Summary/Abstract: The self – centered generation or "Generation Me" (Twenge, 2014b) comprises young people who were born between 1980 and 2000. In the literature they are known as the 'Snowflake Generation' (Fox, 2016), 'Millennials' or 'Generation Y'. They are characterised by their overdeveloped egos, increased tendency of loneliness and propensity to develop new fears. In my paper I set out to find out "what causes have led to the genesis of this generation". To do this, I will first present some statistical data that I consider relevant because they show the importance of the subject studied. Then I will identify the causes that led to the emergence of this generation. I will classify these causes into two broad categories, primary and secondary, according to the importance that the studies consulted say they have in the psycho-socio-emotional development of these young people. The primary causes include the three basic institutions of any society, namely the family, the school and the Church, which are responsible for the educational process of young people. We have added to these three factors the time spent in front of a screen, be it a TV, laptop or phone, because the socio-historical context has given it particular importance. Then I will discuss the secondary causes.
