Między mimikrą a rebelią. Pejzaż (post)kolonialny regionalnej literatury

Author(s): Małgorzata Mikołajczak / Language(s): Polish Issue: 5/2015

Mikołajczak looks at postwar regional Polish literature – especially the literature that originates in the so-called recovered territories – from a postcolonial perspective. Her point of departure consists of two related assumptions: first, that the relationship between regional works and the historically variable political and cultural centre plays a key role in the mechanisms of these works’ creation; and second, that the development of these works is steered by a tension between regionalism’s tendency towards the universal on the one hand and its tendency towards differentiation on the other hand. These opposing tendencies also inform the positions of ‘mimicry’ and ‘rebellion’ that recur in different stages of the development of regional literature, representing a compensation for the weakness that results from the conditioning of centre and periphery.

Afektywna topografia współczesnego Tokio w powieści Yoriko Shōno „Kombinat zakrzywionej czasoprzestrzeni” (Taimu surippu konbināto )

Author(s): Beata Kubiak Ho-Chi / Language(s): Polish Issue: 6/2015

Kubiak Ho-Chi reads Yoriko Shōno’s novel ‘Time Slip Kombinat” (1994) in the light of Brian Massumi’s theory of affect. She highlights the importance of affect and the cognitive potential of studying the emotional interaction between the individual and the place (Tokyo) in Shōno’s novel. She also emphasizes the correspondence between the chaos of the city and the chaos of feelings, which becomes apparent in the novelistic world after the industrial catastrophe. While Shōno is still untranslated into Polish, in Japan she is counted among the most revolutionary contemporary writers. Saturated with an atmosphere of surrealism and a nightmarish combination of dream and wakefulness, her experimental prose represents a postmodern Japan as well as a modern individual lost in the globalized world, filled with fear and lacking all faith in the future.

СИМВОЛ В СМЕНЕ КУЛЬТУРНЫХ ЭПОХ

Author(s): Sergey Sharakov / Language(s): Russian Issue: 2/2015

The interest to symbolic structures of the literary text has intensified in Russian literary studies during the last decades. Symbols have acquired many interpretations. Thus, the problem of subjectivity and arbitrary interpretation appeared. An approach is suggested in this paper that would allow defining criteria of scientific validity in symbol interpretation. Cultural and historical specificity of the symbol in the Antiquity, Middle Ages, and Modern Era is proved. Every symbolization type is analyzed from the point of its cultural and historical content, as well as categorical environment.

ОТ ПОЭТИКИ МИФА К ПРОСТРАНСТВУ ТВОРЧЕСТВА: ТУЙААРА ШАПОШНИКОВА

Author(s): Vlada Vladislavovna Timofeeva / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1/2016

The artistic process is considered in the paper as one of the methods of reproduction, representation, translation, and transformation of ethnic mythological meanings and symbols, as well as their adaptation to the new conditions of multicultural existence. Tuyaara Shaposhnikova, one of the brightest representatives of contemporary fine arts of Yakutia, creates works that are characterized by the associativity and polysemy by combining the methods of the European art schools and traditional techniques of folk creativity. The works of the artist are permeated with symbols and metaphors of the national traditional culture. The modern author creates a cycle of colorful lithographs based on the plots of oral historical legends dedicated to Elley, the cultural hero and first ancestor of the Sakha people. The graphic artist is attracted to his image expressing the family power due to its symbolic potential. The myth is naturally included into the structure of engravings through the quotes of folklore plots and the expressions of cultural and historical archetypes. T. Shaposhnikova has developed her own style based on the motifs of folk art and folk traditions of the Yakuts. Her works are characterized by elegant decorativeness of the general solution related to the use of geometric ornaments, symmetrical or balanced structure of the composition, flatness, and conventionality of the picture. It is concluded that the fine art of Yakutia undergoes a material process of adaptation to the perception by other cultures, thereby overcoming the isolation and one-sidedness of folk images and motifs and revealing the semantic unity of human cultures.

Author(s): Dmitry Evgenievich Martynov / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1/2016

This paper is devoted to the utopian genre in the United States during the period of 1880–1940. Practical orientation of the society for implementation of the utopia is a specific feature of the utopian consciousness, as well as, therefore, of the utopian fiction in America. The United States embraced the European tradition of constructing a utopian ideal, in which inversion allowing the imagination to simultaneously overcome the reality and create a radically different world is the main method. Whereas egalitarianism was the ideal of European utopianists, the American utopia very early took the idea of justice; it was more associated with the equality of opportunities, rather than with the equality of property and consumption. Thus, E. Bellamy’s utopian novel “Looking Backward, 2000–1887” (1888), with no literary merit, made a revolution in the minds of both the United States and Europe, thereby laying the basis for a number of major social trends, especially in the sphere of consumption. R. Heinlein made an attempt to create his own utopian ideal in the second half of the 1930s. He faced the misunderstanding among publishers and completely switched to writing commercial science fiction.

БЪЛГАРСКАТА ЛИТЕРАТУРА ОТ XIX ВЕК И ПРОБЛЕМЪТ ЗА СМЕСЕНИТЕ БРАКОВЕ

Author(s): Nikolay Aretov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2017

Mixed marriages are one of the effects of migration. Every community has its own marriage regulations that define which marriages (meaning also which forms of inter-cultural exchange, inter-cultural dialog) are allowed, possible and inadmissible. In the foundations of these rules, strictly related to the definitions of the “own” and “alien”, and with the further differentiation of the “own”, lay the ideas about what is useful for the community. These rules are embedded in different tests; for the time when national law system was still not created, oral traditions and literature were among their main carriers. The paper is focused at the plots in literature dealing with marriages and love affairs of Bulgarian women with men from other ethnical origins, other religion and especially with the faith of some women that had to live in a community, different from their own.

Домът на литературата: Югославски и постюгославски представи за литературната споделимост

Домът на литературата: Югославски и постюгославски представи за литературната споделимост

Author(s): Ludmila Mindova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2018

The Home of Literature is a metaphor of the literature and literary community. However, this metaphor is connected with the home obsession in contemporary post-Yugoslavian literatures. After the collapse of the Former Yugoslavia and Bosnian war, the home is one of the constant themes in contemporary literature in all area. We can see that in the poetry of the Bosnian-Slovenian poet Josip Osti, but also in the novels and essays of the famous emigrant writer Dubravka Ugrešić, as well as in the works of Peter Semolič, Miljenko Jergović, Vida Ognjenović, Jasna Koteska etc. The home is often present even in the titles of their works (House of Language by Osti, House of Words by Semolič, The House of Dead Scents by Ognjenović), and what is more important – the home is a counterpart of the literature as a place of the sense in the world that every day loses a part of its sense and good taste. The literary home is not a utopian place, because it is a collective image and it could be the dystopian place as well. We mark that through the works about the prison and concentration camps – The Damned Yard by Ivo Andrić, the novels and stories by Danilo Kiš, Dragoslav Mihailović, Branko Hofman, Miroslav Popović etc. At all events, the literary home is always a place of the reinventing of the sense.

IN THE WAKE OF SLEEPING BEAUTY. EVER-CHANGING FACES OF FEMININITY IN TRANSMEDIA STORYTELLING. FROM CHARLES PERRAULT TO WALT DISNEY

IN THE WAKE OF SLEEPING BEAUTY. EVER-CHANGING FACES OF FEMININITY IN TRANSMEDIA STORYTELLING. FROM CHARLES PERRAULT TO WALT DISNEY

Author(s): Ana-Maria Niculescu-Mizil / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2015

Within the broader discussion about remediation (Bolter and Grusin, 1996), transmedial storytelling (Jenkins, 2006; Ryan, 2013) and transfictionality (Ryan, 2013), the present paper advances the proposal of a comparative intersectional qualitative analysis of femininity in Charles Perrault's version of the story La Belle au bois dormant (1697), Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty (1959) and Walt Disney and Roth Films' Maleficient (2014) based upon associations between body representations, age groups and types of character. What would Evil look like if it were a woman? Would she be slender or voluptuous? What about the Good? Would she be wrinkled or sappy? This is a series of topics the current inquiry will put to the issue adjusting the intersectionality theory. However, it is not the experience of oppression that is central to the present analysis, but rather the pattern of intersection between gender, age and good or evil nature and how body representations coagulate at such intersections.

Има ли Бог в машината? Литературата като дигитално изживяване

Author(s): Ivan Velchev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 6/2015

This paper presents the seacrhing for the new educational forms – a process associated with rethinking of traditional standpoints and ordinary school practices in relation to the technological and humanitarian contexts created by digital technologies. To elucidate the nature of the digital game in order to raise a question about its applicability as educational tool is the main purpose of this inquiry. The digitalization engender optimistic theories about putting of the digital technologies into the educational practice but It could be asserted that these theories have to be proven in everyday school life yet. Although its undeniable potentialities technology itself is not capable to arouse a positive turn in education because the crucial cause for such a turn is human.

„Методика на езикознанието“ от Ст. Чакъров и М. Господинов в контекста на ранната методическа литература за обучение по роден език

Author(s): Ivan Cholakov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 5/2015

This paper presents a publication, unexplored so far, which has an important place in the early methodical literature on the problems of language learning. The Methodology of Linguistics (1906, 1907) in two volumes by St. Chakarov and M. Gospodinov is a continuation of the Herbartian pedagogical and didactic concept that entered in our country as early the 1880s through the translation reception of Stjepan Basariček and for several decades it had dominant impact on the formation of methodical thought in the country. In this sense the Methodology under review is a milestone in the foundation of the methods of teaching Bulgarian language as a system of theoretical and practical-and-applied views, a major part of which are still relevant from the standpoint of modern scientifi c thought

GOETHE AND HIS FOLLOWERS: WELTLITERATUR AND ITS AFTERLIVES

GOETHE AND HIS FOLLOWERS: WELTLITERATUR AND ITS AFTERLIVES

Author(s): Leena Eilittä / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

Goethe and his Followers: Weltliteratur and its Afterlives. Goethe´s Weltliteratur, which recalls cosmopolitan ideas of the 18th century, drew attention to literature´s multicultural role in the international exchange and networks. His ideas were developed by subsequent scholars who reflected upon the importance of translations, literatures belonging to small nations, and putting in contact local and global aspects in their discussions about literary studies. Hugo Meltzl emphasized multilingualism for development of literary studies; Georg Brandes drew attention to the importance of small literatures; and Fritz Strich proclaimed that world literature should challenge the Eurocentric notion of literary studies.

Педагогическая инноватика в действии

Author(s): Galina Shamonina,Leonid Moskovkin / Language(s): Russian Issue: 4/2019

This paper deals with the analysis of the ten-year experience in the work of the International Qualification School “Modern Pedagogical Technologies in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language”. The main trends in the development of the school stand out; two stages of its history are highlighted: the formation stage and the sustainable development stage. At the first stage of the school’s work, main modern pedagogical technologies were analysed and the main direction of the school’s work for all the forthcoming years was outlined - the study of productive innovative technologies in teaching Russian as a foreign language. A fundamental model of teaching these technologies was developed. It involves instructive classes of lecture or seminar type, development of a project by the attendees at the School, presentation of projects, selection of the best project, awarding the winners, appraisal of the experience of this work by its organizers and performers. At the second stage of the school, the attendees were introduced to theatrical, excursion, and music technologies, as well as movie-technology. In addition, the organizers of the School sought to present a broad picture of modern pedagogical technologies in general, to give an idea of the state and functioning of the modern Russian language.

Специфична лексика в гръцкия текст на Книга Откровение на св. Йоан Богослов.

Author(s): Iva Trifonova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 17/2019

This article is about the original Greek vocabulary in the Book of Revelation of St. John the Theologian (or of the Apocalypse) in view of the development of the overall Christian biblical tradition. The object of the study is the Greek vocabulary in the New Testament canonical corpus, which is found only in the text of the Apocalypse – i.e. the excerpted lexical units have remained out of the vocabulary of the Greek translation of the Old Testament canonical corpus, outside the sacred evangelical text and beyond that of the epistoles and the acts of Christ’s apostles. The collected lexical material is presented together with its Slavonic translation in the context of the other biblical books from the earliest period of Slavonic script, and is supplemented by its correspondences in the Latin translation of the Sacred Scripture

Statecraft, Exception and Wasted Lives Amitav Ghosh’s The Hungry Tide

Author(s): Binayak Roy / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

One of the reasons why Amitav Ghosh is considered an important writer is that his narratives do not occupy a “neutral” zone. Rather, they offer a sensitive and multifaceted view on the contemporary problems of the worlds he writes about. Ghosh seems to be intent on moving his readers through his narratives beyond the aesthetic of indifference. Ghosh’s first commitment is to his art.
