Generation of Educational 3D Maze Games for Carpet Handicraft in Bulgaria

Serious video games applied for learning purposes play a significant and important role for the modern technology enhanced education. The paper presents an educational 3D maze video game dedicated to the development of carpet fabrication in Bulgaria since 17th century until modern days. The game was automatically generated by means of declarative description of the maze processed by an open software tool named Maze Builder and built on top of Unity game platform and specially designed for automatic generation and easy modification of maze video games. There are explained the maze game design process, the educational tasks embedded into the maze, and a practical experiment conducted with the generated game. The initial results obtained from these experiments are very positive and encouraging with regard of playability of such educational mazes and, as well, concerning their easy and straightforward generation by educators, who are not IT professionals.

Scopus Database as a Source of Representing Bulgarian Science to the International Academic Community: The Present and Future Prospects

The assessment of research performance using international abstract and citation databases, or so-called global citation indexes, is currently the key criterion against which the advance of science is measured practically in all countries. In 2004 the publishing company Elsevier launched a new database – Scopus, which became a major competitor with the reputable resource Web of Science operating since 1964. Developing very successfully, Scopus has become the leading and largest abstract and citation database in the world. The indicators and data provided by Scopus are used in international university rankings and, in general, in the performance assessment of researchers, scientific schools, organizations and countries all over the world. The sources of such information are publications coming from over 150 countries, both from leading international journals and publishing houses, as well as from regional titles indexed in international data-bases. This paper sets out to characterize the Scopus database as a whole, along with its categories and inclusion criteria. Bulgarian Scopus publications and titles are analyzed, with the information about 48 Bulgarian journals reviewed for inclusion and included in Scopus given. The number of Bulgarian journals included in Scopus is expected to rise, provided that international publication standards and Scopus requirements are met.

“Client services management” functions for meeting the client enquires – questions, help, activation and deactivation of services, and general questions about the company portfolio services. The aim is implementation and execution of processes which allow the Call center to serve the client on all subjects by a single contact person. The more complex questions are being serviced by a qualified person from a specialized unit. The number of complaints is being reduced by using tailored approach to each case. It is essential to pay a special attention for retaining customers, to use effectively outbound campaigns for meeting certain business needs, to constantly develop the personnel through different programs and trainings and to support of a high level of QoS.

The article examines the experience of the authors in using specialized educational software in class. Such approach turns students into active participants in the learning process and the learning itself - more enjoyable. The text mentions the advantages of such a method. The authors share their experience in adapting the training to the individual abilities of students, in displaying the curricula, motivating students, introducing a competitive element in the lesson, getting feedback on time, turning the classroom into an interactive environment.An improved quality of education of students expressed in durability of knowledge, interest in acquiring it and in individual studying is achieved as a result.

Занимателните задачи на Поасон и методът на Перелман за тяхното решаване и изследване

The subject of the paper is the Perelman’s geometric method for solving and empiric study of a popular class of amusing problems called Poisson’s problems. The main tool of investigation is a rhomboid net of a skew co-ordinate system. The problem situation is modeled geometrically and the solution of the problem is sought by the construction of “Pouring ray” trajectory in the net. The method is described in details by simple means of analytic geometry and is presented through 8 problems for pouring. Some comments and suggestions are made in order to optimize the solutions. Empirically, it is reached a probable hypothesis on the base of the solutions of specific problems in cases of non-solvability of the general problem accounting for its parameters. The work is constructed on one of the topics of the course on Amusing Mathematics targeted on students – futur teachers. It could be applied successfully in teaching Mathematics in “school” conditions during extra-curricular classes.

The paper presents a lecture in Socratic style given by the author during the Chernorizec Hrabar Math Master Class, 2017. The genuine Problem 1 from the competition paper of the 21stJunior Balkan Math Olympiad has been decomposed in series of auxiliary problems with respect to a particular target group. Two indicators for progress have been observed during the experiment, both related to the inquiry-based teaching. The conclusions drawn could be potentially helpful in training advanced students in mathematics via the inquiry-based method.

In discrete geometry, the Erdös’ distinct distances problem states that between n distinct points in a plane there are at least distinct distances. The problem was posed by Paul Erdös in 1946. In 2010, Larry Guth and Net Hawk Katz claimed to have a solution. The solution was published in 2015 in the Annals of Mathematics. This article aims at popularizing this problem to young students in mathematics, therefore no big background in mathematics is needed to understand it. It is open to every reader and shall be improved with any remarks or questions.

The author presents an up-to-date look at scientometrics - science which gives one of the right markers in studying the history of science for pedigree; the priority functions of the magazine as primary scientific communication are revealed - following the example of the Genealogy journal. The methodology of the study on the dynamics of the publications for the period from 1990 to 2015 is based on the historiographic and scientometric approach. Their text-critical description provides information on the state of the scientific knowledge, but its dynamics, in a synchronic and diachronic aspect, is illustrated de visu through diagrams, tables and other forms of representation of the publications.

Computer Discovered Mathematics: Constructions of Malfatti Squares

Равнолицеви триъгълници, определени от две преобразувания в равнината на триъгълник

The paper is an elaboration by high school students under the scientific advices of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veselin Nenkov. The new results in it were estimated highly during its presentation at the International competition “Methodology and Information Technologies in Education” in 2018 and the work was awarded first prize. It is dedicated to a well-known problem for triangle and quadrilateral areas determined by triangle secants. A general formula is found for the area of one of the triangles. The areas of triangles are determined when obtained by isotomic and isogonal transformations in the plane of a given triangle. What is investigated is the question for equal areas of the obtained triangles and the generating ones.
