Summary/Abstract: This paper describes family resilience as the ability to constructively approach the specific problem of having a child with a disability. The author defines the external and internal resources that a family can draw on to be resilient in the face of the stresses that arise. Successful resilience in a family is not only about coping with stressful situations, but is also a source of transformation and empowerment for individual familymembers.
