Summary/Abstract: Starting from the requirements for the lexicographic description of phraseological units, the article examines the inclusion of usage preferences, using gender-based restrictions as an example. These preferences make it possible not only to understand phraseological units but also to use them actively and correctly. In doing so, the article highlights a central aspect of the user-friendliness and reliability of reference works and points to the frequently missing or insufficient marking of such usage preferences.
