Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with a notion “linguistic taste” treated as a normative characteristic of communication. It is manifested in the behavior of communicative situation participants, in tonality of their interaction and in their adhering to the accepted modesof self-representation and influence. Linguistic taste as a property of participants is expressed both intentionally and non-intentionally in status, role and individual modes oftheir behavior. It determines the tonality of communication in different types of discourse. Nowadays network discourse may be regarded as a dominating factor of formationand development of linguistic taste. It includes elements of self-irony, emphasized expression of positive or implacable attitude to communicative partners, and merging the borders between private and public spheres of communication.
