(Dy)fuzje. Związki literatury i sztuki w Polsce po 1945 roku

Author(s): Tomasz Bocheński,Magdalena Lachman,Paweł Polit,Michalina Kmiecik,Daniel Muzyczuk,Andrzej Niewiadomski,Dariusz Pachocki,Agnieszka Rejniak-Majewska,Paweł Stangret,Justyna Staroń,Anna Śliwa,Beata Śniecikowska,Aleksander Wójtowicz,Tomasz Załuski / Language(s): Polish / Publication Year: 2019

The publication is the result of a project implemented at the Łódź Museum of Art in cooperation with the University of Łódź Department of the 20th- and 21st-Century Literature. The case-study research focused on the phenomena that indicated artists' attachment to different variants of the avant-garde principle of the integration of arts. They also emphasized the convergence of artists' aspirations in Poland after 1945 in various sociopolitical, institutional and even social contexts. The book deals with alliances and analogies within visual arts and literature – both beyond their traditionally obeyed formulas, and within conventionally respected and honoured limits. The authors of the collected texts try to capture the reciprocity of artistic stimulation in the dissemination of specific ideas, and at the same time they are interested in positional and paradigmatic shifts in the perception of seemingly well-known issues; in other words, in everything that lies in the semantic potential of the title “(dif)fusion”.“This volume has a distinct innovative trait – both at the level of discovering and revealing new ideas (where phenomena subjected to little or no research are examined) and in the area of repetition (where discussion covers decently researched topics). [...] There is also, so to speak, a cognitive section in it. On the one hand, there are contributions to the work of very famous and well-known artists (Białoszewski, Brzozowski, Buczkowski, Czycz, Haupt, Kantor, Peiper, Strzemiński, Themerson), while on the other we receive competent texts devoted to artists and phenomena that are less popular or virtually unknown (Bruszewski, Dłużniewski, Kryszkowski, Partum or underground art magazines – artzines). Inevitably, these first contributions require engaging in a kind of agon with antecedent research, while the latter constitute an intellectual novelty somewhat in and of itself. This combination seems very refreshing for the message of the entire publication.” From the review by dr hab. Piotr Łuszczykiewicz, prof. UAM

90 lat łódzkiej ekonomii

Author(s): Czesław Domański,Witold Kasperkiewicz,Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski / Language(s): Polish / Publication Year: 2018

The beginnings of economics in Łódź date back to the 1860s, when the first financial and economic institutions were founded. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, economic knowledge was popularized in the so-called everyman’s universities, where lectures were given by leading economists and economic historians such as Natalia Gąsiorowska-Grabowiecka, Michał Hertz and Stanisław Koszutski. Michał Kalecki, Edward Rosset, Leszek Kirkien, Mieczysław Kołtoński and Edward Grabowski published their first articles in local magazines. In the interwar years, the first private colleges were founded in Łódź, including the University of Social Sciences and Economics (1924-1928) and the Free Polish University (1928-1939). The activities of economic and financial institutions, such as the Stock Exchange, the City of Łódź Credit Society, and the Department of Statistics of the City of Łódź also had a significant impact on the consolidation of the economic environment. The industrial, commercial, scientific, didactic and organizational ventures presented in the publication have contributed to the comprehensive development of economic sciences at the University of Łódź and translated into achievements that have become known both locally and internationally.

Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Linguistica Rossica

Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Linguistica Rossica

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

The idea of creating the periodical Folia Linguistica Rossica originated in the Department of Linguistics in the Russian Studies Institute a long time ago. The project of initiating the periodical had frequently been discussed during the meetings held at the Institute. The magazine was created as a result of the generous support of the Philological Faculty Council and approval of the Publishing Council of the University of Łódź. There is a genuine need for a board presentation of the research programs of the department, which has gradually been developing with respect to its staff, organization, teaching, as well as research. It should be noted that in the 2000/2001 academic year two types of studies enriched the Russian Studies Institute: to the standard five-year program of studies were added extramural and day-time two-degree studies with elements of Ukrainian studies. The periodical will specialize in Russian linguistics. Historical, contemporary, as well as comparative approaches will be represented. Research programs covering Polish-East Slavic linguistic borderland, as well as materials to the methodology and university didactic procedures will be presented. Articles, reviews and reports will be accepted for publication. The possibility of publishing dissertations or separate monographic works and post-conference materials will be considered. The texts will appear in both Russian and Polish. The aim of the periodical is to encourage integration and initiative in undertaking studies in the field of Russian philology and, more broadly, East Slavic philologies. The periodical will welcome contributions from foreign Slavic studies centers, with which the Russian Linguistics Department has long been cooperating. This will ensure exchange of publications, e.g. between the department in Łódź and the Department of History of the Russian Language and Linguistics at the University of Kazan and the Institute of Slavic Studies in Giessen.

Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Litteraria Rossica

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

The magazine "Folia Litteraria Rossica" from the series "Acta Universitatis Lodziensis" has been revived after a ten-year break. In the last four years (2010-2013) there were published three issues of the magazine (in order of continuous - 3, 4, 5, 6). All materials are reviewed. Publications in Russian dominate. The composition of the Scientific Editor, Scientific Council, as well as Reviewers group is international. Each issue has three sections: Articles, Reviews, and Reports. Foreword "From the Editor" contains information for readers and prospective authors about the planned theme in the next number. On the last page of each issue is given the content of the previous number (table of contents). "Folia Litteraria Rossica" publishes articles on Russian literature and culture, as well as on issues of translating specific artistic texts; provides its columns for specialists in Russian studies from different research centers in the country and abroad; the editors also occasionally include topics of wider Slavic. The number of researchers collaborating with the magazine continues to increase, and among them the are representatives of major universities from Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Belarus. We cooperate with the Institute of Slavic Studies in Giessen and the Department of Theory of Literature Twersky State University. In terms of subject matter the first two issues of the magazine are varied; articles are mainly of Russian literature, the authors consider general issues from different periods of its development - from the eighteenth century to our contemporary times. The numbers 5 and 6 have a monographic character and bears the title “Знаки обращения к литературной традиции в творчестве классиков и современных авторов” / “References to literary tradition in the works of classic and contemporary authors”. The publication of tha monograph was made possible thanks to the considerable number of authors whose editor was able to enlist within three years of operation. The topic has been proposed in the previous issue of the journal, and aroused great interest of researchers. Therefore, the next numbers will also have a monographic character, and the articles will be subject to the title, which would include references to the literary tradition in the analysed works.

Advances in Contemplative Social Research

Author(s): Krzysztof T. Konecki / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 2018

This book is unique and audacious, and fits very well with current tendencies within qualitative research. It introduces new, fresh threads to questions and concerns that are highly significant for contemporary social sciences. The formulated conclusions go beyond directly methodological issues, posing key philosophical questions to the whole project of Western sociology.Grażyna WoronieckaFrom the review of the bookDeep contemplation of the situation could be the epistemological choice for social scientists. It is a fundamentally different approach to the research, where the investigator is researching the object but also the situation of research and her-self/him-self. Contemplating is a dual way of the approaching the truth. It does not mean that the researcher is mentally divided; just the opposite, she/he wants to be complete and achieve the unity of being as a researcher-human being and an element of the situation (psycho-social and historical). Contemplating enables researchers to see how the mind works and creates the images and reports from the field – what is available for the mind and what is silent or repressed because of the dominating rhetoric of description and rhetoric of feeling?... Contemplation is not only analysis, it is also an ethical choice of stopping here and now to see the situation clearly and reporting it with the all reservations that could be the result of the mindfully-observed interaction of mind, self, and situation at one historical moment. From the Introduction
