- Summary/Abstract:Magic is a synthesis of experiences that encompass in a specific-individual way the perception, knowledge and transformation of personal experience in real and imaginary situations. In childhood, the fusion between the real and imaginary world is filled with bright images, impressive pictures, characteristic movements and sounds, iridescent colors, saturating the child’s need to share what intrigues him. The doll introduces the child into the space of world perception and self-expression elements of the attitude towards life and art. The multifaceted, multi-layered animation of the puppet characters paves a path between reality in its dynamics and the magic of its re-creation. The magical reality is the necessary flight in childhood, and the world of dolls gives wings to this flight. In order for the children to grow up in the atmosphere of creative flight, it is necessary to be introduced to the world of symbolism and allegory, to master the skills to read different positions and, taking them into account, to enter into role-playing communication. Puppet theater reveals a wealth of opportunities for transitions from narration to self-expression in verbal communication. Two important criteria stabilize the child’s behavior – realistic assessment and truthfulness of the experience. This is achieved with age maturation and building competencies achieved in educational interactions, while preserving the originality and uniqueness of each child.

In the European Union (in countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, etc.), there are established programs for sex education. In Bulgaria, however, such education exists only at the high school level and is conducted within just a few classes. In preschool and elementary school, such topics are not addressed at all. Based on the experience accumulated over the years, the aforementioned countries have concluded that alternative teaching methods are necessary for such education. The educational puppet theater is one of these methods, through which this gap in education for young children can be filled.

In this context, a study was conducted with the aim of determining whether educational puppetry, as a pedagogical tool in early foreign language instruction, can enhance the effectiveness of the learning process while simultaneously serving as a stimulus for positive behavior. The research was carried out with a mixed-age group of children in a kindergarten setting, through a series of English language lessons incorporating a puppet characterized by its own specific backstory, frequent absentmindedness, and challenging behavior. The findings indicate that the puppet’s presence in the classroom contributes to rapid progress in foreign language acquisition while at the same time fostering group cohesion and promoting constructive social interaction both within and beyond the classroom environment.
