Marta Bogacka, Bokser z Auschwitz. Losy Tadeusza Pietrzykowskiego, Warszawa 2012, ss. 199

Author(s): Piotr Boroń / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2013

Należą do nich bez wątpienia wojenno-okupacyjne losy polskiego sportu.

Recollections of lectures delivered by Jerzy Brycki at the University of Physical Education in Krakow: “Chess as a form of rehabilitation of the blind”

Author(s): Joanna Sobiecka / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

The paper presents the Author’s memories regarding the monograph lectures presented by the doyen of Polish chess for the blind - Jerzy Brycki, which were part of the Disability Sport curriculum. The lectures were delivered in the University of Physical Education in Krakow and their main theme was “Chess as a form of rehabilitation of the blind”. Prior to the lectures, the Author participated (as an observer) in chess trainings and tournaments which she recalls as extraordinary emotional experiences. First, thanks to the opportunity to observe the blind players who remained deeply focused in an absolutely quiet room. Second, due to the unique character of the competitions as the players used only their memory and imagination. These experiences had inspired the Author to invite the Royal Game enthusiast to meet the movement rehabilitation students. Each lecture delivered by the Master was both theoretical and practical. In the first part, Jerzy Brycki presented a brief history overview, the game rules when the blind plays against a sighted player, and the nature of learning chess. Using his own example, he emphasised the role of the game in psychical adaptation as well as intellectual, emotional and social development. The practical part included a blind chess match. Jerzy Brycki played using his memory whereas students used a Braille chess set. After the game, in order to explain the students’ failure, the Master always asked them to reconstruct the positions of pieces on the board. Then, as during a “bling game”, that is, a game played in memory, without the board - he began to replay the match. He instructed the captain how to move the pieces, one by one, the blacks and the whites, and commented the students’ moves. As a result, Jerzy and his wife were invited to share their playing and training experiences during the National Scientific and Methodic Conference titled: “Sport for persons with disabilities in different age groups”. During the 1st Scientific and Methodic Session Mr and Mrs Brycki delivered a presentation titled “Chess as a form of rehabilitation of the blind”, which was highly rated by the Conference Scientific Board.

Political invention of the World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan

Political invention of the World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan

Author(s): Arzuu Sheranova / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

This paper examines ‘invention’ of a new ‘tradition’, that is of nomadic games in Kyrgyzstan blessed by its prehistoric past of nomadism. Since 2012 the Kyrgyz government had introduced the World Nomad Games (the WNGs) in Kyrgyzstan. The country hosted three spectacular games in the northern oblast of the country – Yssyk-Kul. Hundreds of sportsmen worldwide took part in these events and thousands of tourists rushed into the country to watch the games. In fact, Kyrgyz nomadic games are more than just a revival of old nomadic traditions, but they are political inventions. Using Hobsbawm’s framework of ‘invented traditions’ (1983), I examine the World Nomad Games as invented tradition. I argue that the Kyrgyz leadership invented tradition of nomadic games to tackle with contemporary issues, such as a need for attraction of foreign investment and promotion of tourism. As I illustrate the WNGs project was a timely response to improve the country image after a series of political instabilities the country underwent in its recent history.

Podstawy organizacyjne sportu akademickiego w okresie międzywojennym

Author(s): Rafał Pawłowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 59/2023

The student sports movement was established in academic centres in Po-land during the partitions. Due to the political situation, the fate of sports organizations created by students was not easy. The aim of the article is to present the legal basis of the sports activity of Polish students in the interwar period and the struggle for the autonomy of the Academic Sports Association. After regaining independence, sports activities were subject to a varied legal status and only unified by the Law on Associations of 1932. The statute of the Krakow Academic Sports Association was a model for student sports organizations established in subsequent cities, and the legal regulation of student sports clubs was not the same as the provisions on which the association movement was based. In the interwar period, student associations were established based on the Act on Academic Schools and were subject to ministerial and university supervision. Rigorous regulations made it difficult to participate in national sports competitions, inter-university activities, and limited autonomy.

Prawne aspekty ustanawiania i finansowania stypendium okresowego dla zawodników e-sportowych przez gminy. Kazus miasta Sosnowca

Author(s): Przemysław Kuczkowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 61/2023

The purpose of this study is to address the legal problem of finding an answer to the question of the permissibility of municipalities establishing and financing periodic sports scholarships for athletes of electronic sports based on Article 31 of the Sports Act. This study also undertook an analysis of the pioneering resolution of the Sosnowiec City Council concerning sports scholarships for individuals achieving results in electronic sports competition, from the point of view of the occurrence in it of the subject and object premises specified in the Sports Act. The results of the research contained in this paper have proven that there is a legal possibility, based on the Sports Act (at the same time bearing in mind the provisions of the Public Finance Act regarding the expenditure of budget funds), of establishing and financing periodical sports scholarships for eSports competitors by municipalities, or more broadly by all local authorities. The article is original in nature and is devoted entirely to the issue of periodic scholarships for e-sports players. Bearing in mind the individual works on e-sports financing, the elaboration of this issue within the article, in the author’s opinion, will undoubtedly enrich the current literature. The analysis of the problem was based primarily on the Polish provisions of the Act, which contains the regulations on sports scholarships, as well as on case law and doctrine.

От футбола до парашютизма: физкультура и спорт на заводе «Красный Путиловец» в 1920-х — начале 1930-х гг.

Author(s): S. B. Ulyanova ,I. V. Sidorchuk / Language(s): Russian Issue: 43/2023

This study is devoted to the under researched issue of development of physical education and sports at the grassroots level. The task was to identify the mechanism of recruiting participants to sports teams and societies; to consider the process of introduction to sports at the micro-level of the enterprise; to study the role of physical culture in labor processes. The cornerstone of the Soviet mass society were collectives formed at factories, and therefore one of the largest factories in Petrograd/Leningrad — “Krasnyi Putilovets”, which had not only rich labor and revolutionary history, but also sports history, was chosen as an example. The research source base included archival materials; reviews and results of the survey of the physical education club at the plant; reviews of the activity of the sports club; discussions of the development of physical culture and sports, etc. As far as research methods are concerned, the authors turned to everyday history and its components — the history of sports and the history of leisure, as well as to microhistory. The results of the study demonstrate that it was the factory sport circles that led to professional sports and that during the period under review, effective mechanisms were developed to attract workers of different genders and ages to active physical education and sports. At the same time, the actors involved in the organization and implementation of this work pursued different goals — the unity of the labor collective, the distraction of young people from deviant leisure practices, the proletarization of sports, its use for educational and propaganda work, etc.

Park ve Rekreasyon Alanı Kullanıcılarının Fiziksel Aktiviteye Katılımını Ve Mekân Seçimini Engelleyen Unsurların Belirlenmesi: Düzce Örneği

Author(s): Filiz Süleymanoğlu,Levent Atali / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 2/2023

The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that prevent park and recreation area users in Düzce from engaging in physical activity and the factors that inhibit their choice of location. While the population of this study consisted of park and recreation area visitors over the age of 15 in Düzce, the sample group consisted of 290 individuals selected using the method of convenience sampling. To collect data "Physical activity space rating scale (FAMDO)" (Gümüş et al., 2015) was used. The scale has two subdimensions and thirty-three items. The first sub-dimension of the scale is comprised of factors that influence the selection of a physical activity venue, and the second sub-dimension is comprised of factors that inhibit the frequency of physical activity participation. The scale, which was preperad in a computer environment, was distributed online via Google forms to the participants. After determining that the data were reliable, a normality analysis was performed to determine which analyses would be applied to the data. On the basis of the results of analyses of reliability and normality, descriptive statistics were conducted first. Using the Independent Sample T test and ANOVA, the differences between the variables were examined. Consequently, when the participants' preferences for visiting these areas were examined, "spending time," "sitting / resting," and "psychological relaxation" ranked first, second, and third, respectively. Examining the results of the analysis reveals that there is a difference between high school, undergraduate, and graduate graduates and primary school graduates on both subdimensions. Furthermore, it has been determined that single people prefer these areas more than married people. According to the findings of the study, individuals with chronic diseases prefer these areas less than those without chronic diseases.
