Рефлексивният подход и разбиранията на учениците за естеството на науката в обучението по биология X – XI клас

Author(s): Teodora Kolarova,Ivaylo Lalkov,Mimya Dokova-Koldanova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2020

This study investigated the influence of the explicit reflective-based approach on students’ understandings about the nature of science(NOS) in the context of 10th – 11th grade biology education. An instructional model was proposed on the ground of two major ideas:(1) teaching through explicit references to or discussion of NOS aspects (“tentativeness”, “empirical basis”, “scientific method”, “theories/laws distinctions”, „creativity and imagination”, “socio-cultural influences”, „subjectivity”); (2) encouragement of students’ reflection on their own epistemological beliefs as they participated in resolving and discussing of socio-scientific issues, situated in a learning environment. The study was conducted with 24 high school students, who were taught using the instructional model, based on explicit reflective approach, for a period of 15 academic weeks. “Viewson Nature of Science Questionnaire-Form C”, translated in Bulgarian, and follow-up semi-structured interview were used for identifying students’ target NOS views. The responses to the questions were grouped into three categories, articulated different NOS understandings: positivist, constructivist and intermediate. According to the data, the majority of students (≥ 50%) held positive views of 4 aspects of cientific knowledge (“empirical basis”, “socio-cultural influences”, “subjectivity“ and “theories/laws distinctions”) before the intervention, while only 5 learners had constructivist views on the “tentativeness” and the role of „creativity and imagination” in the science. The results of the whole study indicated that applying an explicit reflective approach significantly reduced students’ positivist understandings and encouraged their change towards intermediate and constructivist views of the nature of science.

Sodium-Potassium Pump and Bioelectrogenesis in Teaching Physiology: Misconceptions and New Didactic Approach

Author(s): Petar Raychev / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2020

Teaching and conceptualizing basic mechanisms underlying generation of resting membrane potential (RMP) is one of the starting and critically important points in all modern physiology courses and textbooks for students of medicine. Mastering concept on RMP and bioelectrogenesis is a basic precondition for students’ introduction into almost all fields of physiology, and particularly in physiology of excitable structures and sensory systems. Sodium-potassium pumps can be regarded as cells’ power plants which generate and maintain RMP. However, it is a strange paradox, taking into account importance of the subject, that one of the most widely-spread and persisting misconception among the students is just about the contribution of electrogenic effect (EE) of sodium-potassium pump (Na+/K+ pump) to the RMP. Fighting such critical misconceptions requires development and practical implementation of effective and specifically addressed didactic solutions in teaching-learning process of physiology. In the present report is proposed a new, compatible with active learning strategies, didactic model. It is based on quantifying specific contribution of electrogenic and non-electrogenic mechanisms of Na+/K+ pump to RMP. Implementation of the model can be done through Goldman-Hodgkin-Katz (GHK) and Mullins-Noda (MN) equations or through equations based on Millman theorem (also known as chord-conductance equations, CC). Newly developed model enables teaching staff to apply active learning strategies in this relatively complicated and abstract but very important part of physiology. Additional advantage of the model is that it allows demonstration, in a relatively simple and intuitive way, compatibility of MN equation with classical pump-leak model and limitations of GHK equation in conceptualizing bioelectrogenic processes in normal cells at steady state.

Водородът – най-екологично чистото гориво

Author(s): Miglena Slavova,Radka Tomova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2020

Hydrogen can be obtained from the electrolysis of water by various renewable energy sources and stored until needed. Obtained from the most common chemical compound, hydrogen is the energy source with the potential to reduce the economy’s dependence on oil. It is the environmentally friendly cleanest fuel because its only oxidation product is water, ie. no harmful products are formed. In the present work is considered the principle of action of so-called fuel cells in which hydrogen is oxidized by oxygen from the air. These are electrochemical cells in which chemical energy is converted into electrical energy. According to the principle of operation the fuel cells are three types: with proton-conducting electrolyte; with electron-conducting electrolyte and with dual membrane. Fuel cells are used in buildings for electricity and heating, as well as for transport. Vehicles with fuel cells are classified as zero emission transportation. The inclusion of the information in the in the course content will enrich students’ knowledge of current environmental trends in greenhouse gas reduction.

Ученето чрез действие – обосновано от теорията на конструктивизма, но трудно приложимо

Author(s): Zlatka Zhelyazkova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2020

The article presents the pedagogical aspects and difficulties of the otherwise well-founded theory of the advantages of active learning in the scientific literature. Stepping on the extensive philosophy of education and the psychology of learning, this theory is widely popularized as a foundation on which modern education should take place. An attempt is made to summarize the main components of learning through action, as well as the difficulties faced by the Bulgarian teacher who seeks to include them in his or her specific work, also taking into account the requirements of the particular Bulgarian school environment at present. The transition to the new system of work calls for working upon personal qualities and demands toward the teacher, as well as for the theoretical and practical preparation of future teachers for their professional activity. The proposed solution to the problem of the difficulty in applying the theory of active learning is sought in the achievements of the world experience of teaching practitioners which could relate to our school reality.

Ojciec Leon Dehon i szkoła świętości

Ojciec Leon Dehon i szkoła świętości

Author(s): Łukasz Grzejda / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2020

Care for the upbringing of youth has always been a key issue. For people to survive in the world, they need to constantly develop. The inclination to invest in oneself coincides at the same time with the commitment in the field of education and upbringing. The inter-generational co-operation creates an adequate potential, which serves the whole society. One of those who devoted themselves to pedagogical activity was Father Leon Dehon. He, due to social and cultural circumstances, as well as motivated to confide in the Heart of Jesus brought forth by his faith, organised an educational apostolate in Saint-Quentin. Considering the difficult times in which he lived, he undertook with courage initiatives that particularly influenced the shaping of new social, cultural and religious order. Thanks to his education and good interpersonal skills he established a school which trained France’s future social elites, as well as gave rise to a new religious congregation, organising mainly priestly formation. The aim of this article is to present a model of Dehonian education, which gave a new impulse to both the ecclesial environment and the working-class society of the 19th-century France. Due to the fruitfulness of his work, which promulgated an ideal of charity and social equality, today we also want to peruse the treasures of Father Dehon’s experiences. An attempt to invoke his thought allows us to rediscover the contemporary demand for education and formation aiming to guide humanity to holiness.

“Judo at School” is an EJU (European Judo Federation) expert educational project where children start between 6 and 8 years of age. The project is suitable for sports facilities in schools without the need for tatami or other specific materials for the development of the program. Judo helps complete personal development. The main aim of this paper is to reveal the psychological-pedagogical prerequisites for forming an active interest in judo activities. As the main method of pedagogical research, we used the survey. 172 children aged 6 to 12 years were interviewed. The results show significantly greater differences between sportsmen and non- sportsmen, with the radically difference in the formation of their interests. Judo as a sport offers exceptional opportunities for creativity, both in the field of high sporting mastership and in the physical education and development of the child's organism and character.

Приобщаващо образование в Узбекистан

Author(s): Evgeny Ivanov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2020

The text focuses on the development of inclusive education in Uzbekistan. Shown are the efforts of the Government of Uzbekistan to turn the inclusive education a part of the State education policy and the support on institutional and legislative level for the inclusion of children and adults with special needs into the society. According to teachers, included in the cited in the manuscript EU initiative, children with mental challenges have troubles with meeting educational standards but they socialise and behave more happily. According to parents of children with SEN, those children who participate in inclusive classes are developing well. Parents whose children have attended special schools before entering the inclusive education process emphasised that their children develop more slowly and inclusive education in their view is more effective compared to the education given at the special schools. When introducing educational projects or programmes of any kind, and for the purpose of ownership, sustainability, effectiveness and impact, it is necessary to cover the Educational Value Chain from beginning to end, with each aspect adding value to the overall outcome. A consequence of the EVC is the fact that the careful implementation of educational projects whereby attitudinal change is required, takes a considerable amount of time, in general four to five years at least.
