Summary/Abstract: The descriptive textual sequence of portrait type in the novel În preajma revoluţiei is integrated into the narrative structure as a coherent and hierarchically organized discursive component, fulfilling both characterizing and ideological functions. From the perspective of text linguistics, this sequence corresponds to the subtype of descriptive text embedded within narrative discourse, following the structural model [Narrative sequence [Descriptive sequence] (Adam, 2005). The analysis reveals the presence of specific discourse markers–enumerative, analogical, and reformulative–that support the internal cohesion of the descriptive segment. Functionally, the portrait operates primarily as an introductory and symbolic device, establishing an initial image of the character and attributing to them an ideological or cultural status (J.-M. Adam, 1990). Referential processes are achieved through the interaction between naming, distinctive features, and shared knowledge, highlighting the ideological and aesthetic dimensions of Stere's discourse.
