Author(s): Annegret Bergmann,Pia Eskelinen,Letizia Guarini,Noriko Hiraishi,Kamila Hladíková,Fumi Inoue,Bhavana Kumari,Martin Lavička,Madhu Madhu,Rafael Vinícius Martins,Nikolaos Mavropoulos,Robert Ono,Silvia Picchiarelli,André Pinto Teixeira,Martina R. Prosperi,Rune Steenberg,Freya Terryn,Robert Tsaturyan,Jessica Uldry,Halina Zawiszová / Language(s): English

Keywords: Asia; China; Japan; India; Taiwan

This volume consists of 19 chapters that reflect the titular theme - Voiced and Voiceless in Asia - from a variety of angles, making use of diverse scholarly approaches and disciplines, while focusing specifically on China, India, Japan, and Taiwan. The chapters are broadly divided into two parts: (1) Politics and Society, and (2) Arts and Literature, although the texts included in the second part also deal with social themes. In addition to historical topics, such as Japanese colonialism or Chinese agricultural reforms in the 1950s, the volume also addresses current issues, including restrictive Chinese policies in Xinjiang, Japanese activist movements against gender-based violence and discrimination, or the problems of migrant laborers in India and performing arts in Japan during the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, it provides insight into satirical woodblock prints from the Boshin War period or works of literature produced in Japanese leprosariums in the first half of the 20th century, as well as into selected topics in contemporary Chinese, Japanese, and Sinophone Tibetan literature. Collectively, the chapters comprised in this volume narrate the multifaceted relationship between 'voice' and 'power,' thus highlighting the fact that the question of 'voice' is closely intertwined with a variety of social, political, and cultural issues.

Self-regulation in the context of risk behaviour during adolescence

Sebaregulácia v kontexte rizikového správania v dospievaní

Author(s): Katarína Banárová / Language(s): Slovak

Keywords: self-regulation; risk behaviour; adolescence

Self-regulation, is one of the key human abilities. At its core are beliefs about whether people perceive themselves as autonomous and competent beings, whether they take responsibility for their behavior, what goals they choose, how they achieve them, how they plan and organize their activities, how they make decisions, and what emotions they experience in doing so. This book provides a perspective on self-regulation as a protective factor for risk behaviors in adolescence. The issue of risk behavior in adolescents is still an open and lively topic in terms of the changing dominance of its forms, which reflect the evolution of society. Our research aims to contribute to the understanding of the functioning of selected phenomena. We believe that the book will bring a closer understanding of the issue and valuable information not only for practitioners, prevention methodologists, psychologists, but also for teachers and parents who are in daily contact with adolescents.

Primární prevence v praxi – projekt 5S

Author(s): Eliška Sovová,Markéta Sovová,Milan Sova / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: health; fitness; sleep; sport; diet; stress; smoking

"This slim book was created during the Covid pandemic as a reaction to insufficient primary prevention of civilization diseases. It does not aim to be exhaustive, but rather to be a guide to further study of the available literature. In order to better remember the basic principles, we allowed ourselves to use the easy-to-remember 5S system – where the basic components for strengthening our health, including immunity, are Sleep, Diet, Sport (or rather physical activity), reduction of negative Stress and Stop smoking. As the pandemic progressed, we increasingly realized that the SARS-COV2 virus was not going away, that we would have to learn to live with it. So we expanded our 5S to Stop addictions, because other addictions can also cause negative stress and thus reduce our immunity and thus lead to the emergence of various civilizational diseases."

Santini and Italy

Author(s): / Language(s): English,Italian

Keywords: Santini; baroque; architecture; Rome; Italy; Czech Republic; Bohemia

This book contains proceedings of the international conference Santini and Italy, held in Rome in June 2023. In his contribution, Augusto Roca de Amicis describes the nature of the structural relations of Santini's work to Italian architecture. Pavel Kalina discusses the development of Santini scholarship in the art historical literature of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Richard Biegel shows in his contribution that the sources of Santini's work can be found not only in Italian but also in French architecture. Michael Young's text points to the connection between Santini's architecture and contemporary literary theory and practice, which blended different languages and styles. In his article, Ulrich Fürst stresses the importance of a sense of originality for the design of the Benedictine monastery church at Rajhrad, whose construction demonstrated its independence from the monastery of Břevnov, for which the Dientzenhofers worked. Johana Bronková explores the relationship between Santini's architecture and the work of the great Italian architect Francesco Borromini. Marisa Tabarrini presents a completely new discovery - the unknown plans of Santini's church of St. Peter and Paul in Prague's Zderaz. Important for understanding the functioning of Baroque buildings is the article by Jakub Řehak, who analyses the water and ventilation system of the monastery in Plasy. On the other hand, Madleine Riedenklau's text is devoted to the literature on the monastery and church in Sedlec. Irena Bukačová introduces the reader to the past and present of the pilgrimage site in Mariánská Týnice.

Overcoming difficulties after lower limb amputation

Překonávání obtíží po amputaci dolní končetiny

Author(s): Lubomír Brháček,Gabriela Birgusová,Miroslav Orel / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: trauma; lower limb amputation; prosthetic care; physiotherapy; coping; coping strategies; protective factors; comprehensive approach

The publication deals with overcoming difficulties related to the loss of a lower limb. It provides an introduction to basic topics that are absolutely crucial for the life of a person with an amputation. In addition to the amputation itself, this mainly concerns subsequent prosthetic care, reimbursement mechanisms for prosthetic devices, physiotherapy and the psychology of coping with challenging life situations. In the second part of the book, an original psychological study based on qualitative methodology is presented, which maps the ways in which people cope with amputation. This research presents the approach of ten individuals who manage their extremely difficult situation admirably. Due to their indomitability and active attitude, these people can be a role model, and not only for people with a serious health problem. Individual chapters try to briefly understand the psychological and physical aspects of amputation. The source of information is mainly modern foreign publications and researches. Some parts also contain practical knowledge of experts dealing with a certain aspect of amputation directly in the Czech environment. For greater clarity, a number of photographs have been included in the book, which help bring the issue of amputations and current prosthetic options closer to you.

Political organisations and programme documents of the Czech trade movement at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries

Politické organizace a programové dokumenty českého živnostenského hnutí na přelomu 19. a 20. století

Author(s): Pavel Marek / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: tradesmen; trade parties; political parties; political programmes

The book has two parts: the first describes non-political organisations and political parties founded by tradesmen and merchants, the second is a selection of programme documents of the non-political and political movement. The passages devoted to organizational development are in the nature of an outline, which is deepened in the passages devoted to the Czechoslovak Trader's Party in Moravia as the unit that adapted with the greatest success in the political system. In the second section of the documents, we have included the programmes of the state political parties and trade satellites of the civic and socialist political parties. This study is a probe into the beginnings of the politicization of the Czech trade movement in Bohemia and Moravia at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Czech historiography shows certain deficits in the sphere of interest in the topic of political organization of the social class of traders, craftsmen and merchants at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At the same time, it is a part of the middle class important for the stability of civil society.

The Hidden Heroes: three cases of the Mexican noir novel

Skrytí hrdinové: tři případy mexického románu noir

Author(s): Markéta Šimková / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: Mexican fiction; detective fiction; literary criticism and history

Hidden Heroes: Three Cases of the Mexican Noir Novel examines the novels of three writers who enriched Mexican crime fiction between 1976 and 2014. The first is Paco Ignacio Taibo II, considered by literary critics to be the founder and leading promoter of the noir subgenre in Mexico. The second author is Juan Hernández Luna, who incorporated fantastical elements into his work and revitalized Mexican noir. The last author is Gabriel Trujillo Munoz, who set his novels in the frontier north, but whose work cannot be simplistically classified as popular 'narcoliterature'. The selected works are analyzed using Doležel's theory of fictional worlds in an attempt to explore what characterizes the chosen narrative worlds and at the same time to demonstrate that the characters of the ""detectives"" of the Mexican noir novel are united by the concept of hidden heroism.

Steiner's contribution to modern psychology

Steinerův přínos moderní psychologii

Author(s): Zuzana Ledvoňová / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: philosophers; psychology; anthroposophical approach

The goal of this monograph is to uncover conributions of anthroposophy, a doctrine of Rudolf Steiner - thinker of the turn of 19th and 20th century, to the modern science and psychology and compare it with the contemporary scientific knowledge. It consists of analysis of Steiner's doctrine and its comparison with findings of theory of knowledge and psychology. First, we introduce Steiner’s life and work, then his doctrine– anthroposophy, which he called aspiritual science. However, this so called “science” is inconsistent with modern science in many ways, especially in the matter of existence and exploration of the supersensible worlds. The anthroposophy presumes an objective nature of thinking, but only under the assumption of cultivation of thereof and clairvoyant abilities training. Next part is dedicated to Steiner’s thoughts about psychology. For the sake of greater objectivity in science, Steiner and other authors agreed on the need to focus on research and development of the subject of knowledge. For this purpose, a new position of psychology and psychotherapy is oered, because both of them have tools and theories which helps to discover the attributes of the subject. Consequently, we introduce a new paradigm in psychology which is a connection between natural and spiritual sciences, by the same rule as a soul stands between the materialistic and spiritual world. We also outline a new different methodology approach apart from material knowledge and an integration of the sources of knowledge – senses, reason and intuition. Further, the monograph pursues Steiner’s theory of personality and development theory. According to Steiner, a personality consists of body, soul and spirit. Steiner’s theory of personality has the same units as Victor Frankl’s or Ludwig Klages’ theory. We can also find some similarities with transpersonal psychology. We compare Steiner’s conception with psychoanalytic, socialcognitive, humanistic-existential and traits approach as well. Steiner’s development theory is divided to seven-year periods and in each of them a specific part of human being is developing. In each of the period, there is a necessity to affect the developing part according to the principle of teachable moments and sensitive periods by Havighurst. We also find great correspondence with the Piaget’s development theory, partly with Ericson’s and categorical contradictions with Freud’s psychosexual development theory. This publication reveals similarities and differences between modern science and anthroposophy. We highlighted some of the weak points of anthroposophy as well as those of the modern science and introduced a draft of a new approach in science. This draft is a synthesis of both doctrines. This monograph is a contribution to discussion about scientific disposition of the anthroposofic approach. Beside this, we also evaluate usefulness and applicability of the Steiner’s knowledge within modern science.
