За данните и пътя към големите данни

Author(s): Pavel Azalov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2020

Over the past two decades, data turned into big data. The term big data encompasses the exponential growth of all data but most notably, the semistructured and unstructured types. The speed with which data is generated and amassed necessitates the introduction of new technologies for their collection, transfer, storage and processing. In a chronological fashion, this article begins with the foundational work of database development and progresses through the emergence of big data. Concurrently, the scientists, whose theoretical and practical work underpinned the development of data processing systems, are also discussed. The article provides examples to show the pervasiveness of big data in our daily lives. The key technologies utilized to process big data are described, including the Hadoop ecosystem and the NoSQL type of databases. A strong emphasis is given to the role of data analytics, used to transform the raw data into information, decision-making models and knowledge.

Is Argumentative Driven Inquiry (Adi) the Future of Science Classroom?

Author(s): James Hollenbeck,Michell Evans / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2020

Argumentative Driven Inquiry (ADI) is a type of problem-based learning (PBL) that allows students to explore the scientific world around them. The ADI format allows students to take ownership of their scientific exploration by allowing the students to create their labs. It is believed that by allowing the students to create their method of exploration they will learn the whole process of the scientific method not just replicating a cookie-cutter lab. This research will look deeper into the ADI method and test its effectiveness on high school Biology students in three senior high schools in southern Indiana. Is ADI the future of science classrooms or is the current method of “cookie-cutter” labs better for students?

Ученици и учители: за мотивацията на учениците да учат химия в училище

Author(s): Vesela Todorova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2020

The attitude to a subject and the desire to study depends on a large extent on the students‘ motivation. The characteristics of learning environment, teaching methods and teachers’ attitude towards students in the classroom are among the most studied factors for students’ learning motivation in various subjects. There is relatively little research in the field of science education. The article presents the results of students’ and teachers’ research on influence of the learning environment created by the teacher on students’ motivation to learn chemistry. The research methods are a survey of 440 students and 17 chemistry teachers, and targeted observation of eight teachers in a class. According to the students, the studied aspects of learning environment have an impact on their motivation. The results of surveys and observations in the classroom show that the actions and behavior of teachers affect the motivation of students, but compared to students, teachers often overestimate the impact of the classroom conditions they have created. The study confirms the assumption that the learning environment and the teacher are among the most important factors for increasing chemistry-learning motivation. Another important motivational factor that stimulate chemistry learning is the future career choices young people make.

Practical and theoretical aspects regarding the process of didactics. Subjective evaluation

Author(s): Aurica SOFIAN / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2015

In this paper, we would like to outline the characteristics of the didactic process based on the methods of subjective evaluation. The issue of didactic evaluation is an important approach within the educational process, which must fall within the limits of educational objectivity and responsibility. According to specific literature, the term "evaluation" refers to a series of operations of obtaining information and useful ideas regarding the students’ level of training and understanding, since "to evaluate" is synonymous with "to determine" the effects of an action for them to be evaluated in the light of the objectives pursued. Therefore, this paper will emphasize the theoretical aspects of the didactic process on the one hand and on the other hand the practical aspects of this process, which is thus materialized through subjective evaluation.

Education for Sustainable Development comes to restart and update basic pedagogical concepts for environmental education. It is generally accepted notion and it is a part of international documents and research. The existing other similar concepts just specify it, emphasize its multidimensional, and equally essential aspects. In this article, we discuss three main emphasis – cultural, conceptual and educational. We bring to the fore a synergistic approach to understanding problems and their possible solutions. The pedagogical dimensions of the concept are conceptualized, meaningful and procedural. In our opinion, this is the basis for the successful justification of a specific instructional design in a variety of training events.

The main source regarding the dietary and physical activity behaviours of children and teenagers in our country is represented by the HBSC study (Health behaviour in school-aged children). Quality nutrition is essential for reducing childhood illnesses, promoting optimum health and preventing chronic diseases in the future of the adult. Eating habits are formed in childhood and will last for a lifetime, so it is important to intervene as soon as possible in the community.(Eşi, 2014)

Moreover, speaking many languages improves the efficiency of the cognitive processes and stimulates the memory; the brain becomes more active, thus preventing degradation by permanently searching for the meaning of and the links between words.
