Child Trafficking Among Vulnerable Groups: Country Report Bulgaria

The current report looks at three specific forms of trafficking in persons: child trafficking for begging, for pickpocketing and for sexual exploitation of boys and the way they manifest themselves among Roma communities. The report examines the profiles of victims and discusses the vulnerability factors that make the Roma minority a particular group at risk. The study provides empirical knowledge on the mechanisms of recruitment and exploitation of victims in order to inform identification efforts and counter-trafficking responses. Particular attention is devoted to the policy and measures for assistance of victims. In this field, the report identifies specific gaps in assistance and the way they affect Roma victims in particular, and suggests how child victim assistance could be improved. The active involvement of Roma organisations in the research through participatory methods aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the risk factors involved, bring knowledge back to the communities and support Roma experts’ involvement in counter-trafficking policy and mechanisms.

Socio-Economic Effects of Public Investments for Roma Inclusion in Kavarna

The aim of the current report is to provide new data and insight on the social and economic effects of public investments in Roma communities from a human development perspective. Its objective is to establish the effects of a wide range of public investments made by Kavarna municipality in the mostly-Roma neighbourhood of Hadji Dimitar, between 2004 and 2014. The investment covered areas such as housing and infrastructure, healthcare, employment, income, poverty and social exclusion, justice and crime, and political participation. It reviews a range of indicators with the aim of establishing the effects of these investments on the social and economic development of the neighbourhood and its residents, both Roma and non-Roma. It also looks beyond the neighbourhood to provide a comparative perspective on a national level. The data presented here is derived from a variety of sources and covers a range of indicators. Every effort has been made to ensure the use of similar indicators and definitions as previous household surveys, notably the UNDP/FRA study, and the NSI, however, the results are not directly comparable due to the difference in survey methodologies, samples and scope. The data presented should be taken as an indication of trends and tendencies. The lack of concrete data on the initial investments, the inputs and relevant baseline indicators has also challenged the quantifying of the contribution of individual public investments. Different investments have had different impact on the development of the neighbourhood and reducing the distances with the Bulgarian residents. This impact has been established by looking at the results obtained from a specialised household survey conducted among 300 Roma and non-Roma households in the Hadji Dimitar quarter of Kavarna in 2015. The relevance and impact of these changes is analysed through comparison with the national averages for the whole population and the averages for Roma nationally. It is also measured against the investments to establish a positive correlation between the effect and the investment where such data exists.

Landscapes of Diseas. Malaria in Modern Greece

Malaria has existed in Greece since prehistoric times. Its prevalence fluctuated depending on climatic, socioeconomic and political changes. The book focuses on the factors that contributed to the spreading of the disease in the years between independent statehood in 1830 and the elimination of malaria in the 1970s.By the nineteenth century, Greece was the most malarious country in Europe and the one most heavily infected with its lethal form, falciparum malaria. Owing to pressures on the environment from economic development, agrarian colonization and heightened mobility, the situation became so serious that malaria became a routine part of everyday life for practically all Greek families, further exacerbated by wars. The country’s highly fragmented geography and its variable rainfall distribution created an environment that was ideal for sustaining and spreading of diseases, which, in turn, affected the tolerance of the population to malaria. In their struggle with physical suffering and death, the Greeks developed a culture of avid quinine consumption and were likewise eager to embrace the DDT spraying campaign of the immediate post WW II years, which, overall, had a positive demographic effect.

Along Ukraine's River. A Social and Environmental History of the Dnipro

The River Dnipro (formerly better known by the Russian name of Dnieper) is intimately linked to the history and identity of Ukraine. Cybriwsky discusses the history of the river, from when it was formed and its many uses and modifications by human agencies from ancient times to the present.From key vantage points along the river’s course—its source in western Russia, through Belarus and Ukraine, to the Black Sea—interesting stories shed light on past and present life in Ukraine. Scenes set along the river from Russian and Ukrainian literature are evoked, as well as musical compositions and works of art. Topics include the legacy of the region’s cultural ancestors as the Kyivan Rus, the period of Cossack dominion, the epic battles for the river’s bridges in World War II, the building of dams and huge reservoirs by the Soviet Union, and the crisis of Chornobyl (Chernobyl). The author argues that the Dnipro and the farmlands along it are Ukraine’s chief natural resources, and that the country's future depends on putting both to good use.Written without academic pretence in an informal style with dashes of humor, Along Ukraine's River is illustrated with original line drawings, maps, and photographs.

To opowieść o różnych poziomach przyjmowania perspektywy: od tych podstawowych, automatycznych wyznaczonych cielesnością (jak mimikra i naśladowanie), poprzez te wymagające namysłu i refleksyjności.Tytuł Z drugiej strony góry… nawiązuje do jednego z najbardziej znaczących odkryć dotyczących rozwoju poznawczego – zjawiska decentracji opisanego przez Jeana Piageta. Bez niego ta opowieść nie byłaby możliwa.Anna Szuster, profesor psychologii, kierownik Katedry Psychologii Społecznej na Wydziale Psychologii Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. Od wielu lat prowadzi badania nad uwarunkowaniami motywacji i zachowań prospołecznych. INTYMNOŚĆ CENZUROWANA

Książka jest analizą paniki moralnej wzniecanej wokół rodziny. Bez względu na to, czy chodzi o in vitro, edukację seksualną, związki partnerskie czy konwencję antyprzemocową – przy próbach regulacji wszelkich kwestii związanych z rodziną, płcią i seksualnością obserwujemy mobilizację przeciwników tych działań. Ich koronnym argumentem jest, że doprowadzą one do sytuacji pozwalającej wychowywać dzieci przez osoby homoseksualne. W tym kontekście na szczególną uwagę zasługują te obszary życia rodzinnego, które wykraczają poza większościową heteronormatywność, nadto zaś analizy wymaga owa panika moralna wokół nich. Jest to bowiem panika rozumiana metaforycznie, ale jej skutki są jak najbardziej realne. Uwzględniając historyczno-antropologiczne zróżnicowanie rodziny, implikacje rewolucji obyczajowej ostatnich kilkudziesięciu lat oraz współczesne wzory relacji rodzinnych, odtworzony został dyskurs medialny dotyczący rodzin nieheteronormatywnych w naszym kraju. Dyskurs ten przyjmuje postać paniki moralnej typu transformacyjnego, a więc takiego, który ma potencjał zmiany normatywnej w społeczeństwie.

Stosowaną psychologię rehabilitacji wyróżnia autorskie ujęcie problematyki. Decydują o tym trzy cechy książki.Po pierwsze, przedstawiona w niej wiedza psychologiczna, odnosząca się do osób niepełnosprawnych i ich rehabilitacji, skonfrontowana została z doświadczeniami praktycznymi autora książki. Wyniki tej konfrontacji spowodowały, że niektóre z powszechnie przyjmowanych zasad działania psychologów w obszarze rehabilitacji osób z zaburzeniami psychicznymi, urazami mózgu, przewlekłymi chorobami somatycznymi, widocznymi uszkodzeniami ciała są przez Stanisława Kowalika kontestowane.Po drugie, w książce przedstawiono wiele propozycji innego odczytania problemów doświadczanych przez osoby niepełnosprawne i pomocy psychologicznej w ich rozwiązywaniu. Przy czym autorowi nie chodziło o negowanie już istniejących praktyk rehabilitacyjnych, instytucjonalnie uznawanych za poprawne. Bardziej zależało mu na ukazaniu alternatywnych form pracy z osobami niepełnosprawnymi.Po trzecie, wiele z omówionych w książce propozycji pracy psychologa rehabilitacji nawiązuje do tradycji, gdy tworzony był ten dział psychologii stosowanej. Można ją określić jako okres zrównoważonego regulowania praktyki rehabilitacyjnej przez wiedzę naukową i ideały humanistyczne. Natomiast w obserwowanej obecnie sytuacji stopniowej dehumanizacji rehabilitacji, warto ciągle przypominać o tych ideałach, szczególnie gdy pracujemy z osobami niepełnosprawnymi.

Поводом обиљежавања 65 година постојања и рада, Правни факултет Универзитета у Источном Сарајеву организовао је 29. октобра 2011. године на Палама међународни научни скуп на тему „Начела и вриједности правног система – норма и пракса“. Зборник радова са истим насловом, у коме је садржано 46 реферата, један је од резултата овог научног скупа. Научни радници из шест држава (Босне и Херцеговине, Србије, Хрватске, Црне Горе, Македоније и Њемачке) бавили су се различитим темама из грађанскоправне, јавноправне, теоријскоправне, кривично- правне, међународноправне и финансијскоправне области.

Rozprawa Stanisława Krawczyka […] jest niezwykła: precyzyjna w namierzaniu celu i odmierzaniu racji, dojrzała metodologicznie, odkrywcza, przekonująca. A także pod wieloma względami pionierska, jako że nie znajdziemy w polskiej humanistyce tak kompletnej socjologicznej analizy literatury. […]O ile gust inteligencki popychał fantastykę ku sprawom ważnym, o tyle gust popularny przeciąga fantastykę na stronę rozrywki, przyjemności, odpoczynku i kompensacji. Autor stawia więc proste i zarazem bardzo trafne pytanie: skąd wzięło się – wcale nie tak oczywiste – połączenie gustu inteligenckiego z prozą fantastyczną w polskiej kulturze, skoro zasadniczo fantastyka (od wieku XIX) była kojarzona właśnie z rozrywką, a nie podejmowaniem spraw ważnych dla życia zbiorowego? prof. Przemysław Czapliński Stanisław Krawczyk umiał połączyć doskonałe znawstwo literatury fantastycznej, wysokie kompetencje z zakresu literaturoznawstwa z wiedzą i kompetencjami badawczymi socjologa literatury. A túlsúly, az elhízás és a táplálkozás kapcsolata

In our age, in the more developed part of our world, food is available to people with virtually unlimited access, as a result of which obesity has become a global problem, an epidemic that is increasingly threatening humanity. Obesity is significantly influenced not only by human genetics but also by eating habits, dietary composition, energy intake, which provides an opportunity to develop strategies to control body weight and obese people to achieve significant weight loss.We hope that with our book we can draw attention to the fact that obesity is a public disease and that much more should be expended to sacrifice for pre-obesity education, treatment of obesity, and healing of sick people. These “sacrifices” would not only serve the interests of the individual but would also bring significant benefits to the national economy, as less costs would be needed to spend to heal sick people, and they would be able to do their beneficial work in everyday life for longer.

Socializarea politică la copii și adolescenți

The dissertation approaches the political socialization of children and adolescents in two ways:1. from the general perspective of political culture and the model of contemporary active citizenship; 2. from the specific perspective of the fundamental rights of children and adolescents to participate in the decision-making system and to freely express their personal opinions.Political socialization is integrated into the general process of human socialization, and as a result we will find a common repertoire at the level of: factors, mechanisms and agents of socialization. At the specific level, political socialization will differ from general socialization only in the predominant content of the political in relation to the social. In order to support this point of view, we have chosen a classical definition of political socialization formulated by Percheron (1991), in which the author considers that the process of political socialization is explained by the formation of political personality, during which the individual appropriates knowledge, attitudes and values from the knowledge, attitudes and values of the political culture or cultures specific to the society in question. Political identity in this case includes the relationship of the children's political self to political symbols: the perception of the president, the mayor, the main political leaders and parties, political ideologies; but also social attitudes towards: social minorities, family, religious practice, local identity, national citizenship and European citizenship.
