Summary/Abstract: The central message of Educational Mentoring in the Learning Society is that mentoring is an essential tool for the personal, social, and professional development of professionals, facilitating the transfer of knowledge, experiences, practices, and values in contexts of continuous and transformative learning. In a learning society where information, skills, and learning are strategic resources, educational mentoring provides benefits such as educational and emotional support, as well as professional, personal, and group counseling. These benefits enable effective career management and ensure a balance between professional, personal, and social life. Thus, educational mentoring is a strategic framework for cultivating quality, performance, and excellence, and an important pillar in building a learning-based society.

- Summary/Abstract:Currently, the relevance of education in social contexts has become increasingly significant, as it provides learners with basic skills that will facilitate appropriate career guidance and promote their development as individuals capable of performing tasks that require ingenuity, initiative, and autonomy, ultimately contributing to the development of society. The primary purpose of education is not to train individuals in their natural state, but to develop people who will live and work in accordance with the requirements and values of society. In the current context, school, understood here in a broad sense, has redefined its educational goals, moving from the accumulation of knowledge to the formation of skills, understood as integrated acquisitions. To this end, teachers maintain their role as facilitators of learning, coordinators, and articulators at the level of the instructional-educational process. From a methodological point of view, interactive methods are used in skills training, with priority given to the formative dimension and the development of the personality, capacities, and aptitudes of learners. These methods encourage reflection, questioning, action, experimentation, research, initiative, creativity, and critical thinking.

- Keywords:novice teachers; mentoring; professional development; expectations–realities gap; instructional efficiency;
- Summary/Abstract:At the beginning of their teaching career, teachers are often surprised by the differences they identify between the representations they previously held about the school environment and the realities they encounter in educational institutions. Thus, it is not only the ‘mere’ novelty that the start of a teaching career entails, but also the discrepancies between expectations and realities that highlight the relevance of mentoring for novice teachers, with the aim of increasing the efficiency of their instructional activity. As a complex professional activity, mentoring involves guiding the work and professional development of beginning teachers through the mentor’s exercise, as an experienced practitioner, of a set of professional roles designed to meet their training needs (Bocoș et al., 2021d).

In mentoring, the goal is to transfer knowledge and expertise from a more experienced person to another, less experienced person who is usually in a learning or training process. In coaching, the purpose of the relationship is self‑discovery, in order to perform better in certain work tasks (Viera, 2021).
