Libuše. Edition of Libretti

Libuše. Edice libret / Edition of Libretti

Author(s): / Language(s): English,Czech,German,Italian

Keywords: libretto; Libuše; Bedřich Smetana

The story of the mythical Princess Libuše has been one of the cornerstones of the “old Czech tales” for more than a thousand years. Over the centuries, it has also inspired many artistic treatments. Libuše had already entered the opera stage at the end of the 17th century – after several performances in Italian during the Baroque era, she reappeared in the first quarter of the 19th century in German Romantic opera. During the 19th century, Czech artists gave the character of Libuše – at least in the Czech environment – a petrified form. The anthology of Libuše librettos gathers for the first time in its comprehensiveness all published and so far unpublished opera librettos and other texts from the 17th to the 20th century, mostly set to music. It includes works written in Italian (F. Parisetti, G. C. Corradi, A. Denzio) and German (E. von Lannoy, J. C. Bernard, J. L. Choulant, J. Bayer, J. Wenzig, L. Hartmann) with parallel Czech translations, as well as texts in Czech (J. K. Chmelenský, F. Patočka, J. J. Kolár, E. Špindler, E. Destinnová, J. Berg). The edition is accompanied by an introductory study in Czech and English.

Diagnostics and Development of Computational Thinking in Primary Schools in the Context of Alternative Methods of Teaching Mathematics

Diagnostika a rozvoj informatického myšlení na základních školách v kontextu alternativních metod výuky matematiky

Author(s): Lucie Bryndová,Milan Klement,Kvetoslav Bartek / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: Computational thinking; diagnostics; didactic test; test tasks; alternative methods of teaching mathematics; Hejný´s method

The conception of computational thinking is inconsistent across the world curricula, which is related to the different approaches to implementing its targeted development in schools. The lack of an accepted exact definition has led to a number of problems with the implementation of this way of thinking in the educational process in the Czech environment, and although we are currently moving towards a clearer definition of computational thinking, it is still surrounded by a number of preconceptions. So the question arises, what exactly is computational thinking in the context of primary education in the Czech Republic? How can we diagnose its development and what is the common level of computational thinking in pupils? Finding the answers to these questions is quite crucial for the further development of informatics education in domestic primary schools.

Tibet - a Country Where People Have Leapt a Thousand Years Forward

Author(s): Jan Vinař / Language(s): English

Keywords: Tibet; Tibetan 1959 uprising; democratic reforms in Tibet; historical reportage; modern Tibetan history; Jan Vinař; Czechoslovaks in Tibet

The core of the book is a critical edition of an unpublished reportage of Jan Vinař from his 1959 trip to Tibet called Tibet - A Country where People Have Leaped a Thousand Years Forward. Vinař’s text was never published officially (there are only fifteen copies of a samizdat edition printed in 1983 in Zurich) and today it can be considered an important documentary material of the given historical period. The reportage written in 1960 echoes the official Chinese narrative of Tibetan history and social development and his views reflect the Chinese interpretation of the March 1959 uprising. The book is accompanied by so far unpublished photographic material from the 1959 journalist expedition to Tibet and scholarly commentary by editors to the original text in the form of footnotes and several studies clarifying certain aspects of the topic and the historical and political context. Kamila Hladíková describes the clash of Chinese and Tibetan narratives explaining recent Tibetan history, mainly regarding the occupation of Tibetan-inhabited territories by the PLA in 1950-1951 and the legitimization of the regime after 1959. Luboš Bělka provides detailed biography of Jan Vinař and explains the historical background of the decade between 1950 and 1959 in Tibet, analyzes the texts published by other visitors to Tibet in that time and introduces the phenomenon known in Tibetan language as thamzing, or struggle sessions.
