Summary/Abstract: The philosopher Michael Polanyi (1966) was the first to analyze and develop the concept of tacit knowledge. According to Polanyi, the first type of knowledge is explicit knowledge. Explicit knowledge consists of personal knowledge that is formally and methodically organized or codified so that it can be efficiently transmitted and used; it is expressed through words, numbers, diagrams, and other symbols.
