Немирство, умиротворение и смирение в детската поезия на Дора

Author(s): Ognyana Georgieva-Teneva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2019

From the comprehensive works of Dora Gabe for children, the study abstracts a poetic paradigm: mischievousness – appeasement – humbleness. This is not an obvious, unconditional analytical approach but is one of the possible approaches which has chosen to focus on the images of the child’s soul. The study aims to defend the thesis that in the poetic mind of Dora Gabe the child has an optimistic view of life and that the child is constructive because he/she knows the pleasure of freedom.

COUNTERACTING OF EDUCATIONAL INEQUALITIES THROUGH THE DIGITIZATION OF EDUCATION: AN ANALYSIS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE THEORY OF SYMBOLIC VIOLENCE

Author(s): Elena Bujorean / Language(s): English Issue: 16/2021

The present paper uses the concept of “symbolic violence” to explain the causes of certain educational inequalities, including limited access to some resources, including technology. The reference to P. Bourdieu’s theory regarding symbolic violence is the theoretical framework adopted by us in order to question the principle of equity in formal education. Up to Bourdieu, the school was recognized as an institution of the reproduction of theoretical and practical knowledge. The French sociologist’s merit lies in that he proved its role in the production/reproduction of class relations, of society in its essence. By revealing a series of mechanisms of social and cultural reproduction through formal education, the French sociologist, together with J. Passeron, clarified symbolic violence as a form of gentle, invisible violence, not acknowledged as such. They explain the inequalities of the academic success by cultural and motivational factors: the inequalities appear due to the fact that formal education applies the same treatment to the pupils who are not equally armed with the elements of school culture. Symbolic violence can take the form of denying access to resources or limiting the realistic aspirations of young people. Thus, e-learning platforms that require high-speed internet provide important materials and learning experiences to which not all students have access. On the other hand, conservatives believe that too much emphasis is placed on these technological changes, to the detriment of other curricular innovations. The paper presents not only the impact of the theory put forward by the French sociologists in their analysis of school practices characterized by exclusion, marginalisation, inequity, but also the optimizing perspective introduced by Bourdieu. It is a good idea to bring again to the attention of practitioners, researchers and decision-makers in the field of education, the problems of the reproduction in the academic area of some social and cultural inequalities; in this way, interest can be raised in assessing the impact of the educational policies destined to increasing equity in the field of education.

Достоевский и античность: классическое образование в пансионе Л. И. Чермака

Author(s): Ekaterina Leonidovna Smirnova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 2/2021

The article attempts to identify the classical linguistic and cultural context of F. M. Dostoevsky’s education at the L. I. Chermak boarding school. It lists the programs and textbooks that Dostoevsky studied in 1834‒1837 to learn about the intricacies of classical languages and ancient history, and the teachers who may have influenced his perception of ancient history and culture. Using the issues of the “Biblioteka dlya chteniya” (Library for Reading) journal, the authors investigate which texts related to classical antiquity were available to Dostoevsky outside of the curriculum. The period of Dostoevsky’s studies at the Chermak boarding school can be characterized as extremely favorable for the assimilation and comprehension of ancient heritage. The reason for this is the emphasis on classical languages in education set by government decisions, successfully augmented by the brilliant teaching staff at the boarding school, i. e., K. M. Romanovsky, N. I. Bilevich and A. M. Kubarev, Dostoevsky saw Greco-Roman antiquity not as a boring and tiresome collection of dead forms, but as a source of fantasies, reflections, comparisons, and sublime ideas. The publications in Library for Reading on history and archeology, literature and art of Ancient Greece and Rome revealed antiquity in a multi-faceted manner, taking the teenager inclined to serious reading far beyond the school curriculum into the world of stunning discoveries, sharp scientific controversy, bold comparisons with modern times and vivid artistic images.

FROM TEACHING BUILT ON UNDERSTANDING TO TEACHING FOR UNDERSTANDING

Author(s): Daniela Jeder / Language(s): English Issue: 16/2021

This paper suggests an analysis of a core element of the lucid, responsible, consistent didactic act, which rigorously follows its meaning -the process of understanding: on the one hand, we draw attention to the arguments of the need for teaching based on understanding (see also the influences of the perceived curriculum), understood as a teaching that is built on the clarity that the teacher has and develops on the complex processes that this activity implies, as well as on the ways to influence learning (see the implications of teaching ethics); on the other hand, the paper emphasizes the process of understanding as a meaning of teaching what the literature calls teaching for understanding -with the role of supporting the understanding of what students learn.

Evenimentele din 1992 în manualul de istorie din școlile transnistrene

Evenimentele din 1992 în manualul de istorie din școlile transnistrene

Author(s): Sergiu Musteață / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 2/2021

After the 1991 separatist region of Transnistria developed its own education system, provided with normative acts, including curriculum and textbooks. History education is part of the official discourse and focuses on Transnistrian interests. In many cases, textbooks are based on Soviet historiography, and western neighbors are treated as enemies. The author of the present article analyzes, in particular, Chapter IX of the textbook for the ninth grade, which deals with the formation of the separatist republic and the Dniester War of1992, which is described by the authors of the textbook as “Moldova’s military aggression against the Transnistrian people.” The facts presented in this textbook are unilateral, trying to demonstrate the “aggression of Moldova” on the districts on the left bank of the Dniester. Although, at the end of the topic, the authors consider that this military conflict was “a bloody war”, they insist more on the “sufferings, losses and victims” of the inhabitants of this region. There is a total lack of critical, comparative, and balanced approach to these sensitive events for the recent history of the Republic of Moldova.

Innovative Proposals for Database Storage and Management

Author(s): Yulian Petkov,Alexandre Chikalanov / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2022

At present, the problem of storing large data sets as a source of artificial intelligence acquires a geopolitical and strategic character. The most well-known and used type of databases so far are the relational (SQL databases) and nonrelational (NoSQL databases. The both approaches have some principle problems, which are described below. That publication presents two original approaches to overcoming some of these shortcomings. First one is Object-oriented model for storing data in a relational database. The second is Storage of non-relational data in a relational database according to previously freely created by the user models. Presented models were used as base for software development of more than ten middle and large size national and European scientific and industrial projects.

Distance learning: Homemade colloidal silver

Author(s): Jorge G. Ibanez,Ana Sofia Covarrubias-Montero / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2022

To continue the experimental education of Chemical Engineering students during the SARS-Covid 19 pandemic, our school opted for assembling laboratory kits for each one of them and sending them by courier service to their homes. This arose much interest and was particularly successful in an Electrochemistry and Corrosion elective course, because up to 25 experiments were performed in each of the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters. By having their kits at home, students were also able to design experiments on their own. One such experiment –the preparation of a colloidal silver solution– only required readily available kit materials and some other home and kitchen items to produce an easily observable Ag colloidal solution. Lower classes (e.g., General Chemistry, High School Chemistry) should be able to reproduce this experiment as well. The entire procedure can be completed in 1 h.
