Czech Technical Screenplay 1945-1962

Český technický scénář 1945-1962

Author(s): Jan Černík / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: technical screenplays; film; aftewar period; 1945-1962

The topic of the book are Czech technical screenplays between 1945 and 1962. The nationalization of the Czechoslovak film industry in 1945 affected production in many ways. Ideologically suitable films and economical efficiency of production were common goals. The USSR film industry became a dominant inspiration. For example, literary and technical screenplay was established according to soviet manuals. The transfer of soviet experience encountered with Czechoslovak tradition. It resulted in unsuccessfull attempts in the implementations of the new practice. In three chapters I explore 1) screenwriting manuals, 2) changes of formal structure of TS, 3) the development of approval process. I combine metodological frameworks of production studies and screenwriting studies to explore history of technical screenplays.

News about Them or Us

Zprávy o Nich nebo o Nás

Author(s): Renáta Sedláková / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: Roma; majority; minority; media; Czech Television

What would we know about the Roma if we knew them only from news of the public service media -Czech television? The book provides findings from quantitative content analysis, discursive and semiotic analysis of the main news program Události. The study is based on the assumption that media representation of "the others" also tells about the majority's ideas of itself. The author points to key features that contribute to the representation of Roma as culturally different. She illustrates that mainstream television news is ethnocentric and mainly reports on the actions of majority members, even in news that verbally or visually refers to the Romani minority. Such an approach attributes Romani's passive position as recipients of social assistance or objects of political measures by the majority. The optics of the minority is omitted in the programme, and Romani represented in positions of authority are an exception in the reports. The construction of the news as stories about "Us" and "Them" confirms the symbolic otherness of both ethnic groups. Repeatedly used visual footage triggers negative connotations and circulates stereotypes long present in the Czech majority mainstream culture. However, the news media are key agents in the social construction of reality and can contribute not only to inclusion but also to social exclusion and discrimination against members of social groups.

Týn Church and architecture of the Poděbrady period

Týnský kostel a architektura poděbradské doby

Author(s): Jana Pařízková Čevonová / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: Catholic churches; history; gothic architecture; artistic decoration; medieval art; architectural monuments

"The Church of Our Lady before Týn, since the 14th century the main parish church of the Old Town, after the Hussite Wars the main church of the Utraquist Church in Bohemia and Moravia and an unmissable dominant feature of the historical centre of Prague, is the second most important medieval sacral building in Prague after St. In syntheses of the history of Czech Gothic architecture, it is often ranked at the forefront of the development of the architecture of the Luxemburg period, and at the same time the completion of the church after the Hussite Revolution is mostly presented as the most important building of the time of George of Poděbrady. On closer inspection, however, the ideas of many authors regarding the identification of the pre-Hussite and post-Hussite parts of the church differ fundamentally, which raises important questions for the understanding of the architecture of the Poděbrady period. The present book on the Late Gothic completion of the Old Town Church of Our Lady of before Týn attempts to contribute at least partially to a more detailed treatment of the architecture of the Poděbrady period, which summarises many years of research on the building."

Selected aspects of the formation of professional beliefs of beginning teachers

Vybrané aspekty formování profesního přesvědčení začínajících učitelů

Author(s): Jaroslava Ševčíková,Jitka Plischke,Štefan Chudý / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: beginning teachers; teaching profession; career development; career choice; job satisfaction

Proffesional beliefs of beginning teachers, which is the main topic of the monograph entitled Selected aspects of formation of the professional beliefs of beginning teachers, is a multidisciplinary phenomenon, which is not yet clearly established in professional pedagogical terminology. The aim of this work is to anchor the concept in Czech professional terminology and to construct a new theory of the interrelationships of the formation of professional beliefs based on self-reflection of beginning teacher, in connetion with his perception of satisfaction in the profession. Research in qualitative design was carried out in several research lines, namely in the life story, and then in the line leading to grounded theory. Finally, the results of both lines were repeatedly analyzed and compared. Data were obtained mainly by the method of autonomous writing on a given problem, in-depth interviews and group discussion in focus groups. It was found that professional belief is a phenomenon that is reflected in practice, is multifactorial and represented by the teacher's faith in the profession, and the belief that he succeeds in the profession. It is formed before starting practice as a positive phenomenon, in two dimensions, stable and episodic. If the teacher has a stron positive professional belief at the time of entering practice, he shows higher self-confidence and self-assurance and declares individual satisfaction in the profession.

From a mysterious text from the 15th century through authorship attribution in internet communication to the analysis of prefixes in forensic linguistics. The first part discusses the methods used to determine the origin of the Voynich Manuscript – a mysterious text written in an unknown script. The second part seeks to say whether it is possible to distinguish the authors of comments from news servers, using methods that enumerate selected linguistic features. The third part also falls into the field of forensic linguistics – it examines the possibility of using the frequency of prefixes to differentiate text writers.

Syncretism of sentence elements in Russian and Czech

Synkretizmus větných členů v ruštině a češtině

Author(s): Václav Slovák / Language(s): Russian,Czech

Keywords: Czech language; Russian language;clause complements;syncretism (linguistics)

The description of the system of the parts of a sentence in Russian and Czech is one of the topical question in contemporary linguistics. In contemporary grammar books, the interpretation of the parts of a sentence is focused mainly on typical phenomena. Peripheral phenomena are often mentioned marginally; similar phenomena are understood differently in various publications. Sometimes, the fluency of transitions between individual parts of a sentence is being emphasized. In our research, we are focused on description of these peripheral phenomena in the system of the parts of a sentence, which represent one of the examples of linguistic syncretism. The term syncretism is defined in the book and various approaches of linguists to phenomena that we perceive as syncretic are presented.

The book characterises the main pillars of methodological paradigm of research focused on the area of human movement-related behaviour. Currently used methodological approaches are described in detail. Simultaneously, their limits are introduced, from which the key methodological challenges are critically derived. The aim of the author was to put partial aspects of methodological paradigm in a broader context and to allow the reader to obtain the comprehensive view of the problems associated with the investigation of human movement-related behaviour. The reader should understand more the essence of research in the field as a whole and thus improve his competence to interpret the conclusions of relevant studies.
