Author(s): Aleksandra Stolarczyk,Patrycjusz Matwiejczuk / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2024

The aim of the study was to check whether there is a relationship between the sense of meaning in life and the level of depression felt by people participating in closed forums on Facebook`s about depression, and to determine whether there are diff erences in the sense of meaning in life and the level of depression felt due to having a social network. support. This goal was achieved by conducting research using the KPD and KPŻ questionnaires. The analysis of the obtained research results indicates an existing relationship between the sense of meaning in life and the level of depression felt by people participating in closed Facebook forums about depression. People who do not have a clearly defi ned goal, do not understand their place in the world and consider their lives monotonous are more likely to experience depressive symptoms. This relationship also works in the opposite direction - the severity of depressive symptoms reduces the sense of meaning in one’s existence. The results of the analyzes allowed for the verifi cation and confi rmation of the main hypotheses. Not all detailed hypotheses were confi rmed due to the lack of statistically signifi cant relationships between the variables.

Wyzwania dla bezpieczeństwa psychicznego nauczycieli w miejscu pracy – badania pilotażowe w gminie Strzelin

Author(s): Tomasz R. Dębowski,Michał Lubicz Miszewski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2024

The study aims to show how teachers’ interactions with students, parents or legal guardians, and colleagues in the workplace affect educators’ sense of psychological safety. To this end, the survey and in-depth interviews were carried out among teachers of public educational institutions in the municipality of Strzelin (in the Lower Silesian Province). A noticeable scarcity of studies on the aggressive acts directed against educators and their consequences was the inspiration to undertake them. Publications on increasing the levels of physical, psychological, sexual, and economic aggression among students are much more common. The obtained research results show that many teachers feel “left behind” in the face of the aggression they experience, expressing the view that they cannot count on help and understanding from either the Ministry of Education and Science or their immediate superiors. Furthermore, the measurements showed that educators need to be more adequately assimilated knowledge of the legal protection to which they are entitled and are also unaware of ministerial initiatives to provide psychological support for teachers. The conducted pilot study argues in favour of the desirability of pursuing subsequent in-depth research addressing the issue of teachers’ psychological safety.

Author(s): Ramona Mihăilă / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

Based on an in-depth survey of the literature, the purpose of the paper is to explore 3D body scanning and deep learning-based multimodal emotion recognition technologies, object detection and categorization algorithms, and augmented reality face filters. Throughout June 2023, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including “body-image affective judgments” and “dysfunctional appearance beliefs” + “3D virtual garment simulation and facial expression recognition technologies,” “beauty filter-based appealing self-presentation and generative artificial intelligence virtual try-on tools,” and “deep learning-based gesture recognition and augmented reality face makeup systems.” As research published between 2017 and 2022 was inspected, only 170 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria, and 25 mainly empirical sources were selected. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AMSTAR, Dedoose, Distiller SR, and SRDR.

Гневът като основна емоция и ролята му в изграждането на личността

Гневът като основна емоция и ролята му в изграждането на личността

Author(s): Nelly Koleva,Hristina Frunova,Mario Hristov,Kamena Stoiceva,Aleksa Petrova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2023

Anger is one of the most discussed emotions, due to the difficulties in detecting its emergence during the development of the individual. Behaviors accompanied by anger and rage serve many different purposes and nuances of aggressive behavior. Recent advances in neuroscientific and developmental psychology research, as well as clinical psychodynamic research, allow new insight into the role of anger and its direction in many aspects of human behavior. The so-called affective neurosciences show the phylogenetic origins of both circuits underlying the emergence of anger, along with its evolutionary role in promoting survival. The basis of this theory is the psychodynamic theory of motivational systems, which assigns a dual role to anger: on the one hand, this affect is an inward-directed signal to overcome an obstacle or an unpleasant situation; on the other hand, anger is also a communicative signal directed outwards establishing conflict in interpersonal relations and emotional connections. Our studies of specific human behavior demonstrate the evaluation of such signals by higher cortical functions, and there is no doubt that the meaning that guides individual behavior is ultimately interpreted at the social and cultural level.

Ефекти на психологическа устойчивост върху учащите

Ефекти на психологическа устойчивост върху учащите

Author(s): Nelly Koleva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2023

Psychological resistance is a person's ability to resist and deal with difficulties. People have this power in difficult situations. Even the stress experienced can be turned into personal gain. It has been observed that as a result of the experienced situations, people may increase their psychological resistance or lose this ability. Research on college students confirms these claims. Young people with a healthy psyche in the learning process very easily manage their stress. In the event of a dispute or conflict, they exhibit very calm and correct behavior. They do not allow the sources of stress to exhaust them and reduce their responsibility to society, they tend to recover faster and return to their normal way of life.

Интерсубективността – интегрален функционален център на комуникационната система

Author(s): Radostina Mihailova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2023

In the social system - unlike that of inanimate nature, the direction of development is governed by volitional choice, which is a strictly subjective quantity. This necessitates the conclusion about the leading role of the personal factor for integrity and its evolution. The article discusses the hypothesis that the Self of the interpreter is the integral socio-cultural-psychological construct and center that determines and enforces the meanings and norms of functioning in the communication system. In other words, it will show the way in which the personality of the user organizes and determines the systemic purposefulness in the communication act.

Зависимости на темперамента и желанието на личността за обучение по метода на съвременна образователната технология

Author(s): Tsvetan Petkov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2023

The traditional method of teaching has undergone tremendous changes in the past few years, leading to a rethinking of educational technology. The successful use of educational technology in online higher education rests entirely in the hands of both the faculty and their students. If both groups use it effectively as a tool, there is the potential for their users to achieve the main goal of providing students with the necessary competitiveness of knowledge, skills and competencies. The study of the dependence of temperament and students' desire for online learning for both types of temperament (extroversion and introversion) resulted in a positive correlation that confirms the accepted hypothesis.

Determinants of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Syrian Refugees living in Turkey's four cities

Determinants of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Syrian Refugees living in Turkey's four cities

Author(s): Alime Sönmez Tombak / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Circumstances of forced migrations are associated with increased post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Research indicates that Syrian refugees are highly vulnerable and likely to experience various mental diseases due to forced migration and warrelated traumatic events. Also, there are geographical-based differences in the psychological stress outcomes of refugees. The objective of the research is to examine the differences in self-reported PTSD due to circumstances of forced migration among Syrian refugees living in Turkey (N=777 respondents) by their living city. To explore which group of factors had the most significant influence on PTSD, I conducted multiple logistic regression analyses for 777 respondents. Considering logistic analysis results, self-reporting post-traumatic stress is more common among Syrian refugees who live in large cities (İstanbul/İzmir) and Syrian border conservative cities (Şanlıurfa), have poorer self-expressed health status, experience war-related situations, feel unsafe in their neighbourhood and receive less support from their families when faced with problems. These findings point to the importance of assessing self-reported PTSD due to the circumstances of refugees. Furthermore, these results show that refugees feel the burden of the experiences they carry differently.

Finding Satoyama – Forest bathing as a creative practice of knowledge creation and healing in/with/through damaged landscapes

Author(s): Wendy Wuyts / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

Many people in the Western world are estranged from the more-than-human world, which negatively impacts their health and well-being. This article investigates the effect of forest bathing as an intervention on how designers and other citizens can reconnect with nature. Walking, talking, and sitting spot practices are not only research methods that help to understand the histories and interdependencies of a landscape and contribute to society and science, but can also be used as mental health promotion tools to generate self-care, especially when dealing with the experience of wounds through the inner and outer landscapes in which we engage. This article is based on an extensive review of a multidisciplinary body of literature. Although mainly conceptual, this article is empirically informed and illustrated by my experiences in Japan. By sharing an autoethnography of experiencing a Japanese landscape through five walks along the same trail over 1.5 years while exploring the deepening journey into the forest bathing practice, this article illustrates the opportunities and benefits of deploying forest bathing in landscape architecture and other regional and urban planning interventions. It also examines the concept of self-care and environmental citizenship and how they emerge in the forest bathing practice.

Influences of Social Media on Omani Youth’s Health

Influences of Social Media on Omani Youth’s Health

Author(s): Subrahmanian Muthuraman / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2024

The study focused on the influences of social media on Omani Youth and their lifestyle. The challenges associated with social media may be especially risky for young people who are already experiencing mental health difficulties, as suggested by the bidirectional relationship between the use of electronic media and a decrease in psychological well-being. Social media causes depression and anxiety from stress. Depression and emotional instability are some of the main psychological problems shown in many youths. There is a need for public awareness campaigns and social policy initiatives that promote nurturing home and school environments that foster resilience as youth navigate the challenges of adolescence in today’s world. The youth should avoid excessive use of social media. They should be balanced in their life and give proper time to other activities that will help them to develop their capabilities.

Author(s): Islam Shukri Abdul Aziz Al-Momani,Faisal Khalif Al-Sharaa,Abrar Youssef Abu Anza,Esra’ Mohammad Mustfa Khamis / Language(s): English Issue: 7/2024

The study aimed to identify the degree of fear of losing the phone (Nomophobia) among students with visual impairment enrolled in Jordanian universities. In contrast, the study consisted of (300) male and female students with visual impairment enrolled in Jordanian public universities. To achieve the objectives of this study, the researchers used the nomophobia scale; the results showed that the prevalence of Nomophobia among Jordanian university students with visual impairment was high. The research found a substantial dependence on mobile phones, with an average score of 3.70, suggesting a high level of anxiety regarding the potential loss of phone connectivity. Anxiety feelings were recorded when people's ability to communicate with loved ones was interrupted; the highest reported score was 4.40. When looking at gender, academic year, and degree, there were noticeable variances. The average Nomophobia score was 3.98 for females and 4.00 for males; the most significant levels were seen among first-year students. Students with visual impairments may be more or less dependent on mobile technology, depending on their level of education; students with a diploma or less had the most significant levels of Nomophobia (average score: 3.97).

Impact of Mental Health on Academic Performance: A Study on the Risk of Failure in Higher Education

Impact of Mental Health on Academic Performance: A Study on the Risk of Failure in Higher Education

Author(s): Juan Inquilla-Mamani,German Belizario Quispe,Fermín Francisco Chaiña-Chura,Emilio Flores-Mamani,Jorge Apaza-Ticona,Duverly Joao Incacutipa-Limachi / Language(s): English Issue: 7/2024

Building healthy spaces and adequate mental health in the university context is of vital importance for optimal, quality and warm academic development, both for students and teachers. The purpose of the research is to determine the state of mental health of students as a risk factor for academic failure in higher education. For the methodological procedure, the “GHQ-28 Mental Health Assessment Scale and Questionnaire” was applied and a socio-educational form was used to measure academic performance. The level of mental health of students was estimated by applying the principal component factor analysis (PCA). To determine the variance of the factor analysis, Bartlett's sphericity test was used, then the factorization process was carried out by the PCA method with a varimax rotation. They were selected for the sample by the simple random method, resulting in a total of 212 cases. The results obtained revealed that the “mental health status” variable has a significant effect on academic risk, with an estimated coefficient of -0.0878 and an associated pvalue of 0.014. This indicates that as the mental health status of students decreases, an increase in the probability of repeating the academic semester is observed.

Личността в организационна среда: полово-ролеви диференциации. Комуникативен аспект на функциониране на личността в организационна среда

Author(s): Tsvetan Petkov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2024

O. S. Vihanski and A. I. Naumov explain the concept of „strategy”, within the framework of the so-called strategic management, define this concept as „... a long-term, qualitatively determined direction for the development of the organization in the spheres affecting it, in the means and forms of activity, a system of relationships within the organization, as well as the organization's place in the environment. The strategy also answers the question of how, through what actions the organization will be able to achieve its goals...”. This assumption is the most accurate and lies in determining the manager's personal management strategy. In this report, we will look at communication anxiety in detail.

Личността в организационна среда: полово-ролеви диференциации. Удовлетвореност от трудовата дейност

Author(s): Tsvetan Petkov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2024

Job satisfaction is a complex mental process. It is an expression of people's attitude to work, on the one hand, and on the other hand, it gives us complete information about the activities in the organization. Only employees who are satisfied with their work are able to give their best for the proper functioning of the organization and for it to become a part of their lives, which will make them stay in it for a long time.

Изследване нивото на бърнаут при учители работещи с деца със специални образователни потребности

Author(s): Kremena Gavazova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2024

The basis of this research is the urgent need to increase the number of studies of occupational stress and its varieties in an organization of specialists working with children with special educational needs. The empirical research carried out in our country on the presence of a developed „burnout syndrome” among teachers working with children with disabilities has a positive character. The purpose of the research is to establish the levels of stress and mental resilience of teachers, the negative effects and impact of this phenomenon on their behavior and work ability, on efficiency and the organization as a whole. The results indicate the need for further research involving the analysis of staff satisfaction over a period of time in order to achieve an objective and value analysis and outcome in relation to the management of burnout syndrome.

HIERARCHIE ET MODELISATION: OU LA COMPLEXITE APPORTE SON LOT D’IMPREVISIBILITES

Author(s): Stéphane Fotis ROUME / Language(s): French Issue: 1/2023

Any crisis pushes us to conceive a situation, an entity, a general system. Conceiving requires understanding an entity (community, individual or any other entity) composed of entities that constitute it, by articulating each other mutually. One then hierarchises these different elements, and depending on the direction of the hierarchy, we perceive either a relationship of domination/submission, either the emergence of something new, unpredictable. This unpredictability is one of the characteristics of complexity. When we design, when we model, this complexity must be taken into account in order not to lose an essential element of any general system: meaning.

"GENERATION ME". THE GENESIS OF GENERATION AND ITS IMPACT ON SOCIETY

"GENERATION ME". THE GENESIS OF GENERATION AND ITS IMPACT ON SOCIETY

Author(s): Samira Cîrlig / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

The self – centered generation or "Generation Me" (Twenge, 2014b) comprises young people who were born between 1980 and 2000. In the literature they are known as the 'Snowflake Generation' (Fox, 2016), 'Millennials' or 'Generation Y'. They are characterised by their overdeveloped egos, increased tendency of loneliness and propensity to develop new fears. In my paper I set out to find out "what causes have led to the genesis of this generation". To do this, I will first present some statistical data that I consider relevant because they show the importance of the subject studied. Then I will identify the causes that led to the emergence of this generation. I will classify these causes into two broad categories, primary and secondary, according to the importance that the studies consulted say they have in the psycho-socio-emotional development of these young people. The primary causes include the three basic institutions of any society, namely the family, the school and the Church, which are responsible for the educational process of young people. We have added to these three factors the time spent in front of a screen, be it a TV, laptop or phone, because the socio-historical context has given it particular importance. Then I will discuss the secondary causes.

Using latent class analysis to identify different clinical profiles according to food addiction symptoms in obesity with and without binge eating disorder

Using latent class analysis to identify different clinical profiles according to food addiction symptoms in obesity with and without binge eating disorder

Author(s): MATTEO ALOI,MARCO TULLIO LIUZZA,MARIANNA RANIA,ELVIRA ANNA CARBONE,Renato de Filippis,Ashley Gearhardt,CRISTINA SEGURA-GARCIA / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Background and aims: Existing research suggests that food addiction (FA) is associated with binge eating disorder (BED) and obesity, but the clinical significance of this relationship remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the different clinical profiles of FA symptoms among patients who have obesity with/without BED using latent class analysis (LCA). Methods: 307 patients (n 5 152 obesity and BED, n 5 155 obesity without BED) completed a battery of self-report measures investigating eating psychopathology, depression, emotional dysregulation, alexithymia, schema domains, and FA. LCA and ANOVAs were conducted to identify profiles according to FA symptoms and examine differences between classes. Results: LCA identified five meaningful classes labeled as the “non-addicted” (40.4%), the “attempters” (20.2%), the “interpersonal problems” (7.2%), the “high-functioning addicted” (19.5%) and the “fully addicted” (12.7%) classes. Patients with BED and obesity appeared overrepresented in the “high-functioning addicted” and “fully addicted” classes; conversely, patients with obesity without BED were most frequently included in the “non-addicted” class. The most significant differences between the “high-functioning addicted” and “fully addicted” classes versus the “non-addicted” class regarded heightened severity of eating and general psychopathology. Discussion and conclusions: The results bring to light distinct clinical profiles based on FA symptoms. Notably, the "high-functioning addicted" class is particularly intriguing as its members demonstrate physical symptoms of FA (i.e., tolerance and withdrawal) and psychological ones (i.e., craving and consequences) but are not as functionally impaired as the “fully addicted” class. Identifying different profiles according to FA symptoms holds potential value in providing tailored and timely interventions.
