- Keywords:bio-based packaging; sustainable logistics; circular economy
- Summary/Abstract:Bio-based packaging is increasingly promoted as part of the EU’s transition toward a circular economy. However, its real environmental impact is shaped not only by the material itself but also by the logistics systems behind it. Recent research highlights that reusable packaging can outperform single-use formats only when return rates and reverse logistics are efficient. At the same time, consumers tend to judge sustainability by visible attributes, often ignoring upstream logistics. This paper examines how packaging material choices influence supply chain efficiency, carbon emissions, and end-of-life outcomes. It analyses EU regulatory frameworks, key lifecycle assessment challenges, and emerging evidence on consumer perceptions and participation in return systems. The findings underline the need for integrated strategies that align consumer perception, packaging innovation, and sustainable logistics infrastructure.

- Page Range:130-140
- No. of Pages:11
- Keywords:sustainable logistics; sustainable logistics practices; sustainable development
- Summary/Abstract:In the context of need for lasting solutions to reduce the negative impact on the environment while maintaining continued economic growth, sustainable logistics can be a key priority for achieving these seemingly contradictory priorities. This paper aims to reveal the leading factors for introducing sustainable logistics practices among commercial and manufacturing enterprises, as well as companies from the logistics sector in Bulgaria. The study analyzes the factors that stimulate or obstruct enterprises from implementing such practices, using an approach that classifies them as external or internal to the organizations. The data used were collected from the three aforementioned types of companies through a questionnaire survey and the research methodology applies descriptive statistics and content analysis. The findings reveal that the strongest motives for implementing sustainable logistics services are compliance with legislative requirements and related tax obligations, along with improving the corporate image. The main barrier to business remains high costs and investments. The study contributes to a better understanding of the incentives and obstacles for Bulgarian enterprises to implement sustainable logistics practices and highlight the need for targeted policies, measures and investments to improve the sustainable indicators and outcomes of companies.

- Summary/Abstract:This study addresses the pressing issue of the US-China trade war's impact on the resilience of European logistics systems. The paper aims to analyze the conflict's effects on the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of EU supply chains. The methodology employs time-series analysis of Eurostat import data for critical goods, an event-based approach, and interpretation of operational logistics indicators. The main results reveal a pattern of „shock → adaptation → recovery“, accompanied by rising costs and persistent delivery time instability, defining a shift towards „costly resilience“. The study identifies key adaptation mechanisms and proposes policy directions focused on supply diversification and resilience enhancement. Research limitations relate to data granularity and the challenge of isolating the trade war's effects from other global factors.
