Summary/Abstract: The transformation of the Bulgarian traditional costume from everyday clothing into a stage costume is a process linked to changes in lifestyle, modernization, and the need to preserve cultural heritage. With the rise of urban culture and industrialization, the traditional costume gradually lost its practical function in daily life. At the same time, it began to be used as a symbol of national identity in the performing arts – in ensembles, folklore groups, and festive events. This shift transformed not only its function but also the way it is perceived – from a part of daily life to an element of cultural representation and artistic interpretation.
