Publikácia, ktorú predkladáme verejnosti, je zameraná na procesy adaptácie jednotlivcov a skupín obyvateľov miest v období spoločenskej zmeny, ktorá nastala po roku 1989. Pád komunizmu v Československu bol navonok jednoduchým aktom formálneho vzdania sa moci, ktorým KSČ uznala svoju neschopnosť ďalej viesť túto krajinu. Zmeny, ktoré nasledovali, sa ale dotkli takmer každej stránky každodenného života. Vývoj v nestabilnej a rôznorodej politickej situácii sa premietal do spoločenských vzťahov, reštrukturalizácia vlastníctva mala pre niektorých pozitívne a pre iných negatívne dôsledky, zmeny na pracovnom trhu a v zamestnaneckých vzťahoch oslabili životné istoty a menili pracovné návyky, zdedené zo socializmu. Na Slovensko prišli zahraničné firmy a ich manažéri, globálne overené reklamné spôsoby, tovar z celého sveta, ktorý menil kultúru odievania, bývania, stravovania... Médiá prekročili hranice „socialistického tábora“ a prinášali nové idey, ideály, kultúrne vzory i spôsoby správania. „Svet“ k nám prenikol rôznymi cestami, žijú medzi nami imigranti, ale aj my sme slobodne prekročili hranice, spoznávali jeho mnohoraké podoby a kopírovali skúsenosti. Prestali sme byť izolovanou krajinou. Zakonzervované kultúrne modely rozbila „všemocná ruka trhu“, ktorý sa stal pre mnohých určujúcim kritériom hodnôt. Norma, ktorú naša spoločnosť stavia pred svojich členov, je norma schopnosti a ochoty hrať rolu konzumenta (Bauman 1999: 98). Komercionalizácia a globalizácia sú sprievodnými javmi týchto procesov.

Among Japanese readers both young and old it has enjoyed a timeless popularity, making it, according to Donald Keene, "probably the most widely read novel in modern Japan." The setting is Japan's Deep South, where the author himself spent some time teaching English in a boys' school. Into this conservative world, with its social proprieties and established pecking order, breezes Botchan, down from the big city, with scant respect for either his elders or his noisy young charges; and the result is a chain of collisions large and small. Much of the story seems to occur in summer, against the drone of cicadas, and in many ways this is a summer book light, funny, and never slow-moving. Here, in a lively new translation much better suited to Western tastes than any of its forebears, Botchan's homespun appeal is all the more apparent, and even those who have never been near the sunlit island on which these calamitous episodes take place should find in it uninterrupted entertainment.

Cultural and social diversity in Slovakia iv. social change and adaptation

The publication hereby presented to the public focuses on the processes of adaptation of individuals and groups of urban inhabitants in the period of social changes after 1989. From the outside, the collapse of Communism in Czechoslovakia was a simple act of formal resignation by which the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia admitted its inability to further lead this country. The subsequent changes, however, affected almost all aspects of everyday life. The developments in this unstable and heterogeneous political situation was reflected in social relationships; the restructuring of ownership had positive effects on some people, and negative ones on others; the changes in the labour market and employment weakened the life securities, and changed the work habits inherited from the time of socialism. The period after 1989 was characterised by the arrival of foreign companies and their managers, and proven ways of advertising and goods from all over the world, changing the culture of work, clothing, housing, catering, etc. The mass media crossed the borders of the “socialist camp” and brought new ideas, ideals, cultural models or ways of behaviour. The “global world” penetrated lives of the citizens in many ways. The free market destroyed the long-preserved cultural models and became the determining criterion of values for many. The norm our society places in front of its members is the norm of ability and willingness to play the role of a consumer (Bauman 1999: 98). Commercialisation and globalisation are the accompanying phenomena of these processes.

Dolayısıyla insan ve toplumun geçmiş ve bugün arasında maddi, manevi bağı kaçınılmazdır. Geçmişin yorumu ile günün algılanması, gelecekte olabilecekler, birbiriyle örüntü halindedir. Bu açıdan her millet kendi tarihini ve tarihi çevresini tanımak zorundadır. İlk sıralar tarih öğretimi, hükümdarların kendi idolojilerini halka benimsetme vasıtası olarak, aynı zamanda hükümdar adaylarının da eğitiminde bir disiplin aracı olarak kullanıldı. Daha sonraları klasik dillerin öğretiminde tarihten yararlanıldığı görülmektedir. 16. yüzyıldan itibaren dini metinlerin, tarihsel çerçevede daha iyi kavranabilmesi için tarih çalışmalarının kullanıldığı görülmektedir. Tarih çalışmaları, Descartes ve Bacon’un bilimde metodun altını çizmeleriyle güç buldu. Vico ve Montesquieu ile başlayan ilmi ilerleme tarih felsefesi kuramcılarının çalışmalarına yansıdı ve tarih 19. yüzyıldan itibaren bilim dalları arasında yerini aldı. Türkiye’de modern tarih çalışmalarının temeli, cumhuriyetin ilanından sonra Mustafa Kemal Atatürk tarafından atıldı. Osmanlı Devleti zamanında tarih çalışmaları, ağırlıklı olarak ümmetçi tarih anlayışı doğrultusunda hazırlanmaktaydı. Tanzimat Fermanı’nın ilanıyla birlikte Osmanlı tarihi çalışmalarına, II. Meşrutiyet’in ilanından sonra ulusçu tarih çalışmalarına ağırlık verildiği görülmektedir. Dönemin şartları gereği çalışmalar yeterince bilimsel hazırlanmamıştır. Cumhuriyetin ilanıyla birlikte dil ve tarih çalışmaları ulusal hedefler doğrultusunda hazırlanmıştır. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Türk tarihinin dünya medeniyetine önemli katkısının ve çok eski çağları kapsayan zengin bir geçmişi olduğunun altını çizerek, Türk tarihi ile ilgili yanlış iddiaların ispatlanması açısından objektif ve bilimsel metod uygulanarak, belgelere dayalı ulusal tarih çalışmalarına ağırlık verilmesi gerektiğini her fırsatta belirtmiştir. Cumhuriyetin ilk yılları inkılapların halka benimsetilmesine ağırlık verildiği için tarih çalışmalarına 1928 yılı itibariyle ağırlık verilmiştir. Türk Ocaklarının 6. Kurultayında “Türk Tarih Heyeti ” kurulmuştur. Atatürk’ün de içinde olduğu bu heyet toplamda sekiz toplantı gerçekleştirmiş, Türk Ocaklarının kapatılması üzerine Atatürk’ün yönergesiyle "Türk Tarihi Tetkik Cemiyeti" kurulmuştur.

AGRESIJA NA REPUBLIKU BOSNU I HERCEGOVINU: OPSADA I ODBRANA SARAJEVA – TRI DECENIJE POSLIJE –

Prošlo je trideset godina od početka opsade i odbrane Sarajeva. Sarajevo je, shodno velikosrpskom strategijskom planu, bio epicentar i glavni cilj agresije. Agresija JNA i srpskih oružanih jedinica iz Bosne i Hercegovine i Srbije i Crne Gore na međunarodno priznatu državu Bosnu i Hercegovinu, po svim meritornim analizama, imala je široke razmjere i karakter Blitzkrieg, odnosno karakter brzo izvedene okupacije i opsade, prije svega, velikih gradova kao centara ekonomske, političke, kulturne moći i tradicijskog značaja, te posebice blokade vitalnih komunikacija (cestovnog, željezničkog, vazdušnog, pa i riječnog saobraćaja), a sve s ciljem pripajanja cijele teritorije Bosne i Hercegovine Saveznoj Republici Jugoslaviji, a u kontekstu dogovora između Tuđmana i Miloševića, znatan dio Bosne i Hercegovine bio je namijenjen projekciji „Velike Hrvatske”. Sarajevo je do 6. aprila 1992. godine već bilo potpuno odsječeno. Komunikacijski presječeno. Jedinice JNA i srpske paravojne (četničke) jedinice već su bile na svim bitnim strateškim punktovima u Sarajevu i oko Sarajeva i šire regije; gledano sa striktno vojnog stajališta, planom blokade, opsade i osvajanje Sarajeva bilo je veoma dobro zamišljeno; zaposjednute su sve vitalne tačke: Trebević, Zlatište, Brus, Osmice, Žuč, Hum, Mrkovići, Borije, Špicasta stijena, itd., a koncentrirana vatrena moć je, po izjavama Karadžića, Mladića i Vojislava Šešelja, bila takva da je bila dovoljna po zamišljenim prognozama artiljerijski da napadne Italiju. Pet bivših korpusa JNA, od Riječkog, Zagrebačkog, Užičko-valjevskog i Titogradskog, itd. bilo je koncentrirano i raspoređeno u Bosni i Hercegovini, a od toga glavnina vatrene moći oko Sarajeva. Iza svake od tih strateških zajedničkih tačaka, koje su Sarajevo imale kao na dlanu i koje su ga tako bezočno uništavale i razarale, iza sebe su imale stručno napravljene komunikacijske i fortifikacijske linije, kompletne saobraćajnice, s pozadinskom logistikom, doturom municije, nafte, hrane i svega onoga što je bilo potrebno za uništavanje jednog velikog grada.

Polsko-słoweński dialog międzykulturowy. Slovensko-poljski medkulturni dialog

The volume addresses important issues of Polish-Slovenian intercultural dialogue and its multifaceted nature. It has been divided into five parts, each dealing with a different type of relationship and often deepening and supplementing previous reflection on the subject. Some texts, moreover, uncover areas of Polish-Slovenian dialogue that are still completely unknown. The first part deals with direct Polish-Slovenian contacts, experiences that constitute a biographical feature and are related to various types of wanderings. The authors of the texts collected in the second part present intertextual relations in the sphere of themes and literary structures between Polish and Slovenian writers. In the next part, the authors' attention is focused on literary translations, which are an important manifestation of Polish-Slovenian and Slovenian-Polish intercultural dialogue and are an expression of the need to bring the two cultures closer together and to translate them through the medium of literature. The intercultural dialogue at the level of linguistic structures, content and expression, is described in the articles collected in the next part of the volume. The last part is devoted to the sphere of education, promotion of the language and culture of both countries, cooperation in the field of higher education or selected aspects of language policy in higher education in Poland and Slovenia. The volume Polish-Slovenian Intercultural Dialogue is the outcome of the first exclusively Slovenian academic conference in Poland and in the world devoted to cultural contacts between Poland and Slovenia.

This is a collection of studies trying to reveal various types of crimes and social responses to them, embracing relatively large time framework from medieval times up to our recent history. At the same time it has to be emphasized that analyzed cases and types of crimes do not reflect the most common and the most typical crimes throughout the history. Analyzed topics vary from questions regarding petty and violent crimes up to feuds in pre-modern societies, across problems of dealing with crime in the cities during the modernization processes, up to the perception, definition and usage of crime in turbulent times of defining the socialistic state and later during the Homeland War in Croatia.

Stjepan Tomašević (1461.-1463.) - slom srednjovjekovnoga Bosanskog Kraljevstva - Zbornik radova

On the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the coronation of the last Bosnian king, Stjepan Tomašević, by the papal legates in November 1461 in Jajce, the Croatian Institute of History from Zagreb and the Catholic Faculty of Theology from Sarajevo marked this event in 2011 with a special scientific conference. This event, which soon proved to be a direct prelude to the collapse of the medieval Bosnian Kingdom, was commemorated with the aim of gaining new insights and deepening knowledge about this historiographical topic. Although both Stjepan Tomašević himself and the collapse of the medieval Bosnian Kingdom have been subjects of interest in Croatian, Bosnian-Herzegovinian, and Serbian historiography, as evidenced by numerous previously published works, the mentioned anniversary provided an opportunity for a fresh examination and deepening of understanding of this historical theme. The international scientific conference "Stjepan Tomašević (1461-1463) - The Collapse of the Medieval Bosnian Kingdom," held on November 11th and 12th, 2011 in Jajce, gathered distinguished scholars from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Hungary. Their presentations, collected in this anthology, constitute four comprehensive thematic sections.

Split 1980-ih, društveni sukobi u sutonu samoupravnoga socijalizma

The book portrays the main political, social, and economic events and issues in the city of Split during the last decade of communist rule, from the death of Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito in 1980 to the first multiparty elections held in 1990. It is based on extensive research of various sources, including the press, as well as archival sources, documents from the League of Communists, the State Security Service, and the then-Assembly of the Municipality of Split. The first part depicts the activities of socio-political organizations (such as party and youth organizations), the second part focuses on the economy of Split, the third part addresses specific social problems (housing, economic crime, industrial pollution), and the fourth and final part of the book deals with the regime's attitude toward Croatian nationalism, the Catholic Church, the echoes of Slobodan Milošević's "anti-bureaucratic revolution" in Split, the establishment of new political parties, and the results of the first multiparty elections in Split. The book follows the situation in Split during a decade of pronounced economic, social, and political crisis in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

Some time ago, Dr. sc. Milan Kruhek, a former director and longtime employee of the Croatian Institute of History, turned seventy. With his dedicated scientific work, as well as his many years of leading the Department of Medieval History at the Croatian Institute of History, Dr. sc. Milan Kruhek has gained a reputation, both in Croatia and abroad, as one of the leading experts on Croatian medieval and early modern history. Precisely for this reason, and at the suggestion of the employees of the Department of Medieval History, the director of the Croatian Institute of History, Dr. sc. Jasna Turkalj, decided to honor him with a collection of papers in his honor.
