Summary/Abstract: A holistic relationship with nature encompasses both nature’s potential to nurture us and our ability to cultivate this connection by preserving the environment. However, the Western concept of a human-nature dualism, which posits a separation between humans and nature, remains deeply ingrained in contemporary environmental discourse. This dualistic perception, though often challenged, continues to shape how human-nature relationships are conceptualized, particularly in the face of the digital revolution. This article employs a mixed methodology (quantitative and qualitative) to examine how the human-nature connection and nature-related identity (ecological identity) are influenced by digital technology, generating new dynamics of engagement in environmental conservation. While digital technology may exacerbate the disconnection between humans and their natural environment, they also offer opportunities to strengthen their connection, particularly through immersive virtual nature experiences and online eco-activism initiatives. Thus, developing an ecological identity relies on an integration between humans and their environment – be it natural or technological – transcending the traditional dualism to promote environmental conservation both online and in real life.
