- Summary/Abstract:This article analyses language and spiritual characteristics of traditional Bulgarianwishes and blessings. They are bright illustration of national mentality and spirit,of rich and expressive Bulgarian language. These traditional speech models have a formof idiomatic phrases with positive impact. They have been repeated in oral speech andtransfer from one generation to another. In this long way in time some of them havebeen lost and they do not use in present oral communication. Another ones are used byBulgarian speaking people today. The author presents her observations about languageand spiritual characteristics of traditional wishes and blessings, collected by Mariana Dabeva in her book “Wishes and blessings of Bulgarian people” (1937).

- Summary/Abstract:The paper deals with a notion “linguistic taste” treated as a normative characteristic of communication. It is manifested in the behavior of communicative situation participants, in tonality of their interaction and in their adhering to the accepted modesof self-representation and influence. Linguistic taste as a property of participants is expressed both intentionally and non-intentionally in status, role and individual modes oftheir behavior. It determines the tonality of communication in different types of discourse. Nowadays network discourse may be regarded as a dominating factor of formationand development of linguistic taste. It includes elements of self-irony, emphasized expression of positive or implacable attitude to communicative partners, and merging the borders between private and public spheres of communication.

- Page Range:100-112
- No. of Pages:13
- Keywords:categorization; classifiers; numeratives; paired objects; standard and nonstandard measures; collective sets
- Summary/Abstract:In the modern Bulgarian language, a set of numerative classifiers is used, which simultaneously perform two functions: they categorize names according to some physical or functional features of their referents; they serve as intermediaries in counting objects, aggregates or distributed material masses. These are: 1. the numerative classifier чифт ‘pair’ – categorizes two-component objects: два чифта очила ‘two pairs of glasses’; 2. numerative classifiers for categorizing substances according to the physical form in which they are distributed, and for indicating the type of their quantification – standard and non-standard (conventional and unconventional) measures: метър ‘meter’, буца ‘lump’, кофа ‘bucket’, парче ‘piece’, лъжичка ‘spoon’, педя ‘span’, etc.; 3. the numerative classifiers стадо ‘herd’, глутница ‘pack’, ято ‘flock’, рояк ‘swarm’, etc. – categorize animals, birds, fish, reptiles, insects, etc. in standard or conventional aggregates: ято гълъби ‘a flock of pigeons’, две стада овце ‘two flocks of sheep’.

- Author(s):Yurico Kaneko
- Language:English
- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Theoretical Linguistics, Comparative Linguistics
- Page Range:113-126
- No. of Pages:14
- Keywords:numeral classifier; verb classifier; aspect; Japanese; Russian
- Summary/Abstract:This paper explores the traits of noun-verb analogy within aspectual categories in Japanese, a numeral classifier language, and Russian, a grammatical number language. According to the Verb Classifier Hypothesis in Slavic languages, Janda (2022:167) metaphorically characterizes perfective aspect as a “discrete solid object” and imperfective aspect as a “fluid substance”. Building on this framework, I argue that the homogeneous, part-whole structure underlying Japanese nouns – and, by extension, bare verbs – enables multiple aspectual interpretations of a situation, resulting in a broader semantic range than that of Russian imperfective verbs. In contrast, in Russian, the aspectual pairing of imperfective and perfective verbs generates heterogeneity within a situation, a property fundamentally linked to the conceptualization of countable objects.

(To The Question Of Expressing Quantity By Nouns With Defective Paradigm In Russian And Bulgarian)
- Author(s):Encho Tilev
- Language:Bulgarian
- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Theoretical Linguistics, Comparative Linguistics
- Page Range:127-138
- No. of Pages:12
- Keywords:categorial meanings; grammar; quantity; defective paradigm
- Summary/Abstract:In the present study attention is paid both to the categorial meanings of the grammatical category number in nouns with defective paradigm and to the non-categorial meanings which are different from the categorial in their essence and ways of expression. In some types of nouns one can observe semantic transformations in which semantics prevails over grammar. A juxtaposition of language material provides enough reason to argue that in Bulgarian and Russian exist many similar manifestations of categoriality and non-categoriality – in terms of quantity as well as in a more general sense.

- Author(s):Teodora Rabovyanova
- Language:Bulgarian
- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Theoretical Linguistics, Semantics, Pragmatics
- Page Range:139-150
- No. of Pages:12
- Keywords:propositional or non-propositional usage; proposition-drop in Bulgarian; language attitudes towards omitting and adding prepositions
- Summary/Abstract:The article examines the opposite phenomena – omitting and adding prepositions: cases with unnecessary prepositions, constructions with a missing preposition and examples with the wrong prefix. Preposition “in excess” is a pleonasm in speech and therefore, under the influence of economy (especially in colloquial speech), Bulgarians often save the preposition from the adverbial phrases. The absence of a preposition also marks the conversion into an adverb. The use of the “concise” version is still not allowed in official literary communication or is done for the purpose of “compression” in the formal style. Due to their unconventionality, some of the uses become more frequent in the media, bearing the influence of spontaneous conversation.

- Keywords:Russian; case; meaning; cognitive linguistics; construction grammar; political discourse
- Summary/Abstract:Throughout my career, I have taught Russian to American and Norwegian students whose mother tongues are devoid of grammatical case. The students’ reaction to case tends to range from bored annoyance to frustration. Once a student even asked me: But do speakers really use all those cases? (As if I was just making it up in order to torture my students.) I, however, am a grammar nerd, fascinated by the meanings in the grammatical morphemes. The challenge has been to make those meanings accessible and applicable. Here I tell the story of how my work on case semantics helped to inspire three projects: the Strategic Mastery of Russian Tool, the Russian Constructicon, and analysis of president Putin’s speeches.

- Language:Russian
- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Theoretical Linguistics, Comparative Linguistics
- Page Range:171-174
- No. of Pages:4
- Keywords:image; sentence; preposition; ending; spelling
- Summary/Abstract:It is enough to look at the purely grammatical function of prepositions. Like endings, they always modify the base of a word without changing the lexical meaning of words, so it is advisable to assume that prepositions form a new case of a word form, for example, like in Bulgarian, the case is no longer formed due to the ending in them, but due to the predominant grammatical meaning of the preposition (grammeme of the preposition). It cannot be assumed that there are almost no cases in Bulgarian, and viceversa – there are more of them due to the grammatical meaning of the preposition, inflection grammemes (ending grammemes), in Bulgarian the endings disappear.

- Author(s):Federico Piccolo

- Page Range:175-188
- No. of Pages:14
- Keywords:Motion verbs; Typological contrast; Path encoding; Satellite-framed vs. verb-framed structures; Balkan Sprachbund; Bulgarian and Russian
- Summary/Abstract:This study offers a comparative analysis of the system of motion verbs in Bulgarian and Russian, highlighting significant typological differences and potential areal influences. Unlike Russian, which largely follows Talmy’s (1985) satellite-framed model – where the manner of motion is encoded in the verb and the path is expressed through spatial prefixes – Bulgarian adopts a path-focused structure, aligning more closely with a verb-framed pattern typical of Balkan languages. However, it should be noted that Russian, while often conforming to Talmy’s model, does not adhere to it uniformly: there are constructions in which the path is conveyed directly by the verb and others in which the boundary between manner and trajectory becomes less clear. This makes the Russian system more flexible and less rigidly classifiable than other satellite-framed languages such as English or German. In Bulgarian, verbs like izljaza (“to go out”), minavam (“to cross”), or dojda (“to arrive”) encode the path directly, often leaving the manner of motion (e.g.,“to run,” “to fly,” “to sneak”) secondary or implicit. In contrast, Russian favors constructions such as vybežal (“ran out”), where the main verb encodes the manner (bežat’, “torun”) and the prefix vy- specifies the path. Bulgarian’s tendency to fuse path into the verb root – often relying on non-productive prefixes – marks a significant departure from EastSlavic patterns and suggests convergence with other Balkan languages, particularly Greek. This study views such features as a potential instance of Balkan Sprachbund influence, highlighting the role of language contact in reshaping verbal motion systems.

- Author(s):V. A. Plungian
- Language:Russian
- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Theoretical Linguistics, Historical Linguistics
- Page Range:189-197
- No. of Pages:9
- Keywords:Russian; Verbal Derivation; Prefixal Perfective; Distrubutive; Morphological Change
- Summary/Abstract:The article is concerned with the loss of a derivational element. The phenomena of this kind are often difficult to explain: a productive element with a seemingly transparent and highly-demanded meaning disappears without being replacedby any other and without leaving any correlates for a dedicated expression of its meaning. The case in point is the Russian verb razronjat', a prefixal perfective, conveying distributive and multi-object values (though the main dictionaries of the 20th century do not reflect multi-object contexts).

- Author(s):Daiki Horiguchi
- Language:English
- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Theoretical Linguistics, Semantics
- Page Range:198-208
- No. of Pages:11
- Keywords:prefix; multiple prefixation; attenuative semantics
- Summary/Abstract:The paper aims to analyze the prefixal combination припод-, which conveys attenuative semantics as a tertiary or secondary prefixes in Russian multi-prefixed verbs. A total of 103 припод- verbs were identified in the Russian mass media database. The most frequently used verbs are приподзакрыть ‘close (slightly)’ and приподоткрыть ‘open (slightly)’. The paper argues that these two verbs were originally popularized by the 2007 Russian comedy film День выборов ‘Election Day’, and that the prefixal combination has since spread to other verbs, though their distributionis scant and approximately half of them are hapaxes. Припод- verbs, as diminutives, pragmatically express the speaker’s subjective evaluation of a situation.

- Author(s):Mikhail Epstein
- Language:English
- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Theoretical Linguistics, Morphology
- Page Range:209-218
- No. of Pages:19
- Keywords:word creation; morphemic structure; actual analysis; oxymoronyms; “jumping” morphemes; morphopoetics
- Summary/Abstract:This article examines the morphemic structure of the word as an independent literary work that is minimal in scope (consisting of a single lexeme). Morphopoeia is a genre of word creation where morphemes serve as the raw material and individual words are the resulting works. When a word is not reproduced but rather produced in language (what M.Panov calls “linguistic audacity”), it becomes an independent communicative unit and acquires the properties of a sentence – that is, it can undergo functional sentence actual analysis into theme and rheme, with its constituent morphemes playing these roles. The semantic relationships between morphemes within a new word can be antonymous, leading to the creation of oxymoronyms – words consisting of morphemes with opposing meanings (for example, “glocal”). The article also examines the density of morphemic sequences and their quantitative measure – the index of word compactness: the more semantic units that correspond to phonetic units through morphemic compression of the word, the denser and more compact it becomes. The phenomenon of “jumping” morphemes is also analyzed – these are mobile morphological elements capable of moving from one fragment of the lexical system to another. Finally, the article establishes the place of morphopoetics, which studies morphopoeia, within morphemics: the study of word formation mechanisms should include the free, mobile correlation of morphemes in word creation.

- Keywords:press titles blending; tmesis; models
- Summary/Abstract:The article examines 66 blend words used by journalists in the headlines of the online version of the daily newspaper “Kommersant” in editions from 2022 to 2024. The author conducts a typological classification of neolexemes (tmesis andquasi-tmesis words, haplological contaminants, partial and agglutinative blends; examples of single- and multi-slot overlaps are provided), their part-of-speech distribution, as well as structural models of contaminants, illustrated with corresponding examples. Additionally, cases of simultaneous transformation of precedent texts are described, occurring as a result of replacing one of its components with a blend that retains the substituted component within its structure.

- Summary/Abstract:Attribute in agreement, non-agreeing attribute and noun modifier (приложение), if we do not count predication, have the attributive function in relation to nouns in both Russian and Czech sentences. However, in the last two or three decades, construction with non-declined prepositional attribute of the following type “джентльмен клуб”, “SMS zpráva” has been increasingly frequent in both languages. Phrases with non-declined prepositional attribute seem to occur in texts from different spheres of life. Health care is one of them. Research on the above-mentioned phrases from the Health care area in Russian and Czech is described in the text. Particular phrases are reported and explained.

- Keywords:“verb + infinitive”; compound predicate; inserting a word (words) into “verb + infinitive”; polarity; aspect
- Summary/Abstract:Previous studies on the strength of the combinations of verbs and infinitives in Russian have primarily focused on semantic relationships, without relying on criteria based on form. In this paper, we examine the frequency of words occurring between verbs and infinitives in 24 literary works, spanning from the late 18th century to the late 19th century, to elucidate the hierarchy of the strength of verb-infinitive combinations used as compound predicates. Our analysis, which included 4,573 verb infinitive combinations, revealed the following hierarchy of strength: phase verbs and verbs with abstract lexical meanings accompanied by a clearly expressed evaluative connotation > verbs denoting attempts to implement actions, verbs expressing thoughts and desires, and verbs indicating possibility and ability (‘ >’ signifies a stronger connection with infinitives). This hierarchy reflects the restrictive and expansive relationships between verbs and infinitives in their usage distribution.

- Keywords:spoken discourse; German language; syntax; linguistic economy; linguistic redundancy; syncretism; looseness of the sentence structure
- Summary/Abstract:The syntactic features of spoken discourse in general and using the example of the German language are considered. The syntax is determined by the extra linguistic parameters of spoken speech. In German, the syntax of spoken discourse assumes the presence of shorter sentences with loosened structure by moving individual elements out of the frame, omitting structural elements. The special features of the syntax are the use of the principles of linguistic economy, linguistic redundancy, syncretism and looseness of the sentence structure.

- Keywords:spontaneous discourse; Russian National corpus; discourse markers hesitation; pragmaticalization; placeholder
- Summary/Abstract:Unplanned speech is produced in real time and often contains a significant number of fillers, repairs, repetitions, hesitation markers. This paper examines the use of the Russian markers eto (‘this’) and eto samoe (‘this is’) as “filler words” in contexts where speakers encounter trouble in formulating words during spontaneous speech production. We identify instances in which these markers disrupt predicative constructions or interact with verb prefixes. The findings indicate that these placeholde rmarkers can facilitate corrections within the local structure of discourse. Additionally, we explore the combinatorial nature of preparative substitution and their compatibility with other discursive markers.

The dictionary includes Church Slavonic terms and onyms. Some of the lexical units have long existed in the Russian language, while others tend to become passive vocabulary.

- Summary/Abstract:The article gives a brief overview of the current state of development of Russian academic neography and its new format, i.e. the lexicographic Internet resource ‘New in Russian Lexicon’ (neolex.iling.spb.ru). The resource becomes a convenient and promising source for various neological studies. The material for the analysis is verb innovations of the Russian language of the last decade. Traditionally being the least productive part of speech among all innovations, verbs, however, semantically and pragmatically turn out to be very revealing from the point of view of trends in the dynamics of the vocabulary composition. In the media, occasional verbs appear in the context of language game only in relation to the most vivid news hooks. Usual verbs appear in speech at the stage of consolidation of some new phenomenon in mass consciousness and in the linguistic system. At the same time, statistically even more rare prefix verb innovations testify to the complete adaptation of the non-prefix derivational unit and its acceptance in the speech usage.

- Page Range:396-404
- No. of Pages:9
- Keywords:Metaphor; Metaphorical system; Diachronic study; Semantic system; Evolution; Russian Lexis; Macrosystem
- Summary/Abstract:This article examines the notion that a spatial metaphorical system is a comprehensive structure that evolves over time. Metaphors serve not only as an abstract representation of cognitive processes; they are also a universal mechanism for understanding and conceptualizing the world. Moreover, the processes underlying human thinking are primarily metaphorical in nature: “a person's conceptual system is ordered and defined metaphorically.” From this point of view, “metaphors as linguistic expressions become possible precisely because metaphors exist in the human conceptual system” (Lakoff, Johnson 1990: 389, 390). Many individuals contend that metaphors are unnecessary in their lives. Contrarily, we assert that metaphor is intrinsically woven into the fabric of our daily experiences, influencing not only our language but also our thought processes and actions. In essence, the foundational structure of our everyday conceptual framework is metaphorical, significantly shaping the way we think and behave.

- Keywords:success; perception; adult-learning; motivation; andragogy
- Summary/Abstract:This paper examines shifting perceptions of success among Bulgarian digital users from 2015 to 2023 and explores how these views relate to adult learner motivation. Data collection involved a free word association experiment (n = 235) and a questionnaire (n = 1063), both administered via Facebook and LinkedIn. Findings show a move from primarily material or work-centric notions of success in 2015 (e.g., “happiness”, “money”, “work”) to more subjective and relational concepts in 2023 (e.g., “satisfaction,” “family,” “calmness”). This shift aligns with adult learning principles that emphasize learners’ need for immediate relevance, personal growth, and social support. Thestudy concludes that educators and program designers should integrate non-material andcommunal elements – such as emotional well-being and collaborative learning – alongsideindependent skills development to foster lasting motivation in adult learners.

- Summary/Abstract:Female images are among the most frequently used in advertising. Their use and effects have been extensively studied, including scientifically. The image of the grandmother (old woman) still remains outside of active research interest. However, it is curious from the point of view of the aspects that are used to advertise various products and services. The article attempts a general overview of the image of the Bulgarian grandmother created in the advertisement in two directions: the grandmother as a mother of a parent and the grandmother as an elderly woman. The empirical material on which the research is based are Bulgarian television and internet advertisements.

- Keywords:concept “old age”; euphemism; Chinese and Russian culture; national specificity
- Summary/Abstract:The article is devoted to the concept of “old age” in Russian and Chinese languages. In the Chinese worldview, an old person is much regarded, while in the Russian language it is more commonly to come across such representations as worsening of mental and physical abilities, as well as uselessness of senior people. The analysis of euphemisms within the concept “old age” indicates that the Russians are not inclined to tell the truth, especially about such a taboo topic as “old age”. The results of the study allow us to reveal the general and cultural-specific features of an old age verbalisation from the point of view of Russian and Chinese linguacultural.

- Summary/Abstract:This article is devoted to the poetic image of absolute cosmic silence and eternal peace in F. I. Tyutchev's poem There is in the autumn of the original (written on August22, 1857) and possible semantic shifts in translation into the closely related Serbian language. This work has two plans – theoretical and analytical – with a number of applications from the thematic block of F.I.'s poems. Tyutchev on nature, with methodological instructions on the methods and techniques of analyzing the same block using the „structural semiotic“ as one of the complex methods of studying a literary text, with a number of universal phenomena that are observed in the creative act of the formation of an artisticidea (if the idea is understood as ‘the unity of the elements of meaning within a complex sign structure’), namely, the study of a measured „rhythm“ that creates an image of absolute cosmic silence and eternal peace as organic elements subordinate to the task of artistic reflection, since it is the juxtapositions of this image that form the compositional structure of this poem and contribute to the unity of visual and emotional effect.

- Summary/Abstract:The article proves the significance of Turgenev's Stakhov as a literary source for the main characters of Chekhov's story: Grigory Ivanovich, Zinaida Fedorovna and the Unknown Man. In the second part of the story, thanks to the echo of the main character’s statements, united by the word “believe” in its modifications, the leitmotif of the image of the hero-narrator is revealed – faith, which is formed in the narrative thanks to the echo of Pushkin’s poems. In the final chapter of the story, Pushkin's poems, combined with Tyutchev's, give a universal sound to the ending of the story, connecting it with both individual and national destiny.

- Summary/Abstract:The objective of this work is to trace the receptive mechanisms in assimilating Dostoevsky’s work in the Yugoslav film movement the Black Wave during the1960s. The processes in this period’s specific political and socio-cultural context have been taken into consideration – the legislative and ideological actions taken by the authorities in order to ensure control and economic growth, which lead to ambiguous results; the first forms of resistance, shown mainly by the Yugoslav intellectuals; the influence of the international situation on the processes in the country. The analysis is focused on two works of the Yugoslav Black Wave – films The Enemy (1965) by Živojin Pavlović and It Rains in My Village (1968) by Aleksandar Petrović, both of which interpret Dostoevsky’s texts in the poetics of the film movement.

- Summary/Abstract:Mythologization of a real existing image (in this case, the formation of amythological cliché around the name of Josip Broz Tito) is a series of transformations that change the original mythologem. Such a system will preserve and even reproduce elements of the old system, but at the same time will create a new discursive system. Using this thesis, we will consider the image of Tito the leader in the genre of children's rhymes, where one discursive formation of a metaphorical nature is replaced by another, and mythologization occurs around the previously mythologized core.

- Summary/Abstract:The article examines the role of one of the unofficial groups in Moscow in the1960s. The history of the demonstration on the occasion of the anniversary of Mayakovsky's death is examined. The work of the poets of the group was influenced by the aesthetics and ideology of the leftist movements of the beginning of the century, primarily by futurism. Perceiving the Silver Age as an indisputable value, they polemically dialogued with its ideas, truths, heroes and images. But this polemic is reminiscent of high parody.

The stories’ respective protagonists, a member of the pre-revolutionary rural cooperative movement and a civil engineer, are honorable, patriotic professionals whom the Soviet secret police blackmails into collaborating with the regime.

- Summary/Abstract:This text presents only one aspect of the so-called procedure of deutopization of language in Robert Musil’s novel The Man Without Qualities. The thesis here is that the Austrian writer aims to undermine the “tyranny” of language by ironically presenting the interplay between etymological and contemporary meanings, projected onto overvalued concepts, one of which is the concept of genius in this case. From the grotesque clash between the authentic instrumental nature of language and its added ideal value in modern times, the entire ironic universe (simultaneously fascinating and terrifying) of The Man Without Qualities is born.

- Summary/Abstract:Blok's “Strange Woman” has been regarded as one of the most perfect poems in Russian lyric poetry. For a long time, scholars in China have focused on the ideological content of the poem but neglected its artistic connotation. The artistic function of linguistic and rhetorical means and metrical variations in revealing the theme and shaping the characters as well as the structure of the poem is unique in the history of Russian poetry, and at the same time, it is also the most concentrated and typical manifestation of the poem's symbolism and Blok's personalized artistic transcendence of symbolism.

- Summary/Abstract:This study explores ethical concepts in Yury Trifonov’s novellas The Exchange (1969) and Preliminary Conclusions (1970), focusing on moral dilemmas faced by Moscow intellectuals. Using the framework of L. G. Babenko and Ju. V. Kazarin, the analysis identifies key concepts such as conscience, betrayal, hypocrisy, contempt, and shame, which emerge through everyday conflicts and reflective narration. Trifonov avoids direct authorial judgment, allowing ethical meaning to unfold through character experience and reader interpretation. The findings show that ethical choices are shaped by personal values, social pressure, and the desire for comfort, forming a complex conceptual field within the narrative.

- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Translation Studies
- Page Range:837-856
- No. of Pages:20
- Keywords:language of law; legal translation; legal term; Croatian criminal law terms; Russian criminal law terms
- Summary/Abstract:Legal translation has its characteristics: sentence structure, specific vocabulary, lexical models. A legal translation has the legal force of the original, so it is important to translate a certain term correctly. The problem arises because in legislation one term can have several meanings. Legal translation is a complex discipline that includes law and linguistics, therefore legal translation requires the knowledge of legal experts and linguists, as well as practitioners who will establish and explain the translation. In that sense, linguistic expertise is one of the methods of checking the quality of translation. The main problem in the study of the translated text is the evaluation of the translation and, consequently, the understanding of the text as a new work. The author compares Croatian and Russian legal terminology based on legal sources, legal documents: court decisions of various court instances. In the study, the author used different methods: analysis, synthesis, generalization, qualitative and quantitative analysis, special methods such as comparative and lexical-semantic analysis, based on regulatory documents of various branches of law (criminal, procedural, civil procedural) and from Croatian and Russian legal practice. The main method of analysis is the linguistic expertise of the machine translation of the judgement in comparison with the translations in Croatian and Russian languages. The study aims to translate legal terminology and resolve doubts in the conceptual analysis of legal terms. The absence of a definition in legal documents, disregard term limits make it difficult to use the term correctly, which raises doubts about understanding the content of the legal text. A comparative analysis of the legal terminology of related Slavic languages, such as Croatian and Russian, is a necessary tool for reconstructing the process of linguistic formation of laws and regulatory documents of different countries. The analysis allows understanding how similar or different are the terminological systems in a particular branch of Croatian and Russian law, whether the terms are the same or different, and how to adequately translate the legal text and terms, considering the legal technique and different legal systems.

- Keywords:expressive discourse formulas; translation equivalent; pragmatic function; speaker’s intention
- Summary/Abstract:The paper discusses the pragmatic issues of translation of the emotional-evaluative discourse formula Nichego sebe, which is frequently used in Russian dialogue to express surprise. The analysis of published translations of Russian literary texts into Bulgarian shows that three approaches to transferring the meaning of the original speech unit are applied. The most frequent one is the use of a functional analogue – Bulgarian speech formula. Less often, translators resort to constructing a non-fixed utterance or using an interjection. The type of functional equivalent is chosen by the translator considering the specific speaker’s intention, the relevant parameters of the context and the common usage of expressive discourse devices in informal Bulgarian speech.

(Types Of Errors In Training In Translation From Russian Into Bulgarian (Based On Material From Student Translations Of Excerpts From Novels By Darya Dontsova))
- Author(s):Vanya Ivanova
- Language:Bulgarian
- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Translation Studies
- Page Range:975-990
- No. of Pages:16
- Keywords:translation errors; inaccuracy; distortion of meaning; ambiguity; Russian language; Bulgarian language
- Summary/Abstract:The article examines some of the most typical errors made by students when translating a literary text. Two classifications are used as a basis: one analyzes translation errors according to the degree of misinformation they cause, and the other examines the reasons that underlie them. The material for the study is student translations of several novels by Darya Dontsova. A descriptive method based on a comparative analysis of a translation with the original was used. The basis for comparison is the lexical unit (word, phrase) at the lexical and semantic levels. As a result of the study, it was established that the most common errors are of the type of “inaccuracies”and “distortions”, and the reasons for them are the inattentive attitude to the system of meaning and meanings in the source text, misunderstanding of what the author is talking about a given subject, lack of cognitive experience in the field of reality described by the author, and insufficient mastery of the language of the original.

- Keywords:Bulgarian language; translation; popular songs; bilingual education; creative translation practice; language proficiency; Seal of Biliteracy
- Summary/Abstract:This article is about my experience in using translation of popular songs, poems and newspaper articles as an effective method for studying the Bulgarian language in a foreign language environment. By engaging with culturally relevant and emotionally expressive texts, students can develop deeper linguistic competence, improve their understanding of idiomatic expressions, and strengthen their connection to Bulgarian heritage. Translation activities promote active language use, critical thinking, and crosscultural literacy, making them particularly valuable in settings where Bulgarian is not the dominant language. The article also discusses the significance of earning the Seal of Biliteracy, a credential that recognizes high-level proficiency in two or more languages. Obtaining the Seal not only validates the bilingual skills of the students but also enhances their college applications, providing a competitive edge and access to scholarships and academic opportunities. This dual approach–creative translation practice and formal certification offers a powerful framework for maintaining and advancing Bulgarian language proficiency in diverse educational contexts.

Yet, in every person's life, in every child’s life, there are always people who extend a helping hand during difficult moments and guide them to overcome temporary difficulties. And there is always a song – one that makes the day brighter, warmer, more joyful.
