Informacja o obcych autorach książek dziecięcych zamieszczona w przekładach na język polski i w przekierowaniach do Sieci

Author(s): Bogumiła Staniów / Language(s): Polish Issue: 20/2022

Information about the authors of translated books is placed by both traditional publishing houses and new companies. Some publications recommend websites and social media (Instagram, Facebook) as sources of further information about the author, which gives them a convergent character. On the basis of the book studies and analysis of information found in contemporary translations of works addressed to children and school youth (9-13 years old), the methods of providing information about the origin and achievements of foreign authors in books as decided upon by publishers (and authors themselves) have been shown: in the content of the book (introduction, ending, prologue, afterword) or in “external” places – on flaps, dust jackets and covers (in blurbs). The following aspects are characterised: the type of information (official, private), scope (about the author and/or the work, the writer’s output, previous works and future plans) as well as method and purpose of the message (informative, persuasive, humorous, marketing).

Zwiększenie czytelności wypowiedzi w polskim języku migowym przez animowaną wirtualną postać. Badania użytkowników z wykorzystaniem nowych technologii

Author(s): Anna IRASIAK,Elżbieta Sroka,Adam Piasecki / Language(s): Polish Issue: 19/2021

Research in construction of sign language avatars, which are computer-generated representations of linguistic phenomena, can be used to arrive at solutions facilitating communication with hearing-impaired persons. The clarity of content of the sign communication is particularly important for its recipient. As part of its project “How to Increase the Comprehensibility of Utterances in the Polish Sign Language through Animated Virtual Assistant”, the research network Łukasiewicz – Instytut Technik Innowacyjnych EMAG from Katowice (Ł-EMAG)23 has undertaken research with a view to evaluating the efficacy of the Polish Sign Language (PJM) through a virtual assistant; the other objective is to single out those traits which most contribute to satisfactory reception and comprehension of communication. The present article reports on the comparative studies conducted so far, which include surveys and in-depth interviews with hearing-impaired users of sign language by means of dedicated research tools. The first (introductory) stage consisted in gathering users’ opinions on the comprehensibility of the sign language of the first created avatar, including features which either facilitate of hinder communication as well as the level of experience of hearing-impaired persons in the use of on-line translators. In the second stage, a model of a 3D virtual assistant was developed, which took into consideration all the above-mentioned features facilitating or hindering communication. This part of the research yielded data concerning the comprehensibility of the virtual avatar as well as users’ comparison of the two avatars.

„Exploratory search” – kłopoty architekta informacji z terminologią

„Exploratory search” – kłopoty architekta informacji z terminologią

Author(s): Katarzyna Materska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 18/2020

Information environments (co-) designed by information architects should significantly support the users in obtaining information. Using English-language literature as source of examples, the author characterizes user activity type referred to as exploratory search, especially the concept of information foraging, which she suggests calling “traversing information environments”. This article aims at clarifying and organizing Polish terminology related to exploratory practices and user experiences. The analysis of Polish sources on information science of the 21st century evidences the terminological disorder. The author believes that order, precision and terminological consistency are especially needed in the dynamically developing area of information architecture in Poland, especially if treated as an academic discipline. The findings contribute to the theory and methodology of the Polish school of information architecture. The author believes that a constructive discussion of information professionals might be initiated by the proposals presented in this article.

National heritage protection programs

National heritage protection programs

Author(s): Agnieszka Bangrowska / Language(s): English Issue: 18/2020

The conservation and preservation of library collections are conducive to the preservation of world cultural heritage. The goal is to develop a program or project that protects library and archival collections according to their condition, character, and age. It should be noted that the scope of the work will be different for different types of documents, such as books, graphics, archival collections, or manuscript codes with colorful illuminations. Other efforts must be made in cases of urgent intervention for large numbers of sources. Thanks to adequate funding, comprehensive protection and preservation of selected library collections are aspects of the cultural heritage protection program in Poland. Procurement funds will equip conservation workshops with suitable tools, materials, and reagents to carry out conservation work. They will also provide training activities for the personnel who specialize in the day-to-day protection and conservation of collections. There is also the possibility of establishing international cooperation, which will be described further in this text.

Postrzeganie architektury informacji przez studentów wybranych szkół wyższych w Polsce w świetle badań ankietowychcard sorting, website, information architecture, user experience, OptimalSort, Information Portal of the Nicolaus Copernicus University

Author(s): Anita Has-Tokarz,Renata Malesa / Language(s): Polish Issue: 18/2020

This article presents research results on the social (here: students’) recognition of information architecture as an educational path, awareness of the role and importance of information architecture (Eng. IA, information architecture) in a world dominated by technology. It also reviews the knowledge of the specifics of this subject matter as well as the perspectives, skills and job opportunities stemming from academic training in this discipline. The research paradigm is the interpretation of “collective consciousness” proposed by Emile Durkheim (The Division of Labour in Society, 1990), who sees it as a collection of widely distributed and accepted views, ideas and beliefs that are becoming patterns or blueprints for thinking in a particular society. Collective consciousness is a process by nature, it crystallizes over time as a result of individual experiences and environmental influences. This article presents the results of a survey conducted among students of two faculties of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin and (for contrast) students at the Military University of Technology in Warsaw. The research includes comparative analysis on identifying possible differences in perceiving IA by students of this course, those studying other areas of humanities and social sciences, such as media production, German studies, Portuguese studies, Italian studies, as well as students of hard sciences, i.e. computer science.

Author(s): Iwona Pietrzkiewicz,Michał Rogoż / Language(s): English Issue: 17/2019

Preparing graduate information architects whose professional competences are obviously related to information processing - especially in a digital environment - requires equipping them with relevant knowledge of widely understood intellectual property rights protection. A question needs to be asked whether information architecture student can acquire sufficient competence during the basic training in the protection of intellectual property, obligatory for all first degree university courses in Poland, or is it necessary/advisable to introduce an additional specialist subject taking into account of the specific nature of the profession and the dynamic development of new technologies which constantly generates new challenges in this area.

Normativni podaci u COBISS sistemu i zašto će biti sve važniji

Author(s): Andreja Krajnc Vobovnik / Language(s): English,Serbian Issue: 28/2023

With the introduction of the IFLA Library Reference Model (IFLA LRM), authority control is becoming increasingly important, as authority data will play a key role in the network of linked data. Therefore, the preparation of authority data will help to facilitate the implementation of IFLA LRM and will be useful in the transition to RDA (Resource Description and Access). The paper presents an overview of authority data in the COBISS system, with a focus on the Slovenian COBISS.SI system, and suggests possibilities for the future development of authority records. It presents the status of the authority databases CONOR.SI and SGC, the submission of authority records to the VIAF service, and the acquisition and use of identifiers for personal and corporate body names. It also outlines IZUM’s plans for the transition to a new catalogue that will be in line with the IFLA LRM conceptual model. The basis for the development of the new COBISS catalogue is the selection of as large a set of entities as possible to be realised in authority records and the establishment of relationships between them.

Uloga metapodataka u prezentaciji turbeta u digitalnom okruženju

Uloga metapodataka u prezentaciji turbeta u digitalnom okruženju

Author(s): Lejla Hajdarpašić,Džejla Khattab,Senada Dizdar / Language(s): Bosnian,English Issue: 28/2023

Modern technologies enable the presentation of diverse movable and immovable cultural heritage objects in a digital environment in new and creative ways, which at the international level has resulted in the development of numerous and diverse digital collections created by information and other institutions. Since the visibility of such collections in the virtual environment depends on the wealth of metadata assigned to the sources in the collections, as expected, these initiatives were accompanied by development in the metadata domain. In this regard, and considering that the role of metadata in the presentation of turbe as very specific objects of the immovable cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the online environment has not been examined so far, the goal of this research is to identify which metadata standards or their combinations can be used for the description of turbe in Omeka Classic environment, and consequently to create a collection of the selected corpus of turbe, available in open access, whereby the corpus of research refers to turbe (türbe/tomb) that are named as national monuments in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The results of the research indicate that within the workspace of the Omeka Classic web publishing platform by using the predefined Dublin Core and VRA Core metadata fields in combination, the basic needs of corpus description can be met in a clear, uniform, and informative way, but in this regard, indications of the future development of the collection in the context of its semantic enrichment are also provided.üüü

Theoretical framework media and political economy of communication

Theoretical framework media and political economy of communication

Author(s): José Antonio Villalobos-López / Language(s): English Issue: 31/2022

This article is presented with a deductive method orientation, with a paradigm of hermeneutic order, based on experience, carried out under an exclusively qualitative approach, which will serve as a scaffold for a next study of digital media. Communications are a means or mechanism of organization for coexistence in society. The political economy of communication has its origin in the theories or critical approaches of Frankfurt and cultural studies, which has analyzed the role of the owners or concessionaires of large radio and television corporations, highlighting the bias they have given to the dissemination of information and culture, orienting it towards the defense of their ideology or their commercial interests, thus leading to the alienation and training of large masses of audience. In these modern times, the massification of the media is the result of technological convergences, where three disciplines or spaces are at work: information technology, telecommunications and the Internet, which is the axis or center of the new communications ecosystem. Social networks allow feedback between sender and receiver of news, transforming the unidirectional communication process provided by conventional media.

The purpose of the article is to conduct a comparative analysis of institutional repositories of higher education institutions of Ukraine for training specialists in the field of information, library, and archival studies as a component of the quality of academic communication in the modern educational space. The research methodology is based on the application of the theory of scientific communication, general scientific and special methods of cognition, including analysis, synthesis, monitoring, and comparison. The scientific novelty of the study is to expand the understanding of the current situation of demand among users of scientific and educational resources of institutional repositories of higher education institutions for the training of specialists in the field of information, library, and archival studies. Conclusions. The article analyses the institutional repositories of ten higher education institutions for training of specialists in the field of information, library, and archival studies using Webometrics, QS World University Rankings, and SimilarWeb. Despite the high-ranking positions of the leading higher education institutions in Webometrics and QS World University Rankings, user access to institutional repositories remains at an insufficient level. A study based on web analytics by SimilarWeb has identified four leading HEIs by the number of visits to their repositories by users: Western Ukrainian National University (WUNU), Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (TSNU), National Aviation University (NAU), and Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University (VNU). The level of use of the main communication channels (direct access, regular (standard) search, referrals, e-mail, social networks) for the use of repositories by each higher education institution is also determined, and recommendations are given on the promotion of scientific and educational resources of repositories and the use of PR and advertising technologies by librarians and all participants of scientific communication of higher education institutions to improve its quality in the modern educational space.
