Esettanulmány egy spontán iskolai szerveződésről

Author(s): Gábor Vályi / Language(s): Hungarian / Issue: 28/2021

In relation to the school, be it a public or private institution, there is a general idea that suggests that all educational institutions that perform public tasks play an important role in education for democracy (Jakab and Varga 2007). Several literature describing the basics for the practitioners of the profession formulate ethical and aesthetic guidelines, recommendations for heads of institutions, school practices for teachers from this somewhat idealized basic position (Education International 2019, National Environmental Education Strategy 2019). The case study presents, on the one hand, an institution that, with its specific profile, refutes this one-dimensional school concept mentioned above, and on the other hand, provides insight into its internal logic, re-ideologized communication, a problem lasting several years, and student and parent action. The repression that will be explained below and the practitioners in this case can be identified in this case, they will not be abstracted, they will not become faceless in an opaque superstructure. On the contrary, people practice extreme forms of oppression with whom students are forced to come into contact and cooperate on a day-to-day basis during their school years.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of conceptual change learning approach based on conceptual change model over traditional instruction on the improvement of physics education undergraduate students’ conceptual understanding in Newtonian mechanics. A quasi experimental research method with pre-test and post-test control group design was employed. The sample chosen based on purposive technique sampling comprising of 73 students was in two groups selected randomly each as experimental and control group. Predict-Observe-Explain-Apply (POEA) and using Conceptual Change Texts (CCT) strategies were implemented in the experimental group. The Force Concept Inventory (FCI) in Indonesian was used to collect data before and after treatments. The results show that the conceptual understandings of students who were taught using strategies under conceptual change approach was significantly better than those of the traditional approach. The research confirmed that only learning based on conceptual change model could improve learners’ Newtonian mechanics conceptual understanding.

A Lesson in Discrimination. Segregation of Romani Children in Primary Education in Slovakia

Author(s): Author Not Specified / Language(s): English

The European Roma Rights Centre and Amnesty International have been monitoring and researching Romani children’s access to education in Slovakia since 1996 and 2006, respectively. This joint report presents a bleak picture: the piecemeal reforms and periodic declarations of intent by successive governments cannot obscure the fact that the discrimination and segregation of Roma in primary education remains widespread and that the Slovak authorities are fundamentally failing to address them. Under national, European and international law, discrimination in the field of education is prohibited in Slovakia. However, in practice, Slovak authorities have not accompanied the ban on discrimination with concrete measures to address or prevent it. In the longer term, the failure to enforce the prohibition of discrimination in access to education has far-reaching consequences for thousands of Romani children who remain segregated in inferior education that traps them in a cycle of poverty and marginalization. Nominal prohibitions are worth little without concerted, proactive measures to address pervasive prejudice and structural flaws that facilitate discrimination and encourage segregation.

A LOGICAL APPROACH TO MODAL VERBS 5.WOULD

Author(s): Attila Imre / Language(s): English / Issue: 23/2017

The present article aims at a possible logical approach to discussing the modal auxiliary verb would, including its importance in the English verb and tense system. Being one of the central modal verbs, we argue that wouldis the remote pair of will, including temporal, psychological, tentqative and social remoteness, primarily based on the ideas developed by Michael Lewis (1986). Thus we support the idea that the core meaning of would is connected to the concept ofremoteinevitability, which comes to complete Palmer’s distribution of modal verbs, expressing epistemic, deontic and dynamic meanings.Uses of wouldinclude both an auxiliary and various modal meanings, its presentation relying on authoritative sources published for international (English), Hungarian and Romanian students. Possible issues of teaching wouldare also dealt with, supported by data from a popular TV series containing modal verbs. The conclusion discusses the importance and relativity of number of occurrences, trying to offer a possible teaching option for modals stemming from practice.

A LONGITUDINAL TRAJECTORY OF SCIENCE LEARNING MOTIVATION IN KOREAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

A LONGITUDINAL TRAJECTORY OF SCIENCE LEARNING MOTIVATION IN KOREAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Author(s): Sein Shin,Arif Rachmatullah,Minsu Ha,Jun-Ki Lee / Language(s): English / Issue: 4/2018

This research examined longitudinal trajectories of Korean students’ motivation to learn science using group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM). The changes in five motivational constructs were focused in this research: self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, grade motivation, self-determination, and career motivation. In addition, the relationship between academic track of students and each trajectory group was examined. Using Science Motivation Questionnaire II, data from 255 male high school students were collected during five semesters. Longitudinal data were analyzed by GBTM.. Chi-square analysis was also conducted to examine the relationships between academic track and each trajectory. As a result, it was found that students shared the same trajectory patterns in self-efficacy. Otherwise, two distinct trajectory groups (‘high’ and ‘low’) were found in each four constructs. There were significant correlations between academic track and trajectory groups. The findings of this research suggest that Korean science educators need to consider individual student’s longitudinal trajectory of motivation to provide better science teaching and learning.

A Low Vision Student at a Younger School Age in Public School. A Case Study

A Low Vision Student at a Younger School Age in Public School. A Case Study

Author(s): Agnieszka Twaróg-Kanus / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2020

In the case of visual impairment, compensatory activities are focused on early intervention and diagnosis combined with a programme for the development of visual skills, especially in public schools, where importance is attached to educational success and the development of individual personality traits, as well as adapting the support, rehabilitation and education programme to the person with special educational needs. The challenges of cooperation with a visually impaired student are related to the equaling of educational opportunities, combining theoretical content with practical action, searching for programmes, the use of technology and communication (TiK), and working with the child’s resources. Vision impairments affect school difficulties in the cognitive, social, emotional, volitional and physical field. The unadjusted refractive defect (especially hyperopia) and weakened binocular vision contribute to creating an individual model of working with the child with visual impairment. The presented case study shows supporting and therapeutic actions, with emphasis on the use of solution-oriented therapy.

A Matematičko obrazovanje kroz kompetencije za nivo osnovne škole

Author(s): Damir Mušanović / Language(s): Bosnian / Issue: 1/2021

In this paper, the notions of mathematical competencies are updated, which pay attention to numerous conceptual issues of studying mathematics. Competencies make communication, presentation, reasoning, devising strategies using symbols and formulas with mathematical vocabulary. They include the ability to analyze and synthesize along with the ability to apply knowledge in practice. It is important to have a basic general knowledge of the profession imbued with basic practical expertise. Oral and written communication with basic computer skills such as: GeoGebre, Mathematic Wolfram; MatLab, etc., are important for the modern concept of mathematical knowledge. Viewed in that linguistic-competence sense, it would imply four generic competences. Primarily it is the ability to understand oral speech and communicate orally with other people. Further, this would be achieved through understanding and creating written works, as well as oral expression which would influence all actors to properly understand and interpret received message. Here we clearly recognize language competences with the aim of understanding both of oral speech and written content.

A médiaműveltség értelmezési keretei a magyarországi tanárok körében

Author(s): RICHÁRD RAJNAI / Language(s): Hungarian / Issue: 3/2020

In my essay, I will introduce various elements of the media literacy concept of Hungarian teachers through a large samplesize, representative research. Our study focused on the relationship between educational environment and media literacy, competence development as well as the practice of media education. Data collection was carried out at the turn of 2018/2019.Our fi ndings revealed that the teachers’ concept of media literacy already encompasses the same paradigms present inthe scientifi c discourse concerning media literacy. Nevertheless, the multidimensional concept of media literacy misses an exactdefi nition of media literacy applicable for the entire educational policy, which could provide a clear guideline for teachers. Therefore, the understanding of the concept is based mostly on individual impressions and experiences, simultaneouslymirroring the expectations towards teachers as well as refl ections on the challenges emerging from media usage.

A Metagraph Model of Cyber Protection of an Information System

Author(s): Emiliya Koleva,Evgeni Andreev,Mariya Nikolova / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2022

The aim of this article is to present a developed metagraph model which serves to verify the minimum requirements for cyber security in web-based student information management systems. The model presents the correlation between cyber attacks and cyber defense of the system. The protection is based on a created model for cybersecurity 3-12 and is divided into 3 categories – software, server and information system users. The most common 9 cyber attacks on automated information systems have been selected. Twelve countermeasures to these attacks have been selected. The application of the metagraph model is used to check whether the system meets the requirements of the model 3-12. The developed information system has been tested in foreign language training of students at Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy. The developed metagraph model can be applied to other information systems.

A METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH TO THE INVESTIGATION OF LANGUAGE FLEXIBILITY IN PRESCHOOLERS: THE ROLE OF TOYS AND PARENTAL BELIEFS

A METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH TO THE INVESTIGATION OF LANGUAGE FLEXIBILITY IN PRESCHOOLERS: THE ROLE OF TOYS AND PARENTAL BELIEFS

Author(s): Alexandra Marian,Thea Ionescu,Oana Benga / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2021

The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of the toy-type and parental beliefs about play in the development and use of language in a flexible manner by preschool children. Namely, we defined language flexibility as the ability to use multiple labels for the same object, in response to a particular verbal context. Children’s language flexibility was evaluated with a newly-designed task that comprised several story-like situations in which the main character needed the child’s help to solve a problem. The main results failed to prove a statistically significant difference between the two groups of children in the language flexibility task. But the performance on the language flexibility task was positively and significantly associated with some free time activities that children are frequently involved in and with parent’s willingness to let their children play with a toy in a different way than its prescribed mode. In contrast, the frequency and time spent by the child watching TV or playing on the computer was negatively and significantly associated with the performance on the language flexibility task.As a conclusion, we discussed the current results side by side with some proposals regarding both methodological improvements on the current experimental procedure and future research attempts at investigating language development and language flexibility of preschoolers.

A MODEL OF INTEREST IN STEM CAREERS AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Author(s): Lilia Ellany Mohtar,Lilia Halim,Norshariani Abd Rahman,Siti Mistima Maat,Zanaton H. Iksan,Kamisah Osman / Language(s): English / Issue: 3/2019

Studies have shown that various factors (the role of formal education, informal education, and community) contribute to the lack of participation in STEM and STEM careers. This research aimed to understand the multi pathways of factors contributing to the interest in STEM careers (STEM careers in physical sciences and STEM careers in life sciences). This research was a survey research which administered a questionnaire randomly to 1485 secondary school students (14 years of age). Data analysis was based on the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach using Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) to test the hypothesized model. A model containing five constructs, namely environmental factors (learning experiences, media, social influences), self-efficacy in science, technology, engineering and mathematics respectively, perceptions of STEM careers and interest in physical sciences and life sciences STEM careers was proposed in this research. The results show that students’ interest in life sciences based careers is influence by their self-efficacy and perceptions of the career. Meanwhile, students’ interest in physical sciences based careers is influence only by their self-efficacy and not influence by their perceptions of the career. The need to improve students’ self-efficacy through STEM learning experiences is imperative to ensure continued interest in STEM careers.

Author(s): Katarina Diklić / Language(s): English / Issue: 31/2021

The debate on the Strategy of Education in the Republic of Serbia until 2030 (SROVRS 2030), provoked numerous opposing views. The unions raise the issue of finance as a key issue, but also many others. SROVRS was done in difficult times in Serbia. In addition to the pandemic, major problems are: transition, the path to the European Union, the position of education in society and numerous reforms in all segments of society, including education. An important issue is the possibility of predicting events until 2030. time of rapid development of information and communication technologies. The new strategy prescribes, and thus should implement, numerous and major changes. The changes refer to the entire education system of Serbia, which was more focused on the past than the future. They also include primary education as primary and a very important part of that system. This paper will discuss primary education in more detail in the light of the old, but also the new Education Strategy.

A NEW TEACHING METHOD AIMED AT ELIMINATING THE CAUSES OF STUDENTS’ UNSUCCESSFUL ALGORITHMIC PROBLEM SOLVING WITH PARAMETER

A NEW TEACHING METHOD AIMED AT ELIMINATING THE CAUSES OF STUDENTS’ UNSUCCESSFUL ALGORITHMIC PROBLEM SOLVING WITH PARAMETER

Author(s): Dalibor Gonda,Anna Tirpakova / Language(s): English / Issue: 4/2018

The new method of teaching the problems with a parameter was designed based on the identification of the reasons for the low success rate of the kids in solving the problems. In order to identify these causes and to find ways of their elimination, pedagogical research was carried out in two phases at selected universities of Slovakia (126 students) in 2016-2017. In the first stage the validity of the research hypothesis was confirmed, that the cause of the kids´ poor success in solving problems with the parameter is an algorithmic approach to their solution, a misunderstanding of the concept of a parameter and a formal determination of solvability conditions. Based on this, a new method of teaching the tasks with a parameter was developed. Its main idea is focusing on understanding the term parameter and showing its creative use in solving multiple tasks. In the second stage of the research, the success of the new teaching method was also verified experimentally. The results of the experiment confirmed the success of the students in solving the problems with the parameter, confirming that the basis of the success in solving the problems is the understanding of the term parameter and the ability to find their own solution to the task. It has turned out that the transition from the method of solving equations with a parameter by algorithms to the solution method by understanding the basic concepts and possibilities of their use is one of the methods to improve the teaching of mathematics.

A pedagógia elnyomottja

Author(s): Tamás Tóth / Language(s): Hungarian / Issue: 28/2021

The most common way of articulating educational problems and questions is by speaking the language of social sciences, and using the grammar of political logics. What is the proportion of disadvantaged students? Does this and that project for inclusion appear to be effective? Since when has the school been reproducing inequalities? And so on. What I would like to discuss here is that it is possible to talk about education educationally and along educational logics. While the logic of the political refers to the way the social is born, the logic of the educational signifies the way birth becomes social – namely, our collective and political attitude toward the fact that newcomers are constantly coming into our common and old world. I will present four educational logics characteristic of our epoch, which are discussed in depth by the proponents of an experimentative critical pedagogy. They do understand these logics of the educational in a radically different, twisted way if compared to the mainstream educational discourse, thus laying the groundwork for a new kind of radical left-wing pedagogy. In agreement with them, I want to argue here that pedagogy is not the praxis of the future, but of the present, in which it is more important not to know certain things than to want to know everything, because this is how we can break the chains of the prevailing order here and now: by putting gods and masters into brackets, and ignoring the expectations of the society, as well as the hopes of yesterday which constantly defer revolution.

A PERCEPTIONS ASSESSMENT OF PATIENT-ORIENTED PROBLEM-SOLVING TEACHING STRATEGY FOR MEDICAL IMMUNOLOGY COURSE IN CHINESE STUDENTS

Author(s): Xingming Ma,Lifeng Zhang,Jingqiu Wang,Yanping Luo,Yaling Liang,Yufeng Wu / Language(s): English / Issue: 6/2016

This research assessed the perceptions of students to patient-oriented problem-solving (POPS) teaching strategy in a medical immunology course in China. Data were collected from second-year students (N=71; 58% males, 42% females) who were offered lecture-based instruction and POPS teaching strategy during October - November 2015 at Lanzhou University. Afterward, students’ response and capability perception scores to POPS teaching strategy were evaluated using questionnaires. The majority of students (89.02%) favored POPS teaching strategy over traditional lectures. Students responded that POPS improves their intrinsic motivation (91.55%), learning interest (94.37%), self-directed learning skills (92.96%) and feasible for medical education (87.32%). Compared to the traditional lectures, the POPS can improve markedly their learning motivation (p=0.03), clinical reasoning ability (p=0.01), and clinical problem-solving ability (p=0.02). The implementation of POPS in medical courses will help students improving their learning motivation, problem solving abilities, which is feasible for current medical immunology education in China.
