Annales Universitatis Paedagogicae Cracoviensis. Studia Sociologica

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Poland

The birth and then successive enlargement of the European Union generated not only a new economic area filled with a network of economic relations, but a new, or at least – significantly changed – socio-cultural environment filled with emerging social networks. This important and lasting process becomes a serious challenge for social science researchers. The editors of ‘Studia Sociologica’ believe that they are obliged and predestined to face the challenge because of the fact that they are located at the Pedagogical University of Cracow – in a country and in the city located at the borderland between the East and West as well as North and South of Europe. Such a location is not only an excellent observatory point of the influences, trends and their crisscrossing impacts in this region, but also a good location to coordinate the efforts and research conducted by academics following and analyzing these phenomena. This is why we have decided to open our door and create an opportunity for constant exchange of experiences between researchers in our journal. The broad scope and variety of topics relating to the phenomena, processes and trends emerging in the new socio-cultural European area enable us to envisage long-lasting research and publishing plans. It makes us use English as a tool for communication between thinkers and researchers from various countries and research institutions and to monitor their efforts through an international advisory board. Hence, ‘Studia Sociologica’ has become an international journal involving analyses and research papers written by academics from various institutions. We would like to invite all of those who are interested in the new phenomena and processes emerging within the European social and cultural area for cooperation in paper contributions and critical reading.

Studia de Arte et Educatione

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

“Annales Universitatis Pedagogicae Cracoviensis. Studia de Arte et Educatione”, the Journal of the Faculty of Art of the Pedagogical University of Krakow, has been published by the Pedagogical University Press since 2005 as a peer-reviewed journal. Since 2011 it has been listed on the Ministerial list of rated academic magazines (4 points since 2013, 7 points since 2015). The international Editorial Board includes artists and researchers from Poland, Lithuania, Greece, Slovakia, the US, and Great Britain.

The journal favours interdisciplinarity, featuring texts in Polish and English on arts and other fields of the humanities. The journal’s main goal is to publish innovative research in the most relevant issues of art, primarily contemporary art, both traditional and new media-related, in the context of education. Articles in the journal address also problems of aesthetics and philosophy, literature, and broadly understood culture.

Each journal issue is focused on a particular topic. The first three issues addressed the most fundamental aspects that arise from the merging of art and education. The fourth issue was focused on the work of artists-teachers who operate in a variety of fields and disciplines of art (using their practical knowledge and experience). The next two issues addressed the question of the relationship between word and image and the use of this relationship in education, as well as the possibility of treating art works as statements. Featured texts concentrated on the ways to analyse and interpret art, addressed historical contexts and recent changes. The next, extended issue focused on the issue of identity – identity of art disciplines and of artworks, as well as identity of collectives and individuals, which are problems that provoke controversies in the era of “fluid” postmodernism and pose a challenge for artists and teachers. Another issue offered a reflection on the diversity of media used in art and teaching to address the problem of boundaries of disciplines in the context of new programmes at the Faculty of Art – Digital Design and Art and Media. A subsequent issue was a presentation of Polish artists who teach art and engage in cultural animation, which was related to the Faculty’s new programme in Cultural Animation, considering also the need for personal models for teachers and students as an essence of education process. Another issue focused on controversial terms, notions, and art practices within the recent examples of critical and socially engaged art and artworks in public space, a field that provides inspiration as well as challenges for objective assessment and teaching. The next issue addressed the treatment of artworks as cognitive tools, considering the problem of identity of art disciplines and works, posing controversial questions concerning art and philosophy, with the reference to the visual turn and cognitivism. The latest issue discussed visual culture as a discursive element of public space, addressing problems of socially engaged art.

The journal’s editorial team includes: Editor-in-chief, Professor Rafał Solewski (art historian and literary scholar), member of editorial board Professor Stanisław Sobolewski (painter and Polish literature scholar), secretary Dr. Bernadeta Stano (art historian and graduate of Artistic Education). Each issue is guest-edited by Faculty members as well as doctoral candidates. The journal publishes papers by artists and researchers from other faculties and universities. The journal works as a platform that brings together a variety of perspectives offered by researchers working in diverse fields and disciplines.

Youth in Central and Eastern Europe

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Poland

This periodical was established by researchers concerned with problems affecting young people in Central and Eastern Europe. Its main aim is to bring together specialists dealing with different aspects of the functioning of young people in society. The articles to be published will address youth issues from both macro- and microsocial perspectives. We will publish texts which will focus on young people using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Texts may have a theoretical and / or practical character. We welcome submissions from younger as well as more experienced researchers. The periodical is open to anybody who has interesting and original contributions to make regarding young people and associated social problems.

We take the view that young people from this part of Europe face particular social problems. The collapse of the USSR and the creation of new countries, and the consequent emergence of violent and profound transformational processes, has had widespread social repercussions. Modernisation and globalisation have affected the newly independent countries of the former Eastern Bloc. Young people are subject to these processes, and as we carry out detailed observations of this group, we gain an insight into how society is changing. Our intention is to gather data and make it accessible to all parties who are interested in issues affecting young people, in particular in this part of Europe. Once again, we welcome all parties willing to participate in the process of accumulating information about young people in society and extending the boundaries of our knowledge in this area. We keenly anticipate your readership and contributions.
