Examination of Listening Comprehension Strategies used by Iranian Upper-intermediate and Intermediate EFL Learners

The main purpose of this study was to find out the listening strategies used byupper-intermediate and intermediate Iranian FFL learners and to compare the listening strategies of both groups of participants in this study. A total number of 30 Persian EFL learners were administered a listening comprehension test and a listening strategy use questionnaire. The test consisted of two class lectures, each of them followed by comprehension questions comprised of multiple choice and essay questions. After the test, participants were also asked to complete a questionnaire that included 20 items asking about the use of cognitive, metacognitive, andsocio-affective strategies. The listening test and listening strategy use questionnaire data was run through multiple statistical tests, including factor analysis, multiple regression, and t-tests, to identify the strategies the research participants had used and explain the relationship between listening strategy use and listening comprehension. The results indicated that both upper-intermediate and intermediate listeners used metacognitive, cognitive, and socio-affective strategies. However, there was some variation in terms of the use of cognitive and metacognitive socio-affective strategies. As far as cognitive strategies were concerned, the results revealed that the upper-intermediate listeners employed more top-down strategies than the intermediate listeners, whereas there were no significant differences in the use of metacognitive strategies. The results also indicated that cognitive strategies are the most powerful predictor of listening comprehension, followed by socio-affective strategies, whereas metacognitive strategies were the predictor that accounted the least for listening comprehension

The paper is an elaboration of a high school student under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Stanislav Stefanov. It was awarded first prize in the National round of the International Competition “Methodology and information technologies in Education in February, 2018. Some basic results from the geometry of the quadrilateral are systemized and presented in connection with two new transformations in the plane of a quadrilateral that have important applications in the geometry of the quadrilateral. The main of the applications are generalizations of the theorems of Miquel, Gauss and Gauss-Bedenmiller for the complete quadrilateral and the accompanying assertions. The transformations in question serve also in proving geometric relations among the newly found notable points in the plane of a quadrilateral and in deducing properties of some of them and properties of others that are images of the first ones after being transformed. None the less, that they have heterogeneous definitions, the two transformations are connected narrowly. One of them turns to be a diffusion of the other from a determined set of points in the plane of a given quadrilateral to the whole plane.

The most significant publishers were diocesan curias in Katowice, Kielce, Olsztyn, monastic and secular publishing houses. The presented material was examined on the basis of the copies preserved in the National Library. The collection was divided into the following sub-sections: 1. Catechisms preparing to the first confession and communion, 2. General/shortened catechisms, 3. Catechisms for the youth.

The report examines a problem that is poorly understood and least used in the teaching of Bulgarian language and literature. The method of cognitive maps is introduced by Tony Byuzan and used in other countries. In our country it is not so widely practiced. Its use in the teaching of literature in upper allows students to learn more easily curricula, to develop their creative skills to provide primary and secondary associations, to have fun. Mind maps help the development of learning skills and a good helper and activator of memory. They develop visual memory and activate the both cerebral hemispheres. They present information using hierarchical associations between words, phrases, colors, space. They are suitable for learning verse and prose text, in the presentation of a literary movement, in the comparative analysis, in the interpretation of certain artistic idea. They complement and illustrate the passport of the literary work. Mind maps facilitate both teaching and learning, help for the synthesis of large amounts of information on a theme or an idea. Group cards could be used as well – they unite in themselves associations of many players, generate new ideas, make literature interesting course, allow for creativity. They create a positive attitude towards learning and intellectual labor, presented an unusual approach to the literary text. In this report the application model of mind maps was made by students in class. Associative approach in teaching literature is sufficiently reliable and necessary for the development of associative thinking young people.
