Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes numerous ways of measuring sociolinguistic competence in language teaching. The term sociolinguistic competence, due to its multidimensionality, may initially seem too vague to be precisely defined. Initially, the author presents the diversity of terminology from the fields of linguistics and language teaching. Subsequently, the author examines different research approaches and discusses their relevance in the context of institutional learning and teaching of foreign languages. In the conclusion, the author summarizes the challenges and provides recommendations for sociolinguistic research in the digital age.
