In order to fill this lack we propose a questionnaire model able to predict certain risk categories of a sexual nature encountered in the online environment. TERRORIST ACTIONS FROM THE MASS-MEDIA PERSPECTIVE

TERRORIST ACTIONS FROM THE MASS-MEDIA PERSPECTIVE

Author(s): Mariana-Ana Bulmez / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 16/2019

Regardless of the historical period, whether modern or contemporary, the media was an instrument of publicity of the terrorist act. Excessive media coverage of the terrorist act and the satisfaction of appetites for sensational public opinion, often overcome by the situation, led to situations that were hard to imagine: the society unhappy with a certain situation, insecurity, and violent reaction to the authorities at that time to the government. Thus a collective and generalized psychosis has been inoculated, an eloquent example of which is the speech by the leader of fundamentalist terrorism, Ben Laden, immediately after the launch of US military defeat against Afghanistan on 7 October 2001 via Al Jazeera, as well as the fierce call to jihad spokesperson for the Al Qaeda organization on October 10, 2001. The stakes were very high in this play of statements, and Ben Laden proves to be a very dangerous and subtle propaganda opponent knowing how to exploit his image in the Islamic world: "his ill-suited fragility, gallant gossip, the austere décor of his dwellings: caves, comfortless tents referring to the flight of the Prophet Muhammad to Medina, the unsavory Kalashnikov supported alongside, were perfectly matched with the profoundly religious asceticism and charge of messages, being perceived by Muslims as a genuine new prophet or martyr of Islam. " His actions are not inspired only by verses in the Qur'an, but are mainly political. The main claims are, in fact, to exclude Westerners from the Arab-Muslim traditional area of influence and to resolve conflicts, including the Arab-Israeli problem, a deep-rooted problem, which led to political and military instability in that area throughout the 20th century. Is Al-Qaeda a unique terrorist organization in history and very dangerous for the safety of Europeans only because it comes from Arab space? Probably not, because retrospectively, only in the 20th century, violent organizations acted everywhere in the European space, no matter what motivation they had: "Legion of the Archangel Michael" in 1927 in Romania; IRA, Irish Republican Army, organized in 1919 following the struggle for independence of Ireland; ETA, Euskadi ta Azkatasuna, "Basque Territory and Freedom", which emerged in Spain in 1959 with separatist aims and independence for the Basque Country in northern Spain; The extreme left-wing brigades in 1970 in Italy all fueled by group solidarity, based on a strong sense of national affiliation, creating true national myths and identifying their own ideals with the "will" of a whole nation, and the list can to remain open. Terrorism does not only appeal to the physical integrity of a nation, but to its moral structure.

WAS POPE PIUS XII “HITLER’S POPE”?

WAS POPE PIUS XII “HITLER’S POPE”?

Author(s): Florinela Naciu-Rușcea (Giurgea) / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 16/2019

The role of Pope Pius al XII-lea (Eugenio Pacelli) during the World War II is a highly controversial one, as a result of the fact that the archives of the Vatican are still closed. For many years, this Pope was accused of lack of reaction regardind to the Holocaustřs deportations and exterminations, and he was even called „Hitlerřs Popeŗ. The problem turned out to be a sensitive issue for the Papacy after the war, and remain so even in our days. At present, the Papacy tries a rehabilitation of him, a very important step in that direction being the announcement of the anticipated opening of the documents, in order to clarify the role of the Pope Pius al XII-lea during the World War II, decided by Pope Francisc, and conferences which are dedicated to the Papacy of those terrible years.

Biblická antropologie v podání Papežské biblické komise (2019)

Biblická antropologie v podání Papežské biblické komise (2019)

Author(s): Ctirad V. Pospíšil / Language(s): Czech Issue: 1/2023

The author of the study criticises the unusual length of the document, and therefore tries to present it in short to those interested. The fundamental shortcomings of the text are in methodology: both, the goal and concept of anthropology, are not defined; important documents of the International Theological Commission dealing with anthropology are not mentioned; for some passages, it was obligatory to recall the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church. Methodological vagueness is the reason for the endless description of the biblical content. However, in particular parts of the document, there is a great deal of interesting information and suggestions to which the author draws attention to in the last part of his study.

Друштвена (не)моћ жена у проституцији у државама Балкана

Друштвена (не)моћ жена у проституцији у државама Балкана

Author(s): Dragana Pejović / Language(s): English,Serbian Issue: 1/2017

The overwhelming view of prostitution as a socially unacceptable behaviour and a phenomenon demolishing social values has brought about a negative social stance towards women in prostitution throughout the Balkan states. Linking prostitution to various forms of criminality has contributed to the fact that prostitution within the Balkan region is studied from a primarily criminal legal aspect, while women engaging in prostitution are seen as persons of deviant behaviour. Prostitution is a complex social phenomenon, therefore analysing it from only a criminal legal aspect is one-sided and insufficient for its full comprehension – gender, historic and sociological aspects are essential in order not to view prostitution as a mere criminal activity. Before engaging in the analysis of prostitution and the position of women in prostitution from a gender aspect, it is inevitable to look into the legislation, which governs this domain. The objects of this research are the laws, which regulate prostitution in three neighbouring countries of the Balkans – the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia. Apart from the legal rimes of the aforementioned states, the analysis will also focus on the legislation of the Netherlands, as a jurisdiction, which has legalized prostitution, and of Sweden, as a state, which has decriminalized and regulated prostitution in a unique way. The objective of the present paper is to present prostitution from a gender perspective, with a special focus on the degree to which the laws of Balkan states are affecting the gender aspect of prostitution, as well as the overall position of women in prostitution in the Balkan region.

Roma Children's School Segregation As a Persistent Public Educational System Issue in Romania

Author(s): Fernando Varga / Language(s): English Issue: 7/2022

School segregation of Roma has become one of the most studied disciplines in the field of education in the last 20 years. Even though research mentions its persistence, no studies have shown how it persists, this study aims to fill this gap in the specialized literature. Based on the analysis of several reports, this qualitative study aims to show how the school segregation of Roma in Romania survives in the mainstream education system. Despite the fact that in 2004 the state recognized the seriousness of the problem and introduced Ordinance 1540/2007 prohibiting all forms of school segregation, many public-school units in Romania continue to practice this form of discrimination against Roma children. School segregation is a persistent problem in Romania, and studies show that between 1998 and 2016, the proportion of segregated schools increased significantly, becoming a barrier in the Roma integration process. The recommendations of the study on solutions against the school segregation of Roma children aim to involve Roma civil society in the process of monitoring segregated schools, enrolling Roma children from residentially segregated communities in mixed schools and informing parents about the consequences of segregation on Roma children.

Education, Neurotechnologies, and Ethics. An overview

Education, Neurotechnologies, and Ethics. An overview

Author(s): Maria Sinaci,Gabriel Hasmatuchi / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

The progress made in recent decades in neuroscience and new technologies have also influenced the educational environment from the perspective of the didactic methods used and the integration of modern methods. Educational neurotechnologies increasingly present in educational systems are also more challenging for both students, teachers, and parents. In the present article we provide an overview of educational neurotechnologies, with an analysis of the benefits and ethical-legal issues raised by their use. We bring to attention the need to train teachers, in the sense of developing specific skills for using neurotechnologies in the classroom, through training courses. Only in this way is it possible to prevent errors and possible unwanted effects. We sustain the need to integrate the use of educational neurotechnologies in an ethical-legal framework for ensuring personal neurobiological data and respecting confidentiality. The methods used are the analysis of the data provided by specialized works, especially recent ones, the extraction of relevant information for the researched topic and then their synthesis for a better understanding of the problems and the identification of possible solutions.

“Smart” cities: The new paradigm of urban development

“Smart” cities: The new paradigm of urban development

Author(s): Dušan B. Kesić / Language(s): English,Serbian Issue: 1/2023

The progress achieved in the field of ICT has caused a major change in the paradigm of urban development, and research directed towards the development of smart cities is characterized as a central interest of modern society. Smart cities are designed as a kind of panacea for the accumulated problems of urban development. Although this idea is rooted in the achievements of ICT, the contemporary understanding of the concept implies that the smart city goes beyond the mere application of technology. Moreover, the holistic perspective emphasizes the primacy of human and social capital as the supporting pillars of a smart city. Considering the above, the aim of this paper is to achieve a systematic insight into the evolution of the smart city concept, that is, to see the peculiarities of its conceptualization, key dimensions and indicators, as well as the relationship to similar concepts.

Author(s): Miloš T. Tomić / Language(s): English,Serbian Issue: 1/2023

This concept is a standard in urban planning and transformation of services (transport, healthcare, education, security, ecology), the main characteristic of which is digitization, i.e., the application of modern information communication technology. This paper is aimed at describing key characteristics of smart cities and sustainable society, including practical examples of successfully transformed digital nations. The paper applies the content analysis technique and the historical- comparative analysis of the social digitization process.

Smart city development strategies: data determinism and technological sovereignty

Author(s): Lazar A. Dimitrijević / Language(s): English,Serbian Issue: 1/2023

This paper analyzes the role of the citizen through the nexus between the notion of ‘the right to the city’ and the current challenges of data integrity. The introductory discussion explains the contingencies of data, regarding the citizen, and the postulations of technological sovereignty as an alternative to the corporate smart city design. The deployed method includes content analysis and literature reviews pertaining to the phenomenon of data alienation, data security, and the political dichotomies between the “hard” and “soft” approaches to the strategies of smart city development. The first part elucidates the position of data in the smart city construct, whilst the second part inquires about the social and political role of the citizen in smart cities.
