- Summary/Abstract:Starting from the requirements for the lexicographic description of phraseological units, the article examines the inclusion of usage preferences, using gender-based restrictions as an example. These preferences make it possible not only to understand phraseological units but also to use them actively and correctly. In doing so, the article highlights a central aspect of the user-friendliness and reliability of reference works and points to the frequently missing or insufficient marking of such usage preferences.

- Keywords:temporality; german language; linguistic encoding; temporal metaphors; discourse; semiotics; cultural linguistics; time perception
- Summary/Abstract:This study explores temporality in the German language from an integrative perspective that combines semiotic, cultural, and discursive dimensions. Starting from the premise that language does not merely reflect temporal reality but actively constructs it, the paper examines how linguistic structures shape the perception and organization of time. The analysis focuses on the German verbal system, temporal adverbs, lexical units, and idiomatic expressions, highlighting their role in encoding temporal relations such as sequence, duration, and frequency. Particular attention is given to temporal metaphors, which conceptualize time as a measurable and manageable resource, thus influencing cognitive processes and social behavior. The study also investigates the discursive flexibility of the concept of time, emphasizing its semantic richness and pragmatic functions in everyday communication. Furthermore, the research extends to specific domains such as economics, sports, and mobility, where time is institutionalized and strategically managed. Literary representations of temporality in the works of T. Mann, St. Zweig, W. Borchert, and E. M. Remarque illustrate the existential, subjective, and cultural dimensions of time. The findings demonstrate that temporality in German constitutes a multidimensional construct situated at the intersection of language, cognition, and culture, reflecting both the systemic organization of linguistic structures and broader socio-cultural values.

- Keywords:youth slang; youth language; young people's vocabulary; colloquial language; characteristic feature of youth slang
- Summary/Abstract:The language of young people is the driving force behind the development of the foundations of the German language. We understand the term ‘youth language’ to mean a special type of language used by different groups of young people for communication under different social and temporal conditions. The uniqueness of this form of language is based primarily on the peculiarities of the mental and physical development of young people. The vocabulary of colloquial language has gender-specific characteristics that are specific to social and age-related groups of young people. In general, boys use colloquial language more actively in their communication, and the vocabulary of adolescent girls differs from that of the opposite sex. At the same time, there is no significant difference between boys and girls in their passive knowledge of slang vocabulary. Youth language is a special variety of language, characterized by distinctive emotional and humorous expressions. It also represents group identity, as the use of certain expressions helps young people distinguish themselves from the older generation and recognize "their own".

- Summary/Abstract:This paper examines the augmentative function of German compounds based on a selected corpus of texts from the online newspaper Bild.de. The analysis focuses on word-formation strategies and morpho-semantic features of augmentative compounds, which enhance expressiveness in journalistic language by reinforcing, enlarging, or intensifying a property or object. Furthermore, the study highlights the expressive impact of these compounds as stylistic devices used to generate emotionality and attract attention in digital media communication. The results underscore the central role of augmentative compounds as effective instruments of linguistic intensification in online newspapers and contribute to a better understanding of contemporary communication strategies in media linguistics research.

- No. of Pages:7
- Keywords:Thomas Mann's “Buddenbrooks”; incidental detail; detail of decline; phraseological coloring; leitmotif
- Summary/Abstract:This article examines a detail of decline in Thomas Mann's novel Buddenbrooks, namely the phraseological detail "auf den Steinen sitzen" and its variations. The text is analyzed using a structural-semantic method based on the theory of word series, which was proposed by V. Vinogradov and subsequently developed by structuralists. The purpose of this article is to trace the movement of this detail and its variations throughout the novel and gradually reveal its semantics in textual fragments. In doing so, it establishes its connection to the content of the work and gradually "uncovers" various subtextual meanings that have thus far remained unnoticed by scholars of Thomas Mann's work. The analysis shows that the detail “auf den Steinen sitzen” initially appears as a random detail. It then gradually reveals increasingly new meaning at a deep level of fragmentary semantic planes and transforms into an artistic detail. Structurally, it can function not only as a phrase but also as a sentence. It then takes on the meaning of the Buddenbrooks family's decline and, in the end, becomes a leitmotif.

- Keywords:dialogic speaking; interaction; interactionality; interactivity; interactive competence; combination of synchronous and asynchronous tools
- Summary/Abstract:The present article analyzes the paradigm shift from the traditional understanding of dialogic speaking toward the concepts of interaction, interactionality, and interactivity, which view linguistic exchange not in isolation but in its structural, social, and technological dimensions. Furthermore, the article focuses on the investigation of interactive competence, which has gained increasing relevance in foreign language teaching in the context of digital transformation and the growing importance of online learning formats. Particular emphasis is placed on the fact that the purposeful combination of synchronous and asynchronous tools complements each other effectively and contributes significantly to the development of a differentiated interactive competence that proves capable of action in diverse communicative contexts.

- Summary/Abstract:This paper explores the fairy tale The White Snake by the Brothers Grimm from both a literary and a didactic perspective. The main objective of the study is to analyze the symbolic, cultural, and psychological dimensions of the narrative and to highlight its relevance for foreign language teaching. The analysis focuses on key motifs such as the acquisition of knowledge, individuation, the relationship between humans and nature, and moral development, all situated within the broader context of German Romanticism. Particular attention is given to symbolic structures and archetypal patterns that shape the transformation of the protagonist throughout the story. Furthermore, the paper considers the didactic potential of the fairy tale, emphasizing its value in fostering interpretative skills, intercultural awareness, and linguistic creativity in German as a foreign language (DaF) contexts. The findings suggest that fairy tales function not only as literary texts but also as effective pedagogical tools that support cognitive, emotional, and cultural learning processes.

- Summary/Abstract:This article examines George Coşbuc (1866–1918), a pivotal figure in Romanian classical literature, widely acknowledged as the “Poet of the Peasantry” for his nuanced and comprehensive artistic representation of rural life, including its natural rhythms, communal structures, and socio-economic tensions. The study focuses on the transcultural transfer and reception of Coşbuc’s work within the German speaking context, revealing a selective interpretive framework that has shaped his literary image abroad. Particular attention is given to the reinterpretation of his social critique, which has often been instrumentalized by cultural mediators to cast Coşbuc as a precursor of socialist realism. Employing a translation-cultural and reception-historical approach, the article reassesses Coşbuc’s polyvalent thematic range and his function as a literary mediator in Ger-man literary scholarship. A contrastive analysis of selected original poems and their German translations highlights the challenges of preserving prosodic features and culture-specific meanings across linguistic and cultural boundaries.

- Summary/Abstract:This study explores the triangular interaction between students, university professors, and artificial intelligence (AI) in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning environment, focusing on Master’s students training as future translators. The research examines how these students engage with online Breaking news articles, using AI-assisted translation tools alongside teacher guidance. Data were collected through a combination of student translations, AI outputs, teacher feedback, and reflective questionnaires. The analysis investigates patterns in student–AI interaction, teacher mediation, and the collaborative dynamics of this triangular model. Findings indicate that AI serves both as a facilitator of language accuracy and a prompt for critical reflection, while teachers play a pivotal role in guiding students’ autonomous decision-making and refining translation strategies. This study explores how MA translation students interact with AI tools in the context of breaking news translation, how teachers mediate these processes, and how the three agents–human learners, human instructors, and AI technologies–co-construct a new learning ecology. The findings contribute to emerging discussions on AI literacy, translation pedagogy, and the evolving role of educators in AI-rich environments.

- Summary/Abstract:Globalization is actively influencing the vocabulary of Ukrainian-language meat industry terminology, which encompasses terms used to name products, processes, and specialized technological equipment. Foreign-language sources serve as a constant source of expansion for Ukrainian-language specialized terminology, as new terms emerge along with the objects they define. On the one hand, these include innovative technologies and the equipment designed for their implementation, imported from the European Union, the United States, and other developed countries. On the other hand, a large number of new terms are being incorporated into professional meat industry terminology to name a variety of ethnic products from around the world that are in demand among Ukrainian consumers. Ukrainian specialists in meat industry terminology are actively working to resolve these terminology issues. In particular, work has been undertaken to develop terminology requirements for products whose composition combines meat and plant-based raw materials. A pressing issue is the naming of analogous products that are not products of animal slaughter – that is, not meat – but, to varying degrees, imitate its sensorial and technological properties. This includes cultured (artificial) meat, produced by growing tissue from natural meat cells, as well as imitation meat, which is produced using plant-based raw materials (vegetables, legumes, fruits, mushrooms, etc.) and animal-based raw materials (milk, insect biomass, etc.). Important work remains to be done to develop terminology for these products that would be acceptable to both producers and consumers.

- Summary/Abstract:The accurate interpretation of English verb tenses depends not only on grammatical form but also on the context in which these structures occur. This article explores the linguistic, situational, and cultural contexts that influence tense interpretation, drawing on the works of renowned grammarians such as Quirk, Leech, Celce-Murcia, and Halliday. The study also highlights pedagogical implications for EFL learners and provides contextualized examples to illustrate how tense and aspect function dynamically in real communication.

- Keywords:online learning; student engagement; active learning; instructional design; self-efficacy; synchronous instruction
- Summary/Abstract:Encouraging student participation in online teaching and learning has become one of the most consequential pedagogical problems in contemporary higher education, not because the technology has failed, but for the reason the pedagogy surrounding it often is less effective. This article draws on empirical and theoretical sources to examine what actually works. It argues for a particular claim: the instructional approach matters more than the platform; active and collaborative designs consistently outperform passive ones; and engagement cannot be designed into a course without also attending to the psychological resources students bring to it. Experimental evidence from a synchronous online workshop, a systematic review of digital technology and engagement, an inquiry-based study of asynchronous learning, and psychological research on information literacy and self-efficacy all point in the same direction. The article is addressed more to practitioners than to theorists, and it concludes not with a framework but with questions instructors should ask about their own course designs.

- Keywords:translation studies; French literary theory; idéologie et traduction; centre-periphery theory
- Summary/Abstract:This article examines the translation of French humanities and social science texts into Romanian before and after 1990, focusing on the transformation of regimes of intellectual legitimacy. While French theory historically occupied a central position in the Romanian intellectual field, the post-socialist period has witnessed a gradual reconfiguration of translation practices under the combined influence of market logics, academic internationalization, and the growing hegemony of English as a global validation language. The article advances the hypothesis that, in post-1990 Romania, French theorists increasingly circulate only after having been validated through prior English translations, which function as editorial and academic filters. Drawing on a sociological approach to translation and on the centre–periphery framework, the analysis contrasts the ideologically constrained translation regime of the socialist period with the post-1990 dual regime structured by research institutions and the publishing market. Particular attention is paid to the asymmetries between literary and theoretical translation, as well as to the marginal status of translations from Romanian into French. The article concludes by discussing the epistemological consequences of English-mediated circulation for the reception of French theory in semi-peripheral academic spaces.

- Summary/Abstract:When in 1995 Lawrence Venuti first came up with the idea of naturalization/domestication by which he meant that dominant cultures did not need to adapt, through translation, to dominated ones because of the naturalization of meaning; moreover, that conversely, in translation from the dominant language, the foreign element was preserved, which the latter was forced to integrate asymmetrically, his findings gave rise to the theorisation of the cultural periphery through translation, which is still of interest today in the context of Anglo-Saxon ethnocentrism. Translation, especially in the field of literature, is a profoundly asymmetrical and politically submissive. When it brings together areas that are both very distant linguistically and in minority position, the phenomenon is all the subtler as it raises the question of the representation of different types of linguistic periphery translation is called upon to reconcile. Starting from this, by analysing from a stylistic perspective some Romanian collocations and expressions in the Norwegian translation of Tatiana Țîbuleac's debut novel, our study aims to investigate this type of asymmetry from the perspective of dominated cultures without, however, claiming to generalize the conclusions to the entire linguistic area in question.

- Keywords:Corobca Liliana (1975); literary reception; translation studies; german-speaking world; peripheral literatures; migration narratives
- Summary/Abstract:The article examines the reception and translation of Liliana Corobca’s literary works in the German-speaking world, with a particular focus on the novel Der erste Horizont meines Lebens (original title Kinderland). Drawing on literary reviews, interviews, radio features, academic articles, and paratextual materials (publishers’ information, book fairs, and literary programs), the study analyzes how Corobca’s texts are framed in German cultural discourse. The paper argues that translation plays a decisive role not only in linguistic transfer but also in shaping cultural perception: Corobca’s novels are frequently read as sociopolitical testimonies of migration, post-communist transformation, and social vulnerability in the Republic of Moldova. While this reception enhances the visibility of a peripheral literature, it also risks reducing the literary text to a documentary case study. The article highlights the importance of translation, literary mediation, and international book fairs in integrating Eastern European literatures into the German-language literary space.

It traces the path from classical tradition to contemporary postmodernist texts, with particular attention paid to the figure of Mircea Cărtărescu. The collection “Why We Love Women” is analysed as a space for philosophical inquiry, where themes of corporeality and memory raise questions about moral maturity. The work also evaluates the contribution of translator A. Starostina to the perception of Romanian literature in Russia.

- Summary/Abstract:The present study explores the intercultural dimension of translating Liliana Corobca’s works from Romanian into English, carried out by Monica Cure. Corobca’s novels address topics such as communist censorship, totalitarian trauma, deportations and migration from Eastern Europe, which require contextual adaptation for Anglophone readers. The literary translation functions not only as a linguistic transfer, but also as a cultural mediation, which plays a central role in shaping intercultural understanding. Based on interviews with the author and the translator, and reviews from Anglophone literary space, the article highlights the translator’s ability to balance between foreignization and domestication while preserving authorial voice and ensuring the accessibility for English readers. Ultimately, the analysis demonstrates that Cure’s translation functions as a bridge between cultures and it is a pragmatic balance between cultural specificity and target language readability.

- Summary/Abstract:This paper examines the literary profile of Tatiana Ţîbuleac, one of the most prominent voices of contemporary Romanian literature, by analysing her professional evolution, narrative poetics, and international critical reception. Tracing her trajectory from journalism to literary fiction, with particular focus on the novels The Summer When My Mother Had Green Eyes (2016) and The Glass Garden (2018), the study explores how her journalistic background has shaped her literary style, both as a resource and as a constraint. The article investigates the author’s vision of literary creation, her relationship with readers, and her positioning within the contexts of migration and linguistic identity, as well as the role of authenticity and emotional intensity in the construction of narrative discourse. Special attention is devoted to the international reception of The Summer When My Mother Had Green Eyes, translated into numerous languages and widely acclaimed across the European literary space. Drawing on critical reviews from the international press (Spain, France, Germany) and readers’ responses, the analysis highlights the tension between the “devastating lyricism” emphasized by critics and the profound emotional impact reported by the general public. Furthermore, the paper problematizes the representation of themes such as motherhood, trauma, forgiveness, and memory, thereby consolidating the novel’s status as a significant contribution to contemporary European literature.

- Summary/Abstract:The article discusses several aspects related to the reciprocal relationship between language and thought, attempting to illustrate why this relationship is a “burden” for researchers. Taking the belief in the polymorphic nature of human thought as a point of reference, several types of thinking are “documented” (making use of both linguistic and extralinguistic, non-verbal means). The article concludes that, in general, thought presents itself as a symbiosis of diverse types of thinking.

- Keywords:greeting formulas; research instrument; sociolinguistic questionnaire; representative sample
- Summary/Abstract:The article synthesizes studies that analyse greeting formulas in the Romanian language and/or greeting as a fundamental component of Romanian speakers’ communicative behaviour, highlighting the importance of revisiting this topic within an interdisciplinary framework. The sociolinguistic questionnaire is proposed as the main research instrument for examining greeting formulas, with the aim of identifying attitudes, habits, and perceptions related to everyday greetings, as well as the frequency of various greeting forms. The research extends beyond the field of linguistics into sociology and psychology in order to facilitate the collection of greeting formulas and the observation of regional, social, age-related, and gender-based variations in speech. The study is particularly relevant in the context of new generations of digital natives, who are shaping distinct behaviours and perspectives regarding this verbal and/or nonverbal communicative act: greeting.

- Keywords:cognitive metaphor; repeated discourse; temporality; linguistic imaginary; paremio-logical units
- Summary/Abstract:The article examines the way time is humanized in the Romanian imaginary through elements of repeated discourse (proverbs, sayings, and phraseological expressions), which are regarded as privileged archives of collective mentalities. Within a theoretical framework that integrates cognitive linguistics (conceptual metaphor theory) and ethnolinguistics, the study shows that the personification of time is grounded in structural metaphors such as TIME IS SPACE, TIME IS MOTION, TIME IS A RESOURCE, and TIME IS A FORCE, which enable the emergence of the complex metaphor TIME IS A PERSON. An analysis of a corpus of proverbs selected from the Zanne editions of the Dictionary of Romanian Proverbs and Sayings highlights three central avatars of time as an agent: time as healer (the healing and integration of suffering), time as teacher (formation through experience and the sanctioning of delay), and time as judge (the revelation of truth and axiological reordering). The suggested conclusion is that the humanization of time configures a cultural grammar specific to Romanian temporality, thus confirming the thesis of cognitive linguistics regarding the role of metaphors in organizing abstract experience.

- Keywords:pedagogical terminology; evaluation systems; grading systems; Republic of Moldova; Germany; pre-university education; higher education
- Summary/Abstract:This article proposes a comparative analysis of pedagogical and academic terminology used in the Republic of Moldova and Germany, with a focus on structural, functional and semantic similarities as well as differences generated by distinct educational traditions. Based on national and European regulatory framework, including the implementation of the Bologna Process, the study highlights how the terminology reflects the organization of educational systems, institutional practices and dominant pedagogical concepts. Particular attention is given to terminology related to pre-university and higher education, including assessment methods and grading systems, presented in comparative tables. The results demonstrate that, although there is a conceptual convergence at the European level, terminological differences do not represent simple lexical variations, but signal distinct perspectives on the educational process, academic responsibility and performance assessment. The study emphasizes the importance of a correct translation and a precise understanding of pedagogical terminology in the context of academic mobility, recognition of studies and international institutional cooperation.

- No. of Pages:6
- Keywords:somatic phraseological units; romanian language; metaphorization; lower limb; semantics; linguistic expressiveness
- Summary/Abstract:The present study investigates somatic phraseological units in the Romanian language that include lexical elements denoting parts of the lower limb, with particular focus on the lexemes şold (hip), coapsă (thigh), and pulpă (calf). The research is grounded in the assumption that somatic components constitute a central conceptual source in the formation of figurative meanings, reflecting embodied experience and cultural patterns of interpretation. The main objective is to identify and analyze the phraseological potential of these lexemes, with emphasis on their semantic, expressive, and cultural functions. The analysis combines descriptive and interpretative methods, based on data extracted from phraseological dictionaries and literary texts. The findings reveal that, unlike other somatic elements such as „picior” (foot/leg), which display high phraseological productivity, the lexemes „şold”, „coapsă”, and „pulpă” participate only marginally in the formation of stable idiomatic structures. Their semantic development remains predominantly anchored in the concrete, physical domain, with limited extension into abstract, moral, or psychological meanings. This disparity highlights the selective and culturally conditioned nature of linguistic metaphorization, demonstrating that not all body parts contribute equally to the construction of figurative language. Despite their reduced frequency, the analyzed units retain specific semantic and cultural values, reflecting traditional mentalities and modes of conceptualizing human experience. The study contributes to a better understanding of the relationship between language, body, and culture, offering relevant insights for phraseological research, Romanian linguistics, and foreign language didactics.

- Keywords:descriptive textual sequence; portrait; discourse markers; mathetic function; mimetic function; semiosic function; interwar romanian novel
- Summary/Abstract:The descriptive textual sequence of portrait type in the novel În preajma revoluţiei is integrated into the narrative structure as a coherent and hierarchically organized discursive component, fulfilling both characterizing and ideological functions. From the perspective of text linguistics, this sequence corresponds to the subtype of descriptive text embedded within narrative discourse, following the structural model [Narrative sequence [Descriptive sequence] (Adam, 2005). The analysis reveals the presence of specific discourse markers–enumerative, analogical, and reformulative–that support the internal cohesion of the descriptive segment. Functionally, the portrait operates primarily as an introductory and symbolic device, establishing an initial image of the character and attributing to them an ideological or cultural status (J.-M. Adam, 1990). Referential processes are achieved through the interaction between naming, distinctive features, and shared knowledge, highlighting the ideological and aesthetic dimensions of Stere's discourse.

- Keywords:terminology; analytical equivalent of the word; fixed word combinations; phraseological unit; phraseologism; lexicalization
- Summary/Abstract:The article addresses the problem of terminological heterogeneity and conceptual ambiguity in the description of fixed word combinations in Romanian linguistics, with particular emphasis on the notion of the analytical equivalent of the word. The methodological premise of the study is the understanding of a term not as a conventional label, but as a form of existence and a means of shaping a scientific concept. From this perspective, the need for a rigorous, motivated, and systematic approach to terminological choice is substantiated. The paper offers a critical analysis of a wide range of terms used to denote fixed linguistic units (locuţiune, expresie, frazeologism, echivalent analitic, etc.), revealing semantic overlap, inconsistency of usage, and the mixing of different levels of linguistic analysis. It is shown that the term “analytical equivalent of the word” is often employed in an overly broad sense, encompassing heterogeneous phenomena–from phraseological units and periphrases to proverbs and fixed predicative constructions–thus leading to the blurring of conceptual boundaries. Particular attention is paid to the uncritical borrowing of terms from the works of classical scholars and to the tendency to avoid precise terminological qualification of the units under investigation. In conclusion, the article argues for the necessity of systematizing the terminological apparatus and reconsidering the relationship between analytical equivalents of lexemes and phraseological units on the basis of linguistic data and a typological approach.

- Keywords:anatomy of time; temporality; language and culture; metaphor; memory; trace; human experience; semiotics
- Summary/Abstract:Time is part of our everyday life, yet it remains a difficult reality to grasp directly. We cannot see or touch it, but we understand and organize it through language. This article explores how the French language gives shape to time through images drawn from the human body — such as the heart of winter, the breath of an era, or the traces of time. These expressions suggest that time is often perceived as a living organism, with its own rhythm, trajectory, and memory. Drawing on insights from linguistics, semiotics, and philosophy, the study shows that temporality is not merely a chronological measure, but a deeply human experience connected to culture, communication, and collective memory. Time takes form in discourse, in social interactions, and in the values that structure everyday life. In this sense, the “anatomy of time” can be understood as a symbolic way of making an invisible reality meaningful. Language does not simply describe time; it helps shape our experience of it and gives coherence to the way we understand change, continuity, and human existence.
