Summary/Abstract: Supplier selection represents a pivotal activity within the procurement function due to its impact on organizational performance. The strategic importance of selecting suppliers is determined by its influence on both the cost efficiency and quality assurance of the company’s products and services, as well as the level of service that it provides to its customers. The primary objective of this report is to delineate the factors that significantly influence supplier selection decisions among manufacturing and commercial enterprises operating in Bulgaria. These factors are analyzed both for the entire sample population and segmented according to enterprise type, size and ownership, and the significant differences are presented. Furthermore, this study seeks to answer the question if the factors identified as critical to the supplier selection decision-making process are consistent with worldwide observations. A comparative analysis is also conducted between the present findings with the results of prior research, concerning supplier selection criteria used by companies in Bulgaria. The data were collected through a survey questionnaire developed within the framework of a research project (Research Grant No. 18/2023/А) financially supported by the UNWE Research Programme. The project aims to conduct an evaluation of the current state and developmental trajectories of logistics and of supply chain management in Bulgaria. The data analysis is based on the use of multiple methods, including the examination of univariate and bivariate distributions, alongside comparative analyses of mean scores. Based on the assessment of supplier selection, the study proposes a set of guidelines for the rational selection of criteria that are congruent with contemporary requirements and emerging trends in evaluation of potential suppliers.
