Summary/Abstract: The article examines the peculiarities of the phrase “alen’kij cvetochek” (‘The Scarlet Flower’) in contemporary Russian language. The study is based on searches in the National Corpus of the Russian Language and the Internet. Initially, as the title of Sergey T. Aksakov’s fairy tale about beauty and the beast, the phrase has become a symbol of noble goals, hope and miracles that happen, as well as a tool in advertising. Moreover, it has come to denote sincere and pure-hearted women. It islikely that the animated film based on the fairy tale contributed to the formation of this perception. The article explores the contexts of expression’s usage, and the typical connotations associated with the color and the image of the flower.
