Tiskane glagoljske liturgijske knjige u fondu knjižnice biskupija senjske i modruške u Senju

Tiskane glagoljske liturgijske knjige u fondu knjižnice biskupija senjske i modruške u Senju

Author(s): Juraj Lokmer / Language(s): English,Croatian Issue: 1/2008

After the move of the bishop’s seat to Rijeka, in Senj, the centre of Senj and Modruš Bishopric, numerous valuable library collections of various church institutions preserved through the centuries and destruction in after the war period were left. The organizing of these collections at the end of the 1970s and during the 1980s a unique library collection was created under the name ‘Library of Senj and Modruš Bishopric’. In the collection of liturgy books are a significant number of books published in the glagolitic script and old Slavic languages from the period of 1631 to 1905, i.e. 1920. In this paper is given an overview of Croatian glagolitic printing from 1483 to 1905, i.e. 1927 with a description of the social situation and conditions in which was published a special edition of ‘Typographia Polyglotta S. Congregationis de Propaganda fide’. Furthermore described here are the preserved examples of printed glagolitic liturgy missals from the 17th century (Missal from 1631; 2 items, Breviary from 1688; 4 items), in the 18th century (Missal from 1706; 2 items, Breviary from 1741; 2 items, Extract from missal (Misi za umrše and Čin Misi) from 1741; 2 items, Breviary from 1791; 4 items) for the needs of glagolitic priests in Croatian countries as a means for the Catholic Church to approach Orthodox Slavs o then Balkan peninsula, in Walachia, Ukraine and Russia as well as editions which Anton Dragutin Parčić printed at the end of the 19th century (Missal from 1893; 9 items, Missal from 1896, 2 items, Missal for death from 1893; 5 items and Missal for death from 1894; 5 items) and Josip Vajs at the beginning of the 20th century (Missal from 1905; 10 items) dedicated exclusively for the needs of Croatian glagolitic priests. At the end there is given data about the printing of parts of glagolitic liturgic books in old Slavic languages in Prague (6 pages with a foreword from the mass dedicated to Our Lady and the mass for the dead printed in Prague in 1920) all the way to the edition in a Latin transcription of Parčić’s missal in Josip Vajs’ edition in 1927. Here is emphasized the need for the registration, conservation and restoration of glagolitic library collection as a witness of Croatian specificity within the European cultural and civilization community as well as need for better presentation of this heritage in the world for 500th anniversary of the end of work of Senj glagolitic press.

The article presents the experience of the Naval Academy in Gdynia in disseminating the principles of the protection of cultural property within the framework of the International Humanitarian Law of Armed Conflict (IHLCHC). The author reviewed the Naval Academy’s educational, scientific and popularization activities in the area of IHLC. In addition to the traditional dissemination of the principles of the protection of cultural property as part of education with IHLCHC (including members of the Polish Armed Forces), the Naval Academy additionally boasts two of its own scientific ventures, which have a dimension unique within the country: the annual IHLCH conference (14 editions) and the yearbook “International Humanitarian Law” (11 volumes). In 2020–2022, the Naval Academy participated in an EEA grant dedicated to the multi-sectoral challenges of protecting cultural heritage in the event of crisis or war. As a result, 4 publications under the collective title “Protection of Cultural Property in Crises and Armed Conflicts” (a 2-volume monograph, case studies and manuals, and collections of national and international source texts) were published by the Naval Academic Publishing House, and an interdisciplinary program of postgraduate studies in the above area was developed. In July 2022, the studies in question were established at the Academy. Currently, work is underway to raise funds for the implementation of further projects to improve the national system for the protection of cultural property in situations of special threats, including armed conflict.

Cultural heritage sites in Poland, which include museums, perform a cultural and educational mission. Their social character and universal accessibility should be paid to the aspect of their security also in the context of visits of the authorities of the Republic of Poland and delegations of foreign countries staying on the territory of our country. Ensuring the security of statutorily protected people is the scope of the tasks of the State Protection Service, which are carried out using forms of action and forms and methods of protection. Their selection is based on the results of conducted security threat analyses. The implementation of the safeguards carried out against the authorities residing in the museums requires the cooperation of the State Protection Service with internal security services in order to optimally ensure their safety.

Muzea w internecie w odpowiedzi na „kulturowy szok” pandemii COVID-19

Author(s): Mateusz Maria Bieczyński / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2023

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the cultural sector worldwide has been severe. From the beginning, it became clear that the changes resulting from the restrictions would not be without an impact on the operations of museums and galleries. According to UNESCO’s May 2020 projections, 10% of the museums affected by the pandemic were not expected to reopen. This included a huge number of 8,550 museums that might never open. The collision of cultural institutions with the new reality was described as “dramatic” and called a “culture shock.” Museums had to react quickly to the unexpected. Covid-19 highlighted many organizational and infrastructural weaknesses throughout the sector. One of them was the absence or only a small presence of museums on the Internet. Meanwhile, it was the Internet that, in the face of the “forced closure” of public buildings, became the only possible channel to maintain the continuity of the business of making collections public. As a result of the transformation of many previously planned cultural events into their virtual versions, the digital transit of museums seems to be the main effect of the pandemic’s impact on museum institutions in the field of their cultural activities.

Educational Video Games as Tools for Raising Awareness of the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage

Educational Video Games as Tools for Raising Awareness of the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage

Author(s): Yavor Dankov,Andjela Dankova / Language(s): English Issue: XIII/2023

This paper focuses on educational video games with a thematic orientation related to conserving and preserving Cultural Heritage (CH). Educational video games are effective and contemporary tools for influencing and educating users. Not only the educational content is integrated into these games, but they also embody the pedagogical and moral messages of the educator, which are transmitted to the learners in an entertainment game. This paper proposes a classification of educational video games in the domain of cultural heritage according to the significance and importance of Cultural Heritage objects in the three categories, presented in detail in the paper. The recommendations to designers included in the classification will help them purposefully design and develop educational video games for CH. These games will have pedagogical principles and form additional knowledge, val-ues, and attitude in users towards the conservation of the CH at international, national, and local levels. The proposed classification of educational video games for CH will promote CH-related educational video games and provide ideas and opportunities for future developments for such educational video games. In this way, educational video games for CH will serve as powerful tools for raising awareness of protecting and preserving Cultural heritage.

Author(s): Yavor Dankov / Language(s): English Issue: XIII/2023

This paper presents a summary model of the design process of educational video games for CH. The model is based on the use of the Classification of Educational Video Games for Cultural Heritage (CH) and the Design Recommendations included in it, described in a previous study by the author of this paper. The summary model focuses on CH objects that form the theme of the educational video game. Designers should carefully and purposefully research and analyze the CH objects, use the classification, and follow the design recommendations to design educational video games for CH, following the described design stages in the presented summary model of the design process. The paper also presents an appropriate example of using the summary model in applying it to design a new educational maze video game dedicated to CH object. The proposed summary model can serve as a starting point in establishing the design process of educational video games for CH and direct designers and creators of such games in the overall design process. Based on the classification and the design recommendations intended for the designers, the summary model presents essential design stages that designers should follow in designing and developing informative, purposeful, and effective educational video games in CH.

The Peace of Riga and the Recovery of Polish Literary Heritage

The Peace of Riga and the Recovery of Polish Literary Heritage

Author(s): Dorota Pietrzkiewicz / Language(s): English Issue: 19/2021

The Peace of Riga is considered by historians as one of the most important documents of the interwar period in Eastern Europe. It established the central belt of the western border of Russia, forced Marshal Józef Piłsudski to abandon plans to establish an Eastern European federation, which had an impact on the character of the recovering Republic, and sanctioned the borders and political system of Belarus and Ukraine. These issues have been considered by researchers, as reflected in the literature on the subject, but only a few papers discuss issues related to the restitution of book collections and archival documents. The purpose of the present article is to highlight the recovery of works of Polish literary heritage carried out under the Peace of Riga. It shows the involvement of the Polish scientific community in receiving manuscripts, prints (including incunabula), engravings, and archives of Polish provenance from Russian institutions. Today, the confiscated Polish manuscripts and prints that could not be recovered under the Peace of Riga are subject to the international cooperation of librarians from Warsaw and St. Petersburg

By zachować to, co najcenniejsze. O działaniach prowadzonych… na rzecz ochrony dziedzictwa Baworovianum – tropy z „Księgi kasowej”

Author(s): Karol Makles / Language(s): Polish Issue: 17/2019

The purpose of the article is to trace the activities of the Wiktor Foundation Library of the Count. Baworowski related to the protection of her book collection. The source basis are entries in the „Księga kasowa”, in which current library expenses were recorded. This manuscript, created mainly in the 20th century, is an interesting source of information about the functioning of the princess, as a number of expenses were recorded in it, which shed new light on the functioning of the institution. In addition, the analysis and compilation of individual data provides information about the cooperation of Baworovianum with the immediate environment including artists, bookbinders and other craftsmen regularly carrying out conservation works. Data from the described manuscript allow to outline and systematize a number of issues not previously raised by researchers, also related to those conducted by librarians for this in one of the major foundation libraries in Lviv and in Poland.

Author(s): Sadik Mehmeti / Language(s): Albanian Issue: 1-2/2022

Personal archival funds consist of a set of documents that have been organically created during the life and work of individuals who have played an important role in the socio-political life of a community or country. In addition to the general funds and collections, the Kosovo Archives also preserves a considerable number of personal funds of various origins, which are important and valuable testimonies for the study of local and regional history and prominent personalities of public life, culture and social policy of our country. Our contribution aims to highlight the value and importance of the use and exploitation of these collections preserved in the Kosovo Archives for scholarly purposes, as well as to present the need for their protection and digitisation as a necessary opportunity for the preservation of these collections and as a facilitator for more efficient access for interested parties.

STUDY OF OLD VARNISH RECIPES USED BY THE TRANSYLVANIAN ICON PAINTERS. CASE STUDY: REPRODUCTION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF VARNISHES USED IN THE 18TH CENTURY AND EARLY 19TH CENTURY ICONS FROM MUSEIKON COLLECTION

Author(s): Bernadetta Ciesek-Ślizowska,Beata Duda,Ewa Ficek,Joanna Przyklenk,Katarzyna Sujkowska-Sobisz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2022

The article first presents the phenomenon that is described today as the digital community archive. The overview of the discussed study object (cognitively interesting but so far still overlooked in the linguistic or discourse-oriented considerations on individual or common memory, memory culture, memory discourses, etc.) was preceded by some definition conclusions presented here. The researchers supplemented this overview with: 1. description of the socio-cultural background of the contemporary archival sources; 2. presentation of the research background, including the research assumptions and description methods; 3. assessment of possibilities and limitations connected with exploring the outlined field of study and indicating in this field the most important research problems, i.e.: subjects’ identities that can be seen in digital community archives; axiological and ideological aspects of the images of the past that are re/constructed by the participants of the community archive area; the subject plane and discursive image of the world; private and/vs. public discourse considering the community archives, and – in a broader sense – the position of the archive in the contemporary sphere of communication. The authors believe that the archive should receive more attention from the discourse researchers mainly due to its vital social role played not only in the humanities, but also in the contemporary participatory thinking (civic and community-generating).
