Summary/Abstract: This study explores ethical concepts in Yury Trifonov’s novellas The Exchange (1969) and Preliminary Conclusions (1970), focusing on moral dilemmas faced by Moscow intellectuals. Using the framework of L. G. Babenko and Ju. V. Kazarin, the analysis identifies key concepts such as conscience, betrayal, hypocrisy, contempt, and shame, which emerge through everyday conflicts and reflective narration. Trifonov avoids direct authorial judgment, allowing ethical meaning to unfold through character experience and reader interpretation. The findings show that ethical choices are shaped by personal values, social pressure, and the desire for comfort, forming a complex conceptual field within the narrative.
