This article aims to study the phonological and semantic adaptation modalities developed by Hebrew borrowings integrated into Moroccan Arabic. The study focuses on two main approaches. The first one, which is phonological, aims to examine the factors favoring the different transformations that occur in the pho-nematic structures of the Hebrew lexemes following their integration into Mo-roccan Arabic. The second one is semantic. Its purpose is to identify the nature of the significant spans attributed to Hebrew lexemes in the borrowing language. To do this, we analyzed data of Hebrew borrowings that are still used in Moroccan Arabic after checking their etymology.

This article examines the polysemy of the term ʔîn “and, with”. The aim of this paper is to show the originality of the Gbaya yaayuwee language that does not use this preposition as both commutative and instrumental marker like in many others languages such as English and Tuki, etc. The study of this term points out that the noun phrase coordination does not function like the clausal coordination in Gbaya. On one hand, ʔîn is only used in the noun phrase coordination, occurring between two nouns, to express the addition. On the other one, it can appear after a verb and, therefore, serves as a preposition marking the commutative and oppositive values. Accordingly, this paper is useful for Ubanguian languages, typological and semantic studies.

The study of abouré interrogation reveals that this language realizes interrogative sentences without interrogative morpheme, and interrogative sentences with an interrogative morpheme. Queries without a morpheme are total in the sense that they concern the entire process. They therefore call for an answer by “yes” or “no”. In contrast, the questions that admit a morpheme are partial. They question a constituent of the sentence. Also, the constituent questioned moves and leaves in its place either a trace or a pronoun reminder. The interrogative sentences abouré can be in a simple form or in a complex form. In the simple form, they become a maximum projection IP and in the complex form, they are a maximum projection CP, dominated by the complementer álὲ.

The article contains a suggestion to frame a shift towards the cultural dimension of discourse in its linguistic analysis through the notion of lingua nativa – lingua materna – lingua fracta. In this approach, the gradual dispersion of the idea of language as a natural phenomenon is emphasized in three aspects: the common language referring to the “world of things” and everyday experiences; the first/native language, which “runs in the blood”; and the spoken language in non-mediated interpersonal communication.

This article is the result of a study conducted within the theoretical framework of ethnography of communication. One of the main purposes of this study was to examine discourse strategies among Mexican-American bilinguals residing in the Los Angeles area. The examination of strategies used in oral and written conversations demonstrates the existence of numerous stylistic features. Mexican-American bilingual discourse is characterized by the use of code-switching, culturally-motivated borrowings from English and, in general, the dominance of the English language in conversation. Undoubtedly, these discursive phenomena stem from socioeconomic and cultural forces and the prestige of English as the dominant linguistic system of the American society.

The article refers to the theory of colour, the theory of perception, contemporary media morphosis and the postulates of multimedia stylistics. The author undertakes the presented deliberations for two reasons. Perception, remembering and learning are important for the teaching process at the university regardless of the passage of time. Both the lecturer and the student are interested in the effective acquisition of content. Multimodality as an attribute of the prevailing products of contemporary culture should be the subject of interest for discourse linguistics. The author’s research goal is to examine the effectiveness of font colours used in academic Power Point slides. In a multimedia presentation as a form of a lecture, a public reception takes place, alongside listening with reading and watching. The synergy of the spoken word and the bit-based text occurs. The author puts forward the claim that colour can be a factor in supporting or losing the listener’s directional attention. The second claim is that a colourful area, or a background for a printed text, is different from the colour of the font used in a text that students are required to read and watch from a distance. When the lecturer stands in front of the audience, they can manage its attention through various means. One of them is visualization in the form of the font colour choice within the slide. The article is a proposal of a certain type of research, but the author also presents the results of an experiment. Its results allow to reject the dominant role of the text placed on the slide. Some students correctly recalled the information conveyed only in the spoken form.

The aim of the article is to show the changes that take place in new media and culture, and have an impact on the study of discourses. A structuralist paradigm, an iconic paradigm and a performative paradigm were chosen for the analysis. According to the author, these paradigms have the greatest influence on the cultural paradigm undergoing constant transformation. The most important con- sequence of the cultural turn is the interpretative and humanistic attitude used in media discourse research. It emphasizes the constructivist vision of cultural phenomena, cooperation and relations of various cultural practices, a departure from essentialism, narrative reading of texts, individual understanding and pragmatic use of a given text, as well as openness to numerous cultural contexts that expand its meaning.

The article deals with a linguistic approach to the subject of interpersonal interactions and the use of metaphors as a rhetorical techniques in the scientific register. The aim of this text is to describe the role of conceptual metaphors in scientific texts dealing with the theory of interactionism. Within the analysis of the linguistic and stylistic layer of theoretical studies of interactionism, the author will identify analogies between the particular aspects of interactions and source domains, which affect the constitution of certain forms of social cognition and thus the construction of knowledge. The study follows the methodological approach of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA).

The present paper deals with the affective meaning in the utterances of characters in Philip Roth novel, Portnoy’s Complaint. By analyzing the dialogues in this novel, what comes to the fore is a constant breach of (what Leech called) politeness principles and maxims. The speech acts that make up the communication between the main character (the ‘frustrated’ teenager) and his parents (especially his mother) or other women in his life are replete with elements that reveal multiple instances of ‘warped’ affective meaning that emphasize the character’s attitude and / or feelings towards another character. The important feature that is emphasized at both the pragmatic and semantic level is the abovementioned breach of politeness principles that also highlights the very theme of the novel – a mother-son relationship causing disorder in which ethical and extreme sexual impulses are usually overlapping and warring.

Diminutives are morphological, polysemous linguistic instruments whose purpose has always been to suggest informal attitudes, closeness, small physical dimensions, positive or negative feelings. However, their use and presence have lead in time to the assigning of specific semantic values to words containing them, through the process of lexicalization. This article will attempt to mention and classify the different instances of use of the English diminutive suffixes (such as –let, -ling, –ette, -kin) and their journey towards various linguistic semantic and morphological changes, contexts in which they coexist nowadays along with the original senses.

Emotions are an indispensable part of human life, and consequently of speech. On the other hand, they are put under pressure by the culture – not least by the good nursery – so that, politely, one does not always express directly what is important to one‘s heart. Goethe summed it up in Faust II as follows: “In German you lie when you are polite” (see also Szczęk 2012). Sometimes, however, one is forced to let the emotion run wild. This is exemplified in the article on Günter Grass’ Hundejahre and Peter Handke’s Publikumsbe¬schimpfung. On the other hand, the article focuses on an important aspect of the subconscious emotive, namely verbal aggression as a substitute for assault. The author joins Meinunger (2017: 11 f.), where he says: “Ranting is much better than his reputation. […] It is essentially a substitute for physical violence. […] must be seen as a victory of culture over nature.” At the same time he is contradicted when he also summarizes hate speech under ranting.
