Author(s): Emanuel Plopeanu / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2017

The aim of this paper is to highlight the way in which the United States press looked upon political evolution in the Balkans, between the two World Wars. We try to identify the main concepts through which the U.S. press defined the Balkan statehood and the relations between governments and peoples. Coming from a long distanced society, but one in which respecting rules was at high level for centuries, it is important to see the image cultivated into the American society, by the American press. In many cases, the definitions of this area are not quite satisfactory, the U.S. press frequently mentioning the governmental corruption, the lack of care about people needs, the absolute need for power, the malfunction of the state powers – definitions, which, in our days, are gathered into a single concept: “failed states”.

Author(s): Dimitrios Roumpos / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 1/2017

In the environment of complex contemporary social and economic structures, direct exchange of cultural properties is not always possible. It needs the intermediation of a third party, usually an institution that encourages and supports art and carries out the communication between the audience and the wealth of culture artefacts. This research paper focuses especially on the international cultural organizations which have laid the foundations of international cooperation in culture. It also draws attention to culture institutes as structures, funded by the government (autonomous or semiautonomous), that carry out activities related to language training and literature, activities for the popularization of reading or organize cultural events in bigger towns e.g. exhibitions, theatrical performances, cinema nights, etc.

Author(s): Diana Radoynova / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 1/2017

The paper studies the middle part of the Strandzha Mountains. The population of the region has an almost entirely Bulgarian ethnic identity. Strandzha is an active ethnic-cultural contact zone and ethnic identity reflexes are strongly exhibited here. The settlements’ territory is perceived as the proprietary, absorbed territory, it is the core of the local microcosm with the zones around the core serving as limits. They are the borders separating the domestic from the foreign, but also the place where the two meet, communicate or compare. The sacral geography and the legendary narratives that have merged with it in the region of Middle Strandzha are forms of ethnic interpretation of space through the means of memory. The space itself functions as a text, which contains within itself different messages about the human communities inhabiting it – be they local, ethnic or religious. The ethnology of space is above all else a topography of the various community types and their strength – overtly or covertly.

Author(s): Stela Moneva / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 1/2017

The present paper analyzes from a new point of view a known part of the First speech of the public speaker Lysias. The main idea is to present the behaviour of three women inhabitants of ancient Athens – behaviour that throws light on the daily round of the city. Special attention is paid to cases of breaking legal regulations: marital fidelity is violated by an Athenian wife, the customary period of mourning is not observed, another Athenian woman also is unfaithful to her husband and slanders, and an “obedient” woman slave betrays her mistress. The text illustrates aspects of the mentality of a person from antiquity.

Author(s): Desislava Poleganova / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 1/2017

Current tendencies in the social and economic development of the Balkan countries (a very disputable for delimitation territorial unit of states) have a very specific nature and play important role for fostering economic cooperation between the East and the West (in particular EU and Asia). The first problematic paper goal is to delineate the borders of the Balkan region. The territorial scale of the region is strongly dependent on different authors’ and researchers’ point of view. In the paper is accepted that the Balkan region comprises the following countries: Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Serbia, Cyprus and Turkey.

E-learning ako komunikačná situácia s potenciálom a limitmi: názory a skúsenosti vysokoškolákov

E-learning ako komunikačná situácia s potenciálom a limitmi: názory a skúsenosti vysokoškolákov

Author(s): Pavol Rankov / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 2/2023

Student discourse on e-learning was investigated in six separate research studies from autumn 2020 to summer 2022. Udes qualitative methods were authobiografical retrospective essay, structured interview and questionnaire with open questions. The respondents were Slovak and Czech university students. The corpus of text data was evaluated by discourse analysis. Most students find e-learning more demanding than face-to-face education in terms of concentration and fatigue. The home environment gives students distraction and the computer is a multitasking medium. E-learning does not sufficiently support interactive communication with feedback between teachers and students, but it is also not a sufficient platform for effective communication between students. Direct interpersonal communication is important for building informal student relationships that support a creative atmosphere in the student group. Most respondents prefer face-to-face education, but with the advantages of online technologies, e.g. in case of illness or for dissemination of study materials.

Author(s): Vlajko Brajić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1-4/1983

Employment, especially the employment of young people, is usually related to the employment policy, but in doing so, vocational training must be taken into account as an element which, to a large extent, has bearing on the solution of the problems of employment. In that respect, the author states that the question of the (financial) stimulation of vocational training is of particular significance. This stimulation cannot be reduced merely to the efforts of schools; but insists that it must consist of a system of measures. One of the more significant measures could be the conditioning of employment (the linking of employment) to the success in vocational training to a larger extent than so far. From the point of view of this problem as well as social needs In this field, a brief reference is made to the problem of the shortage of appropriately trained personnel, stressing the need for the stimulation of employment in the fields where the lack of personnel is most evident, as the solution to the problem. All this cannot be possible without a clearly defined employment policy and all the appropriate conditions (if not better) in those fields where the lack of skilled (trained) personnel is evident. It is also pointed to the significance and insufficient study of the importance of the „housing policy” (the policy of housing construction) in regard to employment. Further, the significance of research (innovations and inventions) is underlined, together with the problems which should be solved. The thesis on the significance of the „quality” (level) of skill or training for the increase in productivity and inventions — at the same time, for better employment — is elaborated. The conclusion deals with a summary of the problems touched upon in the text, emphasizing the significance of qualified vocational training, research and inventions, and their stimulation for better productivity and employment.

Author(s): Miodrag Simić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1-4/1983

It is indisputable that attempts at endangering the Yugoslav self-government socialist social system in internal affairs originate from forces troubled by the favourable development of its society. So far, their attempts have been manifested in versatile activities directed against its self-government socialist system. Availing themselves of the momentary crisis in the economic, political, international, cultural and religious relations in Yugoslavia, they have made marked efforts at provoking unstableness of its social and political system. By voicing their opinions through various media, these forces have been trying to present themselves to the international public opinion as the political opposition in this country. The activities of these forces are manifested in the attempts to endanger the Yugoslav society by various psychological propaganda, like the spreading of misinformation, lies and half-lies. These anti-socialist and anti-self-government forces, through the above mentioned activities, and aided by similar forces from abroad, have been trying to influence the viewpoints and behavior of the people, and present certain legitimate and necessary acts of defence of the fundamental values of Yugoslav society as undemocratic and repressive, in severe opposition to to the elementary principles of the Helsinki Agreement of 1975. However, owing to the conception of nation-wide military defence and other social defensive activities, which is constantly being developed and expanded by new elements, especially at this moment of aggravation of international affairs, editors and editor’s councils in the mass-media in Yugoslavia are under the special duty of resolutely preventing any attempt of infiltration of these destructive forces into the mass-media.

Selected Representations of the Phenomenological Orientation of Polish Pedagogical Thought

Selected Representations of the Phenomenological Orientation of Polish Pedagogical Thought

Author(s): Jarosław Gara / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

This article indicates the basic premises and differentiating contexts that underlie the conceptual specificity of phenomenological pedagogy. In this context, three original positions of phenomenological orientation in Polish pedagogical thought have been presented. In accordance with their specific features, the first position refers to the phenomenological problematization of issues related to pedagogical axiology in a particular way, the second position refers to issues associated with pedagogical teleology, while the third relates to matters connected to pedagogical anthropology. Each of these positions is based on original theoretical solutions that have raised interest and initiated discussion on phenomenological pedagogy in Polish literature, beginning in the 1980s.

How Men Court and Women Flirt: Reconstruction of Cultural Scripts on the Material of Russian Verbs

How Men Court and Women Flirt: Reconstruction of Cultural Scripts on the Material of Russian Verbs

Author(s): Zifa Kakbaevna Temirgazina,Vladimir P. Sinyachkin,Sergey Nikolayenko / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

The article proposes an approach to the description of cultural scripts based on the component analysis of the semantics of verbs, and on the Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) method proposed by A. Wierzbicka and C. Goddard. A semantic analysis of Russian verbs denoting courtship and flirting made it possible to identify the cultural and gender features of the courtship and flirting process, the behavior of the subject and object, their motives and goals. As it was found out, the axiological aspect that conveys the attitude of society – the approval or condemnation of the behavior of the subject or object of action, their goals – is very important for the courtship and flirting scripts. Cultural scripts of courtship and flirting act as a complex semiotic system in which, in addition to verbal signs, various non-verbal signs are involved.

Author(s): Milan Radaković,Goran Marinković / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2021

It can be said that sport is a complex anthropological phenomenon in the modern world. Many economic analyzes show that sport is the second largest branch of the economy in terms of money and profit, right behind the petrochemical industry. A vast number of sociological studies and research indicate that the entire cultural stereotypes of modern man are most easily formed and changed through sports. Globalization has contributed to the rapid flow of money and information over long distances, thus encompassing a large number of countries and world populations. In the process of globalization, sport is becoming increasingly dependent on the strategic movement of capital, not only within national borders, but also internationally confirming its global dependence and commitment. The process of commercialization has forced sports organizations to become market-oriented, to meet the needs of users, to seek and implement new strategies that will increase their revenues and profits in order to remain on the market. Commercialization in sports has led to the introduction of strategic planning, systems management, quality management in sports organizations, which has increased efficiency, effectiveness, quality, and improvement of the sports organization itself.

Author(s): Željko Turčinović / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2021

The world's three largest manufacturers of sports equipment in their business apply different strategies. All three gave them great success. Nike is a global leader. With aggressive marketing and innovative products, that American company dictates the pace of sports business in a world in which not only sees the sport, but also a reflection of lifestyle. Nike advertises a style that could be called "playful". Adidas is on the offensive in the European and American markets: it has won typical American sports: basketball, baseball and American football. Adidas connects attribute "reliable". Puma throws all the cards on individuality (the product is offered individually and adapted to the needs of each individual group of consumers). [1] The topic of this paper is the implementation of strategic management in Puma.
