”The present book is a light introduction into the world of computer programming. It turns out that we do not have to be computer geniuses to learn to code. Most people have a limited knowledge about the construction and functioning of a car or a motorbike, but still it does not prevent them from sitting behind the wheel and driving. We do not have to know the basic construction and functioning of computers in order to be able to make use of them. Coding is a similar case. Today we have many different programming languages to choose from. We can start learning to use any of them, but in the case of some languages this process is going to be easier, while in the case of others – more difficult. A Chinese proverb says ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’, and this is why we are going to focus on a programming language which is particularly orientated towards creating pictures. The language in question is Processing. It is a dialect of Java, the most popular programming language (October 2016) according to TIOBE1 ranking. Processing has been designed especially for artists, thanks to which it is very easy to learn. The best way of learning to code is writing programmes as often as possible. The mere reading of the book will not make you proficient as far as coding is concerned. Thus, while reading, you are advised to re-write the exemplary programmes, modify them and use as an encouragement to write your own. If you follow this advice, after finishing the book you will surely know a lot about the process of coding. You may not be a coding guru, but still you will learn the basic skills of computer programming and you will possess the knowledge enabling you to follow different paths. Maybe in future you will even become a professional programmer, which we wish for you. The book has been aimed at those who do not have any previous experience with coding, therefore many concepts are discusses in great detail. For the readers who do have some programming background it may seem to be boring, but they also can find something valuable in this book: they will have a chance to learn the basics of the Processing language. Readers are not required to be familiar with any advanced tools. The only requirements are the elementary knowledge of mathematics and the willingness to learn to code. Despite the fact that in the book the coding is taught by means of Processing language, the acquired knowledge will facilitate to move on to learn other programming languages, such as C, C++, C# or Java”. This is an educational publication, intended to cover the university demands in the fields of academic disciplines, such as book studies and reading, of book-knowledge and book-publishing industry, which are taught courses at the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, Sofia University, Bulgaria. It is a collection of creative concepts and designs produced by the students, studying Book publishing and Creative Communication, MA Program, FJMC, Sofia University. The concise review represents 6 stages of project activities occurred in a 6-year time period (2007-2013); it consists of totally 77 educational projects of 76 university students; one of them participated with 2 original projects consequently in two Post-Gutenberg Book Annual Student Competitions. Methodology and findings of the project lab-experiment concerning both concepts - My Book-Dream and Alternative Book Bodies, have been bases on the notion that in the field of book studies, similar to each other scholarly field, a futuristic creative thinking should be developed. Methodology, due to the educational tasks’ creative nature, is recommending design activities to be organized around the imagination techniques. The usage of this approach requires an interactive relationship between the book knowledge and visual anthropology, visual sociology and architecture anthropology and emphasizes on the very strong influence of artificial lifestyle environment (e.g. hybrid products such as book-alley, book-sleeping room, book-building, book-furniture, etc.) on human psyche and behaviour. Students interpret their projects in the frame of the norms and from the standing point of the standards they learned about during the taught course named The Book as a Media; it occurs a kind of visualization of the cohesion between the reader and the book (an intimate act of reading) or a subjective image of the ideal reading (the environment and the channel needed for the text perception). Creative interpretation of the book as an object stimulates the process of producing its objective associations and metaphors as book-aphorisms. The contribution of this publication refers to the application of specific methods for visual and spatial thinking while developing futuristic creative art abilities and skills in the respective field. Each separate project may become a reason numerous discussions to be held out, for ex. debate concerning such questions as what would be the image of the future book and how will it function tomorrow?; what would be the new opportunities to carry on, pass on, interpret and create information?; what would be the new content management forms?; what is the chance for the visual book based on the universal international language – the visual one, to survive, having in mind the background of the many voices and many languages of the multiple cultures (in synchrony with the popular cases concerning book-polylingua and wordless or ‘mute’ books)?; what is the chance of the space-figurative book as a counterpoint of the present flat two-dimensional carrier – the print sheet of paper or the display (as a reflection of the spherical book or book-globe, the dream of the renown film experimentator Sergey Eisenstein), etc. Each producer and publisher would be able to use this publication in order to develop creative projects and innovative ideas of his/her own. The publication may provoke initiation of new research directions and new ways to rethink this key technology of knowledge verbalization and memorization – the phenomenon called THE BOOK.

In my report I’ll try to prove that a proper activity of a school librarian may cause that ICIM project becomes something more than the School Internet Cafe. It will also appear that the ICIM project may involve some aspect of specific history of our town, as well as its industrial history and relationship with school and… extreme sports (!). It may have unexpected results when working with pupils with special needs. The author of the project will also invite to the journey back in time, up to the 18th century. Consequently, it will also turn out that a properly working ICIM project may become a perfect supplement to the additional classes and interdisciplinary laboratory in the full sense of this word. All of the students taking part in this project will be not only fully involved in fulfilling their tasks, but also become consistent element responsible for the final results.

The text is about Children’s Literature Centre – unique on a national scale library department, which exists in Public Municipal Library Galeria Książki of Oświęcim. CLC is educational, searching, documentation and informative section of library and works under the patronage of Polish Section of IBBY and in consultation with group of librarians and researchers from whole Poland. Paper presents benefits which come from connections between academic research and everyday library practice. Moreover, text includes information about possible ways how to cooperate with CLC. Beyond short presentation of CLC collections, paper focuses on this department’s actions (CLC prepares educational projects, drafts of library lessons, trainings for librarians and teachers, answers on students queries and coordinates organisation of Kornel Makuszyński Nationwide Literary Award and International Children’s Book Day). Furthermore, it contains reflections about building bridges between scientific research and librarians, teachers and parents practice. Library has an important role in this topic and this paper shows how make those connections. It also presents a few innovative actions and good practices around children’s book which library in Oświęcim does, inspired by newest scientific research.

Shaping and developing reading competencies are among the most important tasks of teachers and educators who work with deaf students. School libraries play a special role in this regard. The intention of the author is to show the level of reading competencies of deaf primary-school and middle-school pupils, and to present measures undertaken by teachers-librarians in order to develop them. Therefore, in March 2014, a questionnaire survey was conducted in libraries at learning centres for deaf children in Poland. Teachers-librarians spoke about deaf students’ skills in the use of libraries, the search and selection of appropriate books, the use of the printed word, remembering content and the practical use of books. In addition, the study included issues related to a wider educational work of a school library, aimed to support the development of reading competencies of students. Based on the research material, conclusions have been drawn regarding the level of deaf students’ reading competencies and measures that should be taken by teachers-librarians in shaping and developing the above-mentioned skills in the specific group of readers, i.e.children with hearing loss.

The subject of interest is the contemporary situation of reading habits and changes taking place in this area in France among young people (teenagers) upon completion of education at the ecole primaire level, i.e. from about 11 years old. The main sources include publications containing statements and reports on readership studies conducted, among others materials on the subject printed in the “Bulletin des Bibliotheques de France” in 2000. The profile takes into account such aspects as the status and dynamics of reading habits in recent years, reading-related interests and the role of reading in the life of teenagers. A general view depicts a community reading books and magazines, and participating in a variety of other cultural practices, in accordance with the spirit of the times.

Još od osnutka, 1948. g. pod okriljem UNESCO-a, Međunarodno arhivsko vijeće (MAV, International Council on Archives - ICA) pruža značajnu tehničku i stručnu podršku arhivima i arhivskim institucijama diljem svijeta. Putem studija, savjetovanja, misija stručnjaka, elaborata, normi i standarda, kao i razmjenom informacija, MAV ima bitnu ulogu u podizanju svijesti vlada, civilnog društva i međunarodne zajednice o važnosti arhivskog gradiva. Ovaj je priručnik praktični vodič kojim se želi privući pažnju predstavnika, osoblja i volontera nevladinih organizacija (NVO) na vrijednost njihovih dokumenata i zapisa, te dati savjete o njihovu upravljanju i čuvanju. Neki od zapisa uistinu imaju krucijalnu važnost kako za povijest samih organizacija tako i za društva na koje se odnose. Prednosti dobrog uredskog poslovanja privatnih ili javnih institucija su dobro poznate: uštede vremena i prostora, pravna i administrativna memorija, utemeljno shvaćanje prošlih odluka i transparentnost informacija. Čuvanje zapisa na srednji i dugi rok u elektroničkom je okruženju postalo kompleksnije; a intervencije uredskih djelatnika moraju početi u ranoj fazi životnog ciklusa dokumenta kako bi se osiguralo njihovo čuvanje. Stoga, da bi zadovoljio takve potrebe, vodič daje jednostavne i djelotvorne savjete. U zemljama u kojima NVO-i obavljaju aktivnosti kojima se država ne bavi, arhivsko gradivo NVO-a postaje neophodno za rekonstruiranje povijesti pojedinaca, institucija i populacije. U bivšim represivnim zemljama, gdje su javni arhivi nestali ili „očišćeni” , gradivo NVO-a je među rijetkim izvorima informacija koje žrtvama omogućuju bolje razumijevanje mehanizama represije i traženje prava na istinu i pomirenje. Vodič je realizacija preporuka ravnatelja državnih arhiva i predsjednika stručnih arhivskih udruga, koji su se 2001. g. okupili u Reykjaviku na XXXV. CITRA-i (International Conference of the Round Table on Archives), održanoj na temu sakupljanja i odabiranja gradiva suvremenog društva. U svjetlu rastuće uloge koju civilno društvo ima na međunarodnoj razini, i u svjetlu opasnosti za sigurno čuvanje zapisa NVO-a, briga i inicijativa MAV-a u potpunosti su opravdane i vrijedne hvale. Iza jedne naoko skromne ambicije krije se istinska odlučnost služenja građanima svijeta, radeći za veću transparentnost, dobru upravu i bolje očuvanje memorije ljudske vrste. Posebno mi je zadovoljstvo pozdraviti ovaj vodič kao izraz kontinuiranih napora MAV-a da sačuva pamćenje svijeta u svim njegovim neizmjernim raznolikostima.

Středověký šperk: Archeologické nálezy z jižní Moravy

The present work represents the first comprehensive survey of medieval jewellery located in museum depositories, galleries and archaeological institutions of South Moravia. Into the collection, the author has included items from 79 localities: 45 urban towns, 11 castles and 23 other locations (current and former villages and cultural sites). The selection has been limited to the High Middle Ages, i.e. mainly to the 13th–15th centuries, possibly extending into older and younger periods. The core of the work is comprised of a catalogue of objects with drawings or photographic documentation accompanied by detailed descriptions. The catalogue of finds is fully available in electronic form in the Digital Library of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, Brno. In the analytical part of the thesis, the objects are evaluated in terms of typology and morphology, including comparisons with finds from other locations. This allows the jewellery to be set in contemporaneous context in terms of its functional, aesthetic and symbolic significance.

The 2nd Turkey Social Sciences Symposium was held online on 27-31 August 2022 in cooperation with Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University and Oku Okut Association. The Symposium received 264 paper submissions. After the pre-review, these papers were reviewed by two reviewers from the related field of science. As a result of the peer review, 92 of the applications were accepted. The Symposium lasted five days, and scholars attended the Symposium from 50 different universities and institutions.The opening session of the Symposium focused on “The Present and Future of Social Sciences”. Answers were sought to the questions of what the disciplines of philosophy,sociology, history, law, and theology have said to the present and what they can say to the future by scholars in these fields. Presentations about more effective academic research and writing in the social sciences took place in the second session. After the opening sessions held a total 31 sessions. In these sessions, presentations were made in the fields of philosophy, sociology, theology, Turkish language, Arabic language, art history, music, political science, and international relations.The 2nd Turkish Symposium of Social Sciences: The Book of Abstracts contains Turkish and English abstracts of the papers presented at this Symposium. The full texts of some of the presented papers were published in the September 2022 issue as an article in the Journal of Tetkik: Turkish-Islamic Culture. Video recordings of the entire Symposium were made available on the symposium website.The branches of science within the scope of social sciences are disciplines that focus on understanding and gain more importance today, where the value of "data" is increasing daily. In these branches of science, data evaluation becomes a skill overtime with the transfer of experience. In this context, it is crucial to meet students who continue their postgraduate education with experts in a scientific event to provide an opportunity to transfer knowledge. The Social Sciences Symposium of Turkey was organized to bring together professionals and postgraduate students, enabling the transfer of experience, strengthening interdisciplinary communication and studies,and contributing to academic production, and the desired results were achieved.
