Summary/Abstract: In the face of rapid changes in modern societies, human and social sciences have to adapt to the new conditions resulting from the growing role of technology in our everyday life. The question “how to define nation” becomes fundamental. The authors of the publication – the second volume of the Pluralités Européennes series – attempt to answer it, analysing, among others, the dynamics of internet populism, new forms of civic engagement, philosophical challenges facing “digital society”, or social dynamics associated with the formation of the image of homo numericus.

- Summary/Abstract:Recent years have been marked by a growth in populist orientation. In this article, we examine the relationship between populism and digital, considering the surprising simultaneity of populist success and the growing importance of digital media. Populism can be understood as an ideology whose structure is more important than its meaning. The main components of populism are empty signifiers that, because they have no content of their own, are continually re-signified with affective/emotional engagement. It is through their elasticity that they can freely associate with each other in structures that can be adapted to diverse environments, transgress domains and geographical limits. Those “wandering” structures are easily transported into the digital world, a world of the free exchange of ideas as well as information bubbles. We analyse digital technology as the tool of populists, as the environment of populisms and finally as an ideological component in itself or as an element of populists’ self-creation. Finally, we examine the complex nature of the relationship between digital technology and populism, in which digital technology can strengthen and weaken populism, serve it and undermine it.

- Summary/Abstract:The place of digital technology at the center of the socio-political debate is very recent, as are the reflections on the social interaction of the different actors of the new emerging intangible space. It is undoubtedly the recent commoditization of digital identity that has revived the controversy over the need to revisit the constructivism of the social system. The process of building a digital people goes through the dynamics of internet users and the communization of digital identities in their adoptive residence which is cyberspace. Henceforth, individuals have internalized digital technology in their interactions and in their social demands. There follows an upheaval of the traditional social order where the protests of the digital people increasingly have real and material impacts on participation and political decisions as well as on representative democracy. This reality should not be overestimated, however, as it is still limited.

- Summary/Abstract:The digital revolution has made communication easier, which was particularly evident during the coronavirus pandemic. But does digital development mean that our society is more accessible? Today, recent technologies are already helping to achieve better communication that overcomes the barriers posed by disabilities. But are we fully exploiting this potential? The main aim of the article is to answer these two questions in three parts. The first one attempts to define the phenomenon of web accessibility. The second one gives an overview of digital tools that can be used to provide greater accessibility of digital communication in social media. Finally, the third part presents the results of a study of social media accessibility in Poland. The research exploits the method of observation and analysis of questionnaires to be filled in by recipients of digital content who are also people with disabilities. Based on the observation and the completed questionnaires, the author tempers the view that the digital society has becomea more accessible society.

- Summary/Abstract:This article presents the communication strategies on Twitter of the former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during his time in prison, between April 2018 and November 2019. During this period, his public speech was limited, so digital social networks were a crucial tool for his position in the political field. The objective of this work is to understand the way that this politician communicates with tweets, more specifically those including the word povo (people). We concluded with our analysis, a rapprochement of his image with that of the people in his publications which is part of a political and electoral purpose. This analysis mobilizes the tools of texts’ statistical analysis as well as the notions of the analysis of digital discourse.

- Summary/Abstract:In this article, we will analyze the phenomenon of marginalization and stigmatization of Roma people in Bulgaria from the perspective of sociolinguistics and the anthropology of language. By studying several online platforms (comments and social media posts), we will observe how so-called “Gypsiness” is not an inherent set of characteristics exclusive to Roma people but rather the result of a discursive process of stigmatization, essentialization, and categorization. Through this process, the Bulgarian “people” is constructed in contrast and opposition. This analysis will thus allow us to challenge the very notion of “people.”

- Keywords:ecological identity; digital technology; ecoactivism; cyberactivism; human-nature dualism
- Summary/Abstract:A holistic relationship with nature encompasses both nature’s potential to nurture us and our ability to cultivate this connection by preserving the environment. However, the Western concept of a human-nature dualism, which posits a separation between humans and nature, remains deeply ingrained in contemporary environmental discourse. This dualistic perception, though often challenged, continues to shape how human-nature relationships are conceptualized, particularly in the face of the digital revolution. This article employs a mixed methodology (quantitative and qualitative) to examine how the human-nature connection and nature-related identity (ecological identity) are influenced by digital technology, generating new dynamics of engagement in environmental conservation. While digital technology may exacerbate the disconnection between humans and their natural environment, they also offer opportunities to strengthen their connection, particularly through immersive virtual nature experiences and online eco-activism initiatives. Thus, developing an ecological identity relies on an integration between humans and their environment – be it natural or technological – transcending the traditional dualism to promote environmental conservation both online and in real life.

- No. of Pages:11
- Keywords:sociolinguistic competence; language didactics; quantitative research approach; qualitative research approach; foreign language learning and teaching; institutional teaching
- Summary/Abstract:The article analyzes numerous ways of measuring sociolinguistic competence in language teaching. The term sociolinguistic competence, due to its multidimensionality, may initially seem too vague to be precisely defined. Initially, the author presents the diversity of terminology from the fields of linguistics and language teaching. Subsequently, the author examines different research approaches and discusses their relevance in the context of institutional learning and teaching of foreign languages. In the conclusion, the author summarizes the challenges and provides recommendations for sociolinguistic research in the digital age.

- Summary/Abstract:Recent works on philosophical anthropology state that the changes related to the popularization of digital technologies have profound impacts on the anthropological self-understanding of the “homo digitalis.” One way of conceptualizing such transformations is considering the emergence of a distinctive digital culture. The educational relevance of taking these differences into consideration is called into attention given the current increasing need for online educational solutions. Research and experience in the field of intercultural education have provided both a warning about the difficulty of education in these settings and workable solutions based on teacher education. A subset of this literature draws upon the philosophical tradition of hermeneutics as sources of inspiration. The exploration of how these different images of the digital human being relate to educational practices can elucidate important concepts, practices and relations, as well as future research on the intersection between the fields of philosophical anthropology, of the philosophy of technology and education.
La digitalisation, nouveau levier de démocratisation des biens culturels et médiatiques ?
La digitalisation, nouveau levier de démocratisation des biens culturels et médiatiques ?

- Author(s):Carlo de Nuzzo
- Language:French
- Subject(s):Cultural history, Sociology
- Page Range:137-145
- No. of Pages:9
- Keywords:digitization; democratization; art; innovation; technology; message; media; cinema
- Summary/Abstract:The democratisation generated by new media has changed the way art is conceived. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok will generate more ideas about art than Domus or Beaux-Arts. The digitalisation of art has transformed museums, artists, the public and the work of art. The style of digitalisation favours the brevity and effectiveness of the message: we notice the emergence of brief contents, hardly longer than slogans, but with a rare communicative effectiveness. No articulated dialectical exercise, but a discourse that moves people and goes beyond the institutional mediation of mainstream cultural institutions. The new artistic media are redefining the arena of debate and the perception of the people in art that newspapers and television previously structured. The technological mutation of languages and aesthetics that we are witnessing today is the most emblematic since the invention of the printing press. The technical innovation that was Gutenberg’s ugly Bible allowed an exponential multiplication of the number of books in circulation, consecrating the victory of the movable type of press over the aesthetic mastery of the handwritten Bible made for Borso d’Este and often considered the most beautiful book in the world. This mechanism of social opening, such as the digitisation of art, is a real lever for the democratisation of cultural and media goods.
L’utilisation de nouvelles technologies dans l’administration de la preuve en procédures pénales
L’utilisation de nouvelles technologies dans l’administration de la preuve en procédures pénales

- Author(s):Katarzyna Stokłosa
- Language:French
- Subject(s):Cultural history, Sociology
- Page Range:148-158
- No. of Pages:11
- Keywords:electronic evidence; criminal procedure; evidence; new technologies; European law; European Commission; European Council
- Summary/Abstract:This article concerns the use of modern technologies in the aspect of evidence and the possibility of implementing the aims of criminal proceedings. Nowadays, the use of new technologies in criminal proceedings facilitates these proceedings, affecting their speed and quality. It makes it possible to hold hearings remotely, which e.g. reduces the procedural costs connected with traveling, and allows the collection of electronic traces of a crime. The status of electronic evidence is still unclear, both in terms of the possibility of recognising its authenticity and the possibility of conducting it in court proceedings. Considering the above doubts, the author will first analyze the status of electronic evidence, particularly the facilitation of cross-border access to electronic evidence, in the light of the guidelines of the European Commission and the European Council. Then the author analyzes the status of electronic evidence in selected European countries and formulates postulates de lege ferenda.

- Language:French
- Subject(s):Cultural history, Sociology
- Page Range:159-175
- No. of Pages:17
- Keywords:blogs; blogosphere; content analysis; digital communication; Mali
- Summary/Abstract:This article explores the socio-demographic characteristics of Malian bloggers and the uses they make of blogs. Many studies have been made on blogs in the United States, Canada, Europe and Arabian countries, but no study has been done to our knowledge on the uses of blogs in Mali and in other French-speaking African countries. This study aims to fill this gap. The data of this research is based on the content analysis of thirty-five Malian individual blogs, the corpus of which was constituted from articles published in November 2020, December 2020 and January 2021. Given that the studies on the blogosphere Malian are exceedingly rare, or even non-existent, this article is principally exploratory. The results of our research show that Malian bloggers are students and young graduates, who use their blogs to express themselves on public affairs (politics, education, human rights, gender-based violence, etc.). Finally, the results show that most bloggers have a limited use of blogging. The average Malian blog posts an article every two months, which falls short of the best practice guidelines that a blog should post as regularly as possible to have an impact.

- Language:French
- Subject(s):Cultural history, Sociology
- Page Range:176-188
- No. of Pages:13
- Keywords:blog; digital identity; entity of the discourse; kaleidoscopic reading; chronicle
- Summary/Abstract:Our research is an integrated part of linguistics, more exactly in discourse analysis (the French school of discourse analysis). We discuss the issue and characteristics of digital discourse in blogs in comparison to non-online texts. We are looking into the identity of the bloggers on the “About us” or “Who we are” pages of a blog. This is always an “entity of the discourse” (Ducrot 1984) different from the empirical being of real life. A new (“kaleidoscopic”) type of reading is present on blogs, encouraged by the digital formats where the bloggers express themselves. The blogger’s discourse is made and employed online solely. The blogger acts mostly as a journalist. The journalistic chronicle is then frequently used. The “model reader” (Eco 1979) influences the way the blogger composes the presentation discourse on the “About” page.
