Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the contribution of famous scientists to the study of the theory and practice of lexicography using the material of different languages. Key scientific approaches, methodology and the significance of their development for the modern studies of dictionaries of different types from the standpoint of cognitive science are analyzed. The influence of scientific schools on the training of young specialists and the formation of interdisciplinary approaches in linguistics are noted.
