Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Linguistica Rossica

Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Linguistica Rossica

Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Linguistica Rossica

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

The idea of creating the periodical Folia Linguistica Rossica originated in the Department of Linguistics in the Russian Studies Institute a long time ago. The project of initiating the periodical had frequently been discussed during the meetings held at the Institute. The magazine was created as a result of the generous support of the Philological Faculty Council and approval of the Publishing Council of the University of Łódź. There is a genuine need for a board presentation of the research programs of the department, which has gradually been developing with respect to its staff, organization, teaching, as well as research. It should be noted that in the 2000/2001 academic year two types of studies enriched the Russian Studies Institute: to the standard five-year program of studies were added extramural and day-time two-degree studies with elements of Ukrainian studies. The periodical will specialize in Russian linguistics. Historical, contemporary, as well as comparative approaches will be represented. Research programs covering Polish-East Slavic linguistic borderland, as well as materials to the methodology and university didactic procedures will be presented. Articles, reviews and reports will be accepted for publication. The possibility of publishing dissertations or separate monographic works and post-conference materials will be considered. The texts will appear in both Russian and Polish. The aim of the periodical is to encourage integration and initiative in undertaking studies in the field of Russian philology and, more broadly, East Slavic philologies. The periodical will welcome contributions from foreign Slavic studies centers, with which the Russian Linguistics Department has long been cooperating. This will ensure exchange of publications, e.g. between the department in Łódź and the Department of History of the Russian Language and Linguistics at the University of Kazan and the Institute of Slavic Studies in Giessen.

International Studies: Interdisciplinary Political and Cultural Journal (IS)

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Poland

International Studies: Interdisciplinary Political and Cultural Journal (IS) is a learned journal devoted to political and cultural studies in the international context. We hope that all scholars specializing in these fields will find our journal a valuable resource, and that it will also have a broader appeal to academics working in such areas as social studies as  well as international relations.  It is one of the first journals of this kind, not only in Poland but in Central and Eastern Europe, but its scope is not limited to the region; on the contrary, we aim at  bringing  to our readers the most interesting perspectives and voices of opinion about current global issues and the most topical and innovative research in the area of international, cultural and political  studies. That is why the IS publishes essays that vary in focus and methodology. In pursuit of the goal of continued excellence, we have inevitably been dependent on the contributions of our colleagues working in other disciplines, such as philosophy, literature or anthropology.

The IS has generated a worldwide interest, and we have received good quality submissions from all over the world. We collect and publish articles to special thematic issues, but we also accept proposals which are not connected with our current call for papers. While editing most of such non-thematic issues, the operation of singling out articles form the pool of submissions has unfailingly revealed some surprising connections, which in another age might have elicited a Baudelairean awe of correspondence.

The journal’s content consists of two permanent parts: "Articles" and "Book Reviews," but we also welcome the readers’ comments and observations in the form of "Letters to the Editor" which present responses to the articles published in the IS. We hope that more contributions will also come, less formally, in the form of ideas for special issues or new features, along with information about new work, exciting new methodologies, and conference announcements, defined as broadly as possible. We are eager for such suggestions and wholeheartedly invite all our prospective contributors and readers to give us the benefit of his/her creative thinking about the future of our journal.

Urban Knowledge Conversatory

Urban Knowledge Conversatory

Konwersatorium Wiedzy o Mieście

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

Konwersatorium Wiedzy o Mieście (Urban Knowledge Conversatory)  is a journal whose origins date back to the 1980s when the publishing series of the same title began to appear. The following monographs in this series were the result of the annual urban conferences inaugurated over 30 years ago by prof. Stanisław Liszewski, which was attended by the most outstanding geographers, sociologists, economists, architects and urban planners from all academic centres in Poland as well as from abroad.

The title of the journal is a brand recognisable among researchers of cities and regions. A large number of citations of published articles confirms its wide reception in the scientific community.

In 2016, the publishing series was transformed into the journal Konwersatorium Wiedzy o Mieście, which, as a continuation of the previous series, will appear in the form of a yearbook.

Aims and Scope

Konwersatorium Wiedzy o Mieście  is an interdisciplinary scientific journal. It is one of the few publications in Poland intended for researchers representing a variety of disciplines and dealing with urban issues, first of all for geographers, economists, sociologists, architects and urban planners and other representatives of social sciences. Published papers are theoretical, review, empirical and methodological. The journal mostly presents the findings of the latest empirical studies on contemporary phenomena regarding a wide range of urban studies in Poland and other CEE countries, including their local specificity and local context.

The journal presents only texts which have not been published anywhere before: theoretical, research, review papers and scientific notes, containing partial findings of original empirical research, as well as reviews, reports and contributions to debates.

Power of Judgment

Power of Judgment

Władza Sądzenia

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Poland

Academic journal “Power of Judgment” is initiated because of necessity of regular and effective exchange of reflections in the field of politics and morality. To define more precisely our intentions, we are interested in sociological reflection on phenomenon of the political, both in empirical and in theoretical dimension. Such as obliging title implicates our publishing profile, we wish to publish analyses, studies, reports and essays monitoring, demystifying and deconstructing the mechanisms of materialization and reproduction of power. The Kantian tradition of defining the power of judgment as autonomic, a priori legislative, accompanying to all forms of cognition seems to be the most proper to define the primary idea of our journal. We believe that power, wherever constituted and however defined, mainly petrifies organization of social life, and sociology cannot be conducted without maximally wide approach to the phenomenon of power.

Scope

Our goal, as editors of the “Power of Judgment”, is to widen the range of empirical analyses, of both qualitative and quantitative character, concerning the phenomenon of the political. At the same time we expect theoretical studies, presenting conceptual apparatus helping to understand changes occurring in the field of political. Convinced about the need for interdisciplinary study on the phenomenon of power, we invite academics writing on sociology, psychology, sociobiology, anthropology, ethnography, managements studies, demographics, philosophy and others.

Moreover, as editors, we stress that our main intention is development of sociology of politics. That is why in the first place we welcome papers rooted in current sociological tradition, or those that would argue with it, question its utility or point out necessity of working out new research tools to practice internalization, naturalization and universalization of govern and management. In other words, we expect papers, revealing the political both in public and private spheres, dispersing in subpolitical formulas, but also rooted in traditional approaches, concerning both individuals and communities, influencing the body, and managing public sentiments.

We would like the “Power of Judgment” academic journal to become the space for open and critical exchange of opinions. Popularization of sociology of politics as an academic discipline and reflection and research into this field are crucial for the editors. That is why we decided publishing electronic open access magazine. It will be free of charge and its contents will be accessible in full as a PDF file.
