Kalba, religija ir etniškumas mokyklose rusų ir lenkų mokomosiomis kalbomis Lietuvoje: įvairovės (ne)atpažinimo praktikos

Author(s): Kristina Šliavaitė / Language(s): Lithuanian Issue: 2/2021

The paper focuses on the ethnic and religious diversity of school community members at the selected schools and investigates whether and how this diversity is acknowledged and managed in the schooling sector. The paper overviews how research participants perceive the interrelation between language, ethnicity and confession, as well as what ways schools use to deal with religious diversity in their communities. The empirical material comes from qualitative interviews with teachers of religion and members of administration at schools with the Polish and the Russian language of instruction in multi-ethnic urban sites in Lithuania, as well as interviews with members of Catholic or Russian Orthodox communities. The data indicates that school strategies to manage cultural diversity of school community are diverse, but schools where ethnicity and religion are seen as closely related can serve as agents of socialisation into a particular religious or ethnic group and in constructing ethno-confessional identities.

Author(s): Georgi Yakimov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2021

The article aims to explain how teaching History and Civilizations in the 6th grade contributes to the formation of notions of the economic life as well as to the formation of initial economic literacy of the school students. Postmodern Principles in Integrated Teaching of Foreign Languages and Fine Arts to Primary Learners in the New Ukrainian School

Postmodern Principles in Integrated Teaching of Foreign Languages and Fine Arts to Primary Learners in the New Ukrainian School

Author(s): Aryna Frumkina / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2021

The article deals with the issue of integrated teaching of foreign languages and fine arts to primary learners in the New Ukrainian school that seeks to overcome postcolonial and modernist traditions of education and gradually implements postmodern education principles. In this regard, the article highlights the use of such postmodernist trends as simulation, free interpretation, and establishment of personal associative connections in integrated teaching of foreign languages and fine arts. Such a need is based on the hypothesis that primary learners are extremely sensitive to the above-mentioned trends and can enrich their vocabulary via consecutive study-visualization of foreign language words and their denotations. Research methods include theoretical analysis of relevant sources, pedagogical modelling of stages, special methods of integrated teaching of foreign languages and fine arts, prognostic methods. The article presents the step-by-step process of integrated teaching of foreign language and fine arts. It proves that integrative teaching in primary school thematically and methodically coincides with the three-stage process of acquiring the basics of foreign languages and fine arts. Besides, the article contains practical recommendations on the organization of integrated teaching of foreign languages and fine arts. The international relevance of the article lies in projecting the postmodern education principles on didactic realities of developing countries that need to learn the experience of educational transformation based on Ukraine’s example, as well as in implementing these principles in integrated teaching of foreign languages and fine arts.

Rolul Atitudinilor și Reprezentărilor Lingvistice în Elaborarea Politicilor Lingvistice Educaționale

Rolul Atitudinilor și Reprezentărilor Lingvistice în Elaborarea Politicilor Lingvistice Educaționale

Author(s): Angela Soltan / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 1-2/2020

With the advent of languages, speech communities have cultivated evaluating judgments about their usefulness and status. The attitudes and representations associated with the language are explicit or implicit components of the culture and myths of speech communities. Attitudes toward the language varieties are not necessarily perceivable; nevertheless, their impact on language education can translate into a lower motivation in children from families or communities where a different language or a different variety is spoken compared to the instruction language of formal education. The ongoing debate in language education swings between the emphasis on standard language and curriculum regulation and whether or how to build on the diversity of language practices children bring to school. In this paper, we argue that for the teachers educated in the spirit of normative linguistics is essential to enter into a dialog with researchers and policymakers over the repercussions of language attitudes and representations on the language education policy. We draw attention as well to the fact that there is a need for the key actors of the language education to develop and calibrate their awareness of the language attitudes hidden in the institutional mandate of schools and to understand their impact.

Author(s): Yuri Alexandrovich Ilyin / Language(s): Russian Issue: 2/2021

The motive for considering the history of national education of the region is the similarity of processes, their sequence and logic of the development of the phenomena in the education system in the first five years of Soviet power and in the post-Soviet period, in particular at the turn of the XX— XXI centuries. The historical experience of more than 100 years eloquently shows that disregard for the problems of the national education system at all its stages inevitably leads to the degradation of the foundations of citizenship and statehood, releases and stimulates the processes of the threat of loss of the population’s sense of national identity, sense of their homeland and its security, blocks the movement forward. In scientific terms, the problem of the daily life of teachers of the Soviet formation in Ivanovo-Voznesenskaya province during the Civil War and the NEP has not been touched upon by domestic researchers. The initiatives of a number of young researches to address this topic in regional historiography through their dissertation works have not gained support or understanding in scientific circles. Moreover, judging by the dissertations of second decade of the XXI century, there has been lack of scientific interest to the topic. The source base of the publication is the materials of the provincial newspaper “Rabochy Kray” for 1921—1922, the leading print organ of the Upper Volga region. This approach to the source base of the article was carried out by the author deliberately, so as not to be suspected of biased selection and interpretation of the data presented in the work. The subject of the study is to show the general state of the public education system in the region, in particular, the dynamics of the network of educational institutions and its impact on the economic and moral status of the teachers in the city and village. The aim of the study is to give a historical and statistical sketch of the process of the birth of the Soviet labor school and its impact on the social status of the teachers of the city and village during the transition from the Civil War to the NEP. To consider the subject of the study, the traditional methodology of narration and analysis of the factual material is used. It is based on a materialistic understanding of the essence of social phenomena and, in particular, on their most important component — the system of public education. Its basic principles are historicism, consistency and objectivity in showing the historical environment, the specifics and quality of the essence of the subject of research in it. Methods of approach to dealing with problems: descriptive, historical and comparative — allow to stick to historicism in describing the flow of events, to create a background atmosphere of those years; analysis and synthesis of the actual material allow to deepen understanding of the content of the text and bring to the level judgments and generalizations; experimentalstatistical methods group contributes to the analysis of quantitative parameters of the content of the problem) Based on the results of the study, the following conclusions were made. The revolutionary defeat of the basic foundations of the national system of public education in these years was not accompanied by the replacement of analogues that are adequate in scale, effective in results and that could consolidate the civilizational essence of Russian society with their content. The process of formation and functioning of the Soviet education system went through destruction, against the background of which the constructive and deconstructive plans and actions of the authorities led to a crisis of the entire structure of public education and, in particular, to the squalor of the social status of the teacher, educator and educator. The intelligentsia, represented by the teachers, by virtue of its organic connection with the deep strata of the people, sought to overcome the “cultural gap” that had arisen between the proletarian-class attitudes imposed by the authorities and the national needs for education. The teachers in the daily practice of their activities sought to preserve the continuity of communication in the transfer of knowledge and moral principles to the younger generation. The ruling regime initially adopted a cautious, moderately neutral strategy of behavior in relation to teaching, supporting in words, but forgetting about the elementary help for the survival of the structure of public education, its subject, the carrier of knowledge and eternal spiritual values-the teacher. This approach of the authorities, which has become a frozen stereotype for many decades in the field of education, was also pushed by the current political and economic situation, the behavioral model of the ruling regime for survival in these years.

Към нови измерения на екологичното образование в СУ „П. Кр. Яворов“ – първото екоучилище във Варна и региона

Author(s): Margarita Marinova,Bisera Zhelyazkova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 6/2021

Today we all live in an extremely dynamic world which provokes a variety of challenges related not only to health but also to education and social isolation. It appears that many young people are motivated and ambitious to shape their own future gaining experience and confidence during the school years. Many of their ideas have a creative and rational potential which triggers socially useful initiatives and projects on regional, national or international level. Participation in eco projects, volunteering and supporting social causes combines studying and practical activities and, thus, raises the quality of education and breaks its traditional character. And when innovation is also included, the result is predetermined and winning. Using an integrated system for ecological management, “Peyo Yavorov” Secondary School has encouraged students, teachers and parents to participate in eco initiatives for more than 20 years. This enriches their knowledge and improves the environment. Focusing on the ecological education ensures better understanding of the environmental problems with their local and global impact. Different approaches are used for developing key competences which creates later an active, healthy and environmental-friendly behavior. Activities in the eco field have proved to be effective as means of raising sensitivity and responsibility aiming at the change of one’s attitude – towards themselves, the others and the environment.

Author(s): Rozalina Dimitrova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 6/2021

In modern school, when learning a foreign language, an approach which is used more and more often is students work in small groups. If we estimate the efforts which students put in working in a group in order to achieve a common result, then all the students’ motivation is considerably higher. Working in small groups during Russian language classes creates a very good opportunity for communication, enables the development of students’ speaking ability which is very important in learning foreign language. Working in small groups develops students’ communication skills, creates their personal qualities, helps them realize their social role in society. The teacher’s role changes, too. The teacher only directs the work, partly helps, corrects and supports the creative searching.

STO TRIDESETA GODIŠNJICA GRAMATIKE BOSANSKOGA JEZIKA

Author(s): Muhamed Šator / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 17/2020

On the Sound, Produced by a Coin, Rolling in a Balloon

Author(s): Denitsa Vasileva / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2021

Balloons may be a thing children love playing with, but they also have different interesting physical properties such as the sound that is produced when something is put inside a balloon. The phenomenon of interest of this article is the one of gently rolling a coin in a balloon and exploration of the sound produced by this movement. It turns out that when a coin with edges is put in a balloon and is being rolled a buzzing sound is produced which varies in frequencies depending on the count of edges of the coin. This can be observed in non-laboratory conditions. Not many experiments have been conducted to explore this phenomenon.

Chemistry is often considered a difficult subject, and the way students perceive learning affects their achievements. The research aims to identify: the topics in the secondary Chemistry curriculum perceived as difficult and as interesting by the Bulgarian students, the reasons for students’ difficulties and ways to overcome it. An inquiry was conducted with 321 students aged 16 – 17 years. According to them, the most difficult topics are Organic Chemistry and Chemical calculations (abstract and requiring specific skills). The most interesting topics are Organic Chemistry and Theory of Electrolytic Dissociation. Acids and bases. There is no significant correlation between levels of perceived difficulty and interest. Students relate difficulties to: information overload, emphasis on memorization, and lack of connections to everyday life. More lab activities and the practical application of the knowledge are recommended. Our research results can help improve Chemistry curricula and teaching practice.

A Possible Contribution of Live Electronics to Modern Education / O posibilă contribuție a aplicațiilor electronice live la educația modernă

Author(s): Mihai Popean / Language(s): English,Romanian Issue: 1/2021

Musical improvisation is as much a form of art as it is a form of education with great potential for transfer. Although associated usually with jazz music, improvisation has a long and unbroken history that can be traced throughout the entire music history. The classically-trained students do not receive education in improvisation, it is not part of the classical music curriculum, the educators themselves do not have such training and are not comfortable improvising and therefore teaching it. However, students can greatly benefit from this type of training by greatly enhancing their technique and performing skills and also by developing a set of other important skills such as creativity, calculated risk-taking, flexibility of mind, capacity to notice opportunities, greater awareness of their environment, intra- and interpersonal skills, enhanced communication abilities and more. One solution that would address teachers’ lack of improvisational skills and students’ need for such educational opportunity is for educators to learn basic visual programming in order to create applications for improvisation that involve live electronics and deploy them in classroom or other educational situations.

Peculiarities of Online Lessons in Music and Movement Classes (I) / Particularități ale lecțiilor on-line la disciplina Muzică și mișcare (I)

Author(s): Lucian Ghişa,Dalia Ioana Ghisa / Language(s): English,Romanian Issue: 2/2021

The present research aims to contribute to the optimization of online teaching regarding the Music and Movement subject. The Music and Movement class activities are aimed to facilitate the acquisition of important general skills, such as: learning children’s songs and simple elements of musical language, performing children’s songs, with age-specific means and in order to express ideas, feelings and experiences through music and movement, individually or in groups. We highlighted in this research the provisions of the curriculum, insisting on the competences that need to be acquired. In this regard, the curriculum expresses a series of contents with specific activities, which can be approached in the classroom according to each level of learning. The skills that students have to acquire in the Music and Movement class formed the basis of the concerns which emerged due to the pandemic situation (isolation at home), because at first the resources available were not known, as neither were the methods and means by which to achieve them, taking into account the fact that the transition from traditional classes to those in the online environment was sudden.
