The authors discuss the notions of knowledge about the EU and intercultural competence as important aspects of citizenship education in the context of modern language education. Exploring the integration potential between the Bulgarian language and the other languages studied at secondary school outlines some opportunities for students to learn about the EU and develop intercultural competence, which are presented in the paper. The theoretical analysis and practical solutions have been realized within the project “Promoting Excellence in Teaching and Research in EU Studies at Primary and Secondary School Level through Digital and Virtualisation Tools. An emphasis is laid on the teaching materials suitable for studying EU-related topics which are based on the integral links among the studied languages, on the selected teaching methods and techniques, as well as on the variety of envisaged activities.

Reading involves various processes that range from visual identification of writing to understanding the content and context. The main objective of this study is to fathom out the initial process of learning to read (decoding and comprehension) for students from first and second grade. The following tests were used: rapid serial naming (objects and letters), phonological awareness (manipulation and rhyme), picture vocabulary, decoding of words and reading comprehension.This study found statistically significant differences in all components observed in both age groups – students from first and second grade. Decoding of words has strongest correlation with the rapid naming of letters, phonological awareness and rapid naming of objects. Reading comprehension has strongest correlation with vocabulary size, phonological awareness and decoding of words. There was a statistically significant difference between the sexes in terms of phonological awareness, vocabulary size and reading comprehension.Predictors for the decoding of words for Bulgarian students from first and second grade are: the speed at which they read, rapid naming of letters and their level of phonological awareness. Predictors of the reading comprehension are: vocabulary, ability of segmentation and rapid naming of letters.

The use of a test for measuring the success rate of students in the control and experimental group in conducting the didactic experiment aims to establish and compare the level formation of the communication speech competence in these groups of persons. This will demonstrate sustainability in the development of the students and will take into account the effectiveness of didactic technology for improving education. The study is devoted to little-known facts related to the participation and contribution of the troops of the 11th Marching Regiment to the victory achieved in the battles for control of the heavily fortified area in the Machin. The data presented come to fill the gap in the researches regarding the participation of the marching formations and in particular of the 11th Marching Regiment in the battles as part of the 3rd Army. The presented information helps to clarify and supplement the general picture of the events on the front, by revealing specific details of the course of the hostilities, which so far have not fallen within the scope of attention of the scientific community. Also, a good basis is created for the formation of reasonable conclusions about the significance of the achieved victory. Archival materials have been put into circulation, which reveal new facts about the battles in the Dobrudzha region. The presented brief information about the marching regiments and the combat history of the regiment helps to clarify the nature and purpose of these units, taking into account the fact that the available information about them is more than modest and insufficient. The presented data are entirely based on materials from the State Military Historical Archives – Veliko Tarnovo.

The article’s purpose is twofold. First, it aims at demonstrating the heuristic potential of the capability approach in rethinking the lifelong learning and in particular the non-formal education. Second, it aims at exploring the factors which influence the participation in non-formal education among the group of young adults in a European comparative perspective. At a theoretical level, it applies the capability approach framework to the conceptualizing non-formal education as a capability. At a methodological level, it makes a secondary data analysis on Adult Education Survey (2011) and the official statistics by using descriptive statistics and multilevel modeling for 17 countries. The results show that there are considerable differences in the participation in non-formal education between the European countries and that the participation in non-formal education is much more than personal responsibility and is, in fact, a result of a wide range of factors both at individual and country level. These factors may constrain but also enable the chances which young adults have to participate in non-formal education. Among the factors which are identified as important at the country level are the economic climate, the active labour market measures, the expenses paid by the employers for training and the level of innovation.

The views of Todor Bourmov for the government of Bulgaria are reflected in a document stored in Russian archives. At the first its publication,the document was defined as a response of one of the Bulgarian notables – Todor Bourmov – to the questions of the Russian civil administration in Bulgaria from1878, and in the second – as rules for the election of a Bulgarian prince. According contained in this article concept, in both cases there are errors and inaccuracies, but in principle, the document itself contains a number of provisions found a place in the initial draft of the Organic Statute of the Bulgarian principality.

The analysis consists of a comparison of the internal elements such as selection of the texts, placing the application and textual preparation which allows us to divide them into two groups: Conventional – this is characterized by a complete structural and genre harmony between the components of each volume in the series. Commercial – characterized by the low quality of the editorial process. Both groups show the nature of the publishing choices, which vary widely, and allow us to talk about differences between these seemingly identical publishing products.
