Kritika postkolonijalnog uma

Author(s): Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak / Language(s): Serbian

In the first full treatment of postcolonial studies, a field that she helped define, Gayatri C. Spivak, one of the world’s foremost literary theorists, attempts to describe a responsible role for the postcolonial critic within the postcolonial enclave. A Critique of Postcolonial Reason track the figure of the ‘native informant’ through various cultural practices – philosophy, history, literature – to suggest that it emerges as the metropolitian hybrid.

Socijalni kapital

Author(s): Berto Šalaj / Language(s): Croatian

Author(s): Lucien Goldmann / Language(s): Bosnian Publication Year: 0

Bez sumnje, izgledaće pomalo subjektivno stavljanje u prvi plan dva imena gotovo nepoznata francuskim čitaocima, naviknutim na nabrajanje nekoliko uvijek istih, posvećenih imena: Tomas Man u književnosti, Rilke, Stefan George u poeziji, Huserl i Hajdeger u filozofiji.

Transition in Central and Eastern European Countries

Author(s): / Language(s): English

Papers collected in this book were presented at an international scientific conference "Transition in CEE Countries: Experiences and Future Perspectives" which was held on November 3rd and 4th 2006 in Dubrovnik. The Conference was organized by the Political Science Research Centre Forum, in cooperation with the University of Dubrovnik. It gathered eminent scientists from Croatia and Europe that are positioned in different scientific orientations and points of view. Papers presented in this book discuss different transition phenomena, from general theoretica issues to very specific transformation processes in particular countries. Papers in this collection could be roughly divided into two main parts. The first one includes papers that analyse and discuss general theoretical and conceptual insights and consequences regarding transition processes. This is mainly the case with papers of the following authors: Philippe C. Schmitter, Anđelko Milardović, Pero Maldini and Mislav Kukoč. Their papers provide theoretical overviews of theories of consolidated democracy, Europeanization, socio-cultural values, multiculturalism and the issue of sovereignty. The second group consists of papers with more specific analysis; they are either focused on particular aspects of the transition process in CEE countries or they are aiming to offer a broader understanding of transition patterns in specific countries. This group of papers includes the works of Mate Szabo, Jacek Klich, Vladimira Dvorakova, Davorka Vidović, Davor Pauković, Tomaž Deželan and Damjan Lajh. Their papers examine subjects such as: dealing with the past and lustration, protests in countries pre- and post-1991, ideologies and their role in the transition process, citizenship and the nature of the franchise, as well as social policy change in terms of welfare in transition. Different theoretical approaches and thematic diversity of presented papers form a multidisciplinary character of this book. The studies mainly used the comparative approach, which is in theoretical and pratical sense actually inherent to the subject of democratic transition. In the scope of social sciences this book has managed to offer a relatively wide image of specific features and different experiences of democratic transition, as well as of ways of thinking and interpreting contemporary social reality in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

Author(s): Mariana Malinova Tien / Language(s): Bulgarian

Chinese civilization is one of the five great nations that were evident in the ancient human history. Even today Chinese civilization is perceived and described in the academic literature as a civilization that is creating, developing and administering the ideology (religio-philosophical) and the cultural orientation of their neighbor countries. The forming of the cultural areal in East Asia has begun after the discovery of the Chinese hieroglyphs around 1000 years B.C. The author of this monograph is not repeating the known about the history of the Chinese civilization but she rather goes into a topic that is less explored. The chronological range of her research is from 3000 years B.C. to 8th century B.C.; from the end of Neolithic era to the first items made of iron. This book is among the first Bulgarian monographs on Asian topic. It is written by a scholar that speaks Chinese fluently, has diplomas from three Chinese universities and that had specialized Chinese archaeology, Old Chinese history and Old Chinese language. One of the biggest problems before the author and here work with the old texts has been the fact that she had to separate myths from history, because in the East traditionally from myths mark the beginning of history. In this book is reviewed the specific terminology in Chinese archaeology, especially the terminology from the Bronze era and the ancient Chinese bronze. In the book there are pictures of many Chinese archaeological items, or graphics of such with information about their physical characteristics and locations where they have been found. This academic work has contributed to the Bulgarian science society and more directly - to the Bulgarian Asian studies.

Assessing the Integration of Vulnerable Migrant Groups in Ten EU Member States

Author(s): Mila Mancheva,Andrey Nonchev,Slavyanka Ivanova / Language(s): English

This publication presents the results of a comparative monitoring study of the integration policies and outcomes for third-country-national (TCN) women, TCN children and TCN victims of trafficking in ten EU member states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Spain. The study produced findings at two levels of analysis: an in-depth assessment of how migrant integration policies and programmes meet the needs of vulnerable migrant groups, and an assessment of their integration outcomes. Drawing on the analysis of these findings, the publication provides recommendations for improving monitoring mechanisms for migrant integration at the national and EU levels and for elaborating policy approaches for better integration of vulnerable migrants.

Author(s): Lejla Žujo-Marić / Language(s): Bosnian Publication Year: 0

This work tries to analyze a town as a symbolic place in Mak Dizdar`s Stone Sleeper and to answer what is its function and meaning. Town has symbolical meaning that is a product of culture, so it is perceived as a cultural metaphor. Metaphorical meaning of the town in Dizdar`s Stone Sleeper has its roots in medieval Bosnian tradition, in oral poetry, Bosniak`s poetry on Oriental languages and modern poetry.

Gerc vs. Levi-Stros: latentne strukturalne pretpostavke u Gercovom kulturalizmu?

Author(s): Gordana Gorunović / Language(s): Serbian Publication Year: 0

These are two authors, in Foucauldian terms that certainly belong to the most influential individuals in socio-cultural anthropology, as well as in the social sciences and interdisci-plinary research more broadly. Claude Levi-Strauss became some kind of an intellectual hero during the domination of structuralism in the mid-twentieth century and during the 1960s, while Clifford Geertz was an icon and ambassador of anthropology in the second half of the twentieth century. They are both one of the founders of the discourse theory. They not only established a distinct theoretical approaches and methods structural (Levi-Strauss) and interpretative anthropology (Clifford Geertz), but through their intellectual authority they also inspired paradigms and intellectual move-ments making structuralism and interpretation of culture more than some passing episodes in the history of social tho-ugh (in terms of trendy ideas ). My aim is to make some parallels between these two aut-hors, who despite all the differences that are evident in their epi-stemological discourses, theoretical approaches and methods (as well as in their ethnographic and anthropological writings it-self) still have some similarities in their theorisation and inter-pretation of culture, which I would like to stress in this paper.

Etnografski muzeji/zbirke i konstrukcija identiteta

Author(s): Ljiljana Gavrilović / Language(s): Serbian Publication Year: 0

This paper discusses museum theory and the local museum practice as factors building in construction/re-construction of an identity at various levels, including an individual, minority groups, and dominant cultural, socio-economic group. Furthermore, the paper assesses the role of museum in preventing/including certain social groups/categories toward access to culture as a means of social stratification, and in addition, possibilities of alteration of that same role toward more active participation of a museum in its social surroundings, in accordance with the new museum paradigm. Especially emphasized is an analysis of the role and meaning of ethnographic museums/collections in the process of shaping national/ethnic identities and further possibilities of inclusion of minorities, absent from the usual practice. This refers to the acquisition of objectsbelonging to a minority group, and on the other hand, to their underpresentation, which indicates a cultural segregation.

O (ne)poslušnim kćerima: žene i rod u diskursu naučne fantastike

Author(s): Iva Nenić / Language(s): Serbian Publication Year: 0

Discursive constructions of gender and femininity in science fiction point to the close ties of science fiction’s "secondary worlds" to the living practices and experiences considering technology and cultural articulation of the difference. Early science fiction novels featured female characters somewhere in the back of the stage, but new wave in science fiction tended to disbalance stereotypes concerning gender, thus making path for cyberpunk and "hard" science fiction from the mid-1980s and on to disperse once unified notion of gender by thematizing effects on technology on human subject. Figure of human-machine hybrid today isusual part of both science fiction and theoretical imaginary, where key contribution stems from the work of feminist theorist Donna Haraway and her view of cyborg as symptom-metaphor of female emancipation through pact with technology. But who owns cyborg’s pleasure? Answer to this question could be found in two science fiction series which proved to be influential in changing genre’s paradigm – in William Gibson’s cyberpunk trilogy "Sprawl", and in Dan Simmons’ tetralogy "Songs of Hyperion" – where key for dealing with fears (and hopes) regarding human relation to technology lies in female characters.

LITTLE TURKEY IN GREAT BRITAIN co-authored by Ibrahim Sirkeci, Tuncay Bilecen, Yakup Çoştu, Saniye Dedeoğlu, M. Rauf Kesici, B. Dilara Şeker, Fethiye Tilbe, K. Onur Unutulmaz is the outcome of a collaborative writing exercise drawing upon a dozen of research projects carried out by authors independently and collaboratively from 2011 to 2015. This book is expected to be the authoritative resource for anybody interested in the contemporary Turkish and Kurdish speaking immigrant community in the UK. Rich material covers official statistics as well as a wealth of narratives built upon hundreds of face-to-face interviews carried out in London and elsewhere in Britain. From the back cover: "Turkish migration to British Isles has a long history but sizeable diaspora communities and enclaves of Turkish origin have emerged only in the last four to five decades. Earlier groups arrived were Cypriots fleeing the troubled island in the Eastern Mediterranean whilst Turks and Kurds of the mainland were not even considering the UK as a destination. This book is about these contemporary movers from Turkey, their movement trajectories, practices, and integration in Britain. Eight researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds and methodological schools came together to do the ground work for the students of this emerging subfield of human mobility studies. Turkey is now at the forefront of accommodating large scale inward mobility mostly due to the crisis in Syria and Iraq. This also brings some attention to Turkey’s own diasporic populations." CONTENT Introduction Chapter 1. The Numbers about Turks, Kurds and Turkish Cypriots Chapter 2. Identity and integration Chapter 3. Political participation in London Chapter 4. Ankara Agreement and the new wave of movers Annex. Full Text of The Ankara Agreement Chapter 5. Work and social relations in London Chapter 6. Author(s): Philip Gounev,Marko Hajdinjak,Antonina Zhelyazkova,Antonija Petričušić,Viorel Cibotaru,Elton Skendaj,Toni Petkovic,Zhidas Daskalovski / Language(s): English

This report examines how cultural beliefs and practices influence gun ownership and use in SEE, and how these might affect SALW control interventions. It was initially researched by the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD), Bulgaria during Autumn 2005 and Spring 2006. It was compiled and drafted by Mr. Philip Gounev, Research Fellow, Centre for the Study of Democracy and Mr. Marko Hajdinjak, Researcher, International Centre for Minority Studies and Intercultural Relations, Bulgaria. // An anthropological approach was taken to better understand the reasons for civilian gun ownership and use, and the ways in which society represents these behaviours, in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro (including the UN Administered Territory of Kosovo). A wide variety of research tools were used including household surveys (HHS) conducted by SEESAC and UNDP, focus group transcripts, secondary literature searches, statistical data, anthropological field studies, the Internet, print and electronic media.

Az arab világ történeti és kulturális kislexikona

Author(s): / Language(s): Hungarian

The lexicon is divided into four chapters. The first one is a detailed introduction, where we present a professional background of our topic, the significance of our research, the structure of our work, as well as the used literature and sources, in addition to an overview of the Arab-Hungarian relations. In the second and longest chapter, we portray biographies of the Arab personalities. In the third one, we examine the most important historical events in the Arab world, such as the Arab-Israeli wars, the nationalization of the Suez Canal, and the parallel crisis of 1956. In the last chapter, we briefly introduce concepts related to the stories and biographies found in the volume.Only a few results of Arabic historiography have been integrated into modern Hungarian research. Therefore, we consider it a priority to fill this gap. The aim of this work is to create a lexicon in which we gather – in the form of articles – the most eminent Arab personalities (approximately 1000), who were/are decisive in political, economic, military or even cultural life and others associated with the Arab world.

Cultural and social diversity in Slovakia iv. social change and adaptation

Author(s): / Language(s): English

The publication hereby presented to the public focuses on the processes of adaptation of individuals and groups of urban inhabitants in the period of social changes after 1989. From the outside, the collapse of Communism in Czechoslovakia was a simple act of formal resignation by which the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia admitted its inability to further lead this country. The subsequent changes, however, affected almost all aspects of everyday life. The developments in this unstable and heterogeneous political situation was reflected in social relationships; the restructuring of ownership had positive effects on some people, and negative ones on others; the changes in the labour market and employment weakened the life securities, and changed the work habits inherited from the time of socialism. The period after 1989 was characterised by the arrival of foreign companies and their managers, and proven ways of advertising and goods from all over the world, changing the culture of work, clothing, housing, catering, etc. The mass media crossed the borders of the “socialist camp” and brought new ideas, ideals, cultural models or ways of behaviour. The “global world” penetrated lives of the citizens in many ways. The free market destroyed the long-preserved cultural models and became the determining criterion of values for many. The norm our society places in front of its members is the norm of ability and willingness to play the role of a consumer (Bauman 1999: 98). Commercialisation and globalisation are the accompanying phenomena of these processes.

Savremena simbioza - nauka i društvo

Author(s): / Language(s): Bosnian,Croatian,Serbian

Zato ulaganje u nauku i obrazovanje, a samim tim i u ljudske resurse, donosi veliku korist za pojedince i društvo u cjelini. Pojedinci i društvene grupe zauzimaju odreĊeno mjesto u društvu na osnovu znanja kojim raspolaţu. Ono unapreĊuje sve oblasti ĉovjekovog ţivota i djelovanja.
