The sample population consisted of executives of 5-star hotels across the country and members of the Hellenic Association of Professional Congress Organizers (HAPCO). According to our findings, the vast majority of members of 5-star hotels supports that medical tourism could contribute positively to the economic development of the region and to the development of tourism in the country. Majority of executives also believe that investments in medical tourism will be very helpful in attracting tourists and stimulating economic development. Polski epizod w działalności artystycznej pianisty i kompozytora Josepha Woelfla

Polski epizod w działalności artystycznej pianisty i kompozytora Josepha Woelfla

Author(s): Ewa Bogula-Gniazdowska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 02 (25)/2015

Joseph Woelfl, an Austrian pianist and composer, was born on 24th December 1773 in Salzburg, where he began his musical education. In 1790 he left his hometown for Vienna, most probably following Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He can’t have stayed there long as in 1791 he was admitted for service at Prince Michał Kleofas Ogiński’s estate, where he spent about fifteen months. Prince Ogiński is remembered in the history of music mainly as the master of the stylised polonaise. The short cooperation with Woelfl bore fruit in their artistic activities, as Prince Ogiński created his first stylised polonaises during that time. Similarly, Woelfl was inspired by Polish surroundings. During his stay in Warsaw he created „Polonaise”, which became part of his sonata, marked as Fw 7 by Margit Haider-Dechant in the Joseph Woelfl. „Verzeichnis seiner Werke”, which was probably performed during a public concert in the capital of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1792. The Polish dance must have made a great impression on the Austrian composer, as Polonaise in the form of a rondo reappeared in his musical output in the third movement of Piano Concerto No. 1 op. 20, published in Paris nearly ten years later. Neither Joseph Woelfl nor above mentioned Piano Concerto op. 20 are currently popular in Poland. Thus, I would like to have a closer look at the piece, paying particular attention to the third movement „Rondo à la Polonaise” and at the same time referring to the mutual inspirations of the Austrian and Prince Michał Kleofas Ogiński.

Publicystki lwowskiej „Awangardy” o „sprawach teatru, kina i radia”

Publicystki lwowskiej „Awangardy” o „sprawach teatru, kina i radia”

Author(s): Małgorzata Radkiewicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 04/2015

In my article I present results of my research that has been done within the “pioneers with a camera” project, financed by the National Science Centre. The main goal of the article is to show women’s involvement in the film culture of Lviv in 1930s, embodied in the Film Club “Awangarda”. As active members of the “film society” consisted of film critics and researchers, but also artists and filmmakers, women were authors of numerous articles published in the “Awangarda” magazine on – as the title explained – the issue of cinema, radio and theatre”. The combination of research perspectives, including women’s studies and film studies, allowed me to examine archival press materials in terms of women’s creativity and emancipation, understood as openness for new technologies, and participation in visual culture, both as consumers and creators. What makes the Galician context important is the fact that that was the part of Poland where the first Polish cinematoscopes arrived and then developed at the highest rate, especially in Cracow and Lviv. My article and the project as a whole are particularly focused on women’s participation in the development of Polish cinema from the perspectives of film studies, history, culture and anthropology.

W metropolii i poza nią – kina na Dolnym Śląsku przed rokiem 1945

W metropolii i poza nią – kina na Dolnym Śląsku przed rokiem 1945

Author(s): Andrzej Dębski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 04/2015

The article addresses issues of regional cinema history in the case of Lower Silesia before the year 1945 and enlivens the discourse on the relationship between metropolis (Wrocław) and periphery. The development and growing significance of cinemas in local communities is shown on the examples of Strzelin – then a city of several thousand residents – and Kloster Street in Wrocław. Discourse of metropolis and periphery is expanded by the examples from Świdnica (“the first stationary cinema in Silesia”), Polanica Zdrój (“the biggest cinema in Kłodzko County”) and Bolesławiec (“the first city in Lower Silesia in which sound films where projected”). The article is concluded with a description of Historical Database of Cinemas in Lower Silesia, which – being a tool for data capturing and analysis – constitutes a substantial support for traditional methods of research in humanities.

In the 19th century Piotrkow was a town where Polish and Jewish society lived together. Poles, however, presented a greater percentage of the whole society, that was 60% . Since1867 the development of economy and culture was directly associated with the administrative functions of the town. Those who organized the cultural life in the town were mainly the intellectuals. They initiated a great number of social enterprises as well as formed the public opinion. Moreover, the news from Warsaw exerted the direct influence on the cultural life of the town. The capital city of Poland affected Piotrkow in nearly each sphere of life. After the Second World War, the totalitarian regimes have collapsed and paved the way for a multiparty system by giving it’s way to more democratic regimes which aggrandize the individual right and freedoms. The multiparty system gives important clues about the modernization adventure of a society because of embodying in itself a change and a transformation in political life. It is extremely easy to adapt to a multiparty system and the terms of this in a society without cultural, economical and political breakdowns. It seems getting support from federalist Sandanski group was not important just because a part of an ethnical group in the region making an aligment with İTP. Instead Sandanski was offering the choice of becoming a regional süper-power to the Ottoman State which could not be evaluated as an “Empire” anymore. The “Balkan Federation” option leaded by Ottoman State being proposed by IMRO’s left- wing leader, consisting the chance of a new- foundation in the region, composing of Albania, Macedonia and the Ottomans, was perhaps the only chance for İTP to ensure the Ottomans to survive within the European concept. By leaving the generous, “Balkan Federation” onto the laps of İTP, Yane Sandanski was just demanding to become the legal political leader of an autonomous goverment of united Macedonia. So the aligment between Sandanski’s left- nationalist group and nationalist İTP, can be called as the first “Red Apple Coalition” of contenmporary Turkish politics.
