Some Thoughts on the Development of Comparative Education in Japan: Consumer or Producer?

This study intends to examine the position of fieldwork in comparative studies of education in Japan. For this purpose, the content of articles in the Japan Comparative Education Society’s journal over the past 40 years is analyzed. Then, the implications, significance as well as apprehension surrounding doing fieldwork are discussed. The classification based on a full reading of 625 articles indicates 128 (20.48%) are found to be based on the data and information collected by the researchers themselves with the various techniques in their fields. While studies about Western advanced countries account for a majority, those utilizing fieldwork remain limited at 27. The rest of the fieldwork-based articles concern developing countries. Interestingly, not only has the speed of increase been accelerating, but the quality of the fieldwork seems to have been improving. Investigated countries and areas have been diversifying. Perhaps the most salient phenomenon is that studies centering on advanced Western countries are coming to adopt fieldwork. These recent trends may indicate that comparative education studies in Japan are coming into their own: what was long considered a ‘peripheral’ or ‘consumer’ position in academia is now being replaced with hope for making original and active contributions to the field

This paper attempts to put forward some problems of foreign language teaching in relation to cross-cultural communication. The introduction of cross-cultural issues in foreign language teaching is a logical consequence of the integrative tendencies which are getting more and more popular. The new circumstances require a different attitude towards the learners. They should be viewed as subjects of their own culture on the one hand, and as representatives of the foreign culture through the language studied, on the other hand. The problem is discussed in terms of its cognitive, emotional and pragmatic dimensions. The acquisition of proper language communication is placed within the context of cross-cultural education. However, the skills and attitudes that go with this acquisition process are ignored.

In the work is treated the question of breaks caused by searching for words and phrases in the immediate flow of speech act. The author indicates that in conversational Bulgarian literary language for this purpose are extended vocal [ъ] and [a]. Shown is that it is perceived as a negative phenomenon available training in correct speech without hasitation breaks to starts in early pre-school years.

Hydra for Web: WordNet Online Editor

The paper presents the CRUD functions of the Hydra for Web system for work on lexical-semantic databases with relational structure similar to the structure of WordNet. It supports functionalities for editing of relational data, simultaneous access of multiple users, parallel data visualisation. Hydra for Web has been used for the development of the Bulgarian wordnet.

Second grade pupils show a high level of language competence formation in line with the second grade curriculum. There is a statistically significant difference in the achievements of girls and boys. Pupils have mastered the syntax knowledge and skills to a very high level. They show lower morphology results: they have mastered spelling knowledge of voiced consonants in the end of the word, as well as spell-checking skills, but they find it difficult to check the spelling of an unstressed vowel, especially if the word is plural; they are able to distinguish the studied parts of speech, define their grammatical gender category and differentiate between singular and plural forms.

The need for functional and stylistic approach in Bulgarian language training is determined by the implementation of a comprehensive program for practical mastery of the characteristics of different language styles skills for most purposeful selection of means of expression. Therefore, the functional style is only part of the language. It examines linguistic means, sign language in different spheres of human activity. The correctness of speech is essential, but not only important condition for the quality of speech. The selection of the means of expression in the flow of speech is carried out in a practical way mostly by the functional differentiation.

This study was motivated by the fundamental objective of the National program information and communication technology (ICT) in education, developed by the Ministry of Education. A successful ICT modernization of education includes not only e-learning, but also suitable electronic content to provide quality education. A review of the theoretical analysis of the current status of the problem was conducted and followed by a proposal for web-based platform for teaching Bulgarian as a foreign language for the first two levels according to the Common European Framework. The motivation of teaching foreign language and attitudes of learners to use interactive media in the learning process of a foreign language was investigated and analyzed.

Children’s communication with the letters, whether anonymous folklore and literature began long before entering primary school. The formation of readers’ personalities seen in more dialogic interaction before literacy, characterized by psycholinguistic transition from talking and listening to graphic code. In fact, oral verbal expression and schooling context just before school and help prepare first readers’ opinions. Interview via text art resembles a comprehensive children’s creativity, which will soon be manifested in written verbal communication. Finally, children’s reading develops and improves both educational and socio-cultural interactions in the school community.
