16. Yüzyıl Osmanlısında Kur’ân Okuma Karşılığı Ücret Alma Tartışmaları: Birgivî Zeyrekzâde Örneği

Author(s): Abdullah Kavalcıoğlu / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 54/2020

One type of the pious foundations which subsisted from the fifteenth century until the collapse of the empire in the Ottoman Empire, which is described as a civilisation of foundation, is the money foundations. Among these money foundations, there are foundations established for the recitation of Qur’an. These foundations, like the others, had subsisted till the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, but discussions about them continued. One of the works which discusses the recitation of Qur'ān for a fee is the epistle named as “İnkāzü’l-hâlikîn” written by Birgivī Mehmed Efendī (d. 1573). He alleges in this epistle, which is well known among the modern researchers and about which there are some studies, that the recitation of Qur’an for a fee is not licit. This epistle is not only discussed today, but at the time it was written it had been discussed among the scholars. For example, Zeyrekzāda Emrullah al-Husaynī had written a refutation titled as “Risala fi cavazi akhzi’l-ucrati li-qıraati’l-Qur’an” against the epistle of Birgivi. Also, this is very rare work that discussed widely with the proofs that the recitation of Qur'ān is licit. In this article, the views of two authors will be treated comparatively only in terms of common points. The aim of this study is to discuss the juridical issue which has a social aspect from the view of two authors that have different approaches.

1949-1982 Yılları Arasında Din Psikolojisi Alanında Yazılan Eserlerin Doküman Analizi Nitel Bir Değerlendirme

Author(s): Beyazıt Yaşar Seyhan / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 13/2021

It has been tried to do document analysis together with content analysis about some terms in the works written between 1949 and 1982, which is assumed to be the first period of the psychology of religion. The terms researched are “şuur (consciousness)” and its derivatives in Ottoman, and “consciousness”, “subconscious”, “unconscious” terms which is the modern usage of the term “şuur” and “adolescent, puberty” terms of Western origin which correspond to the meanings of “ergen ve argenlik”. The frequency of the use of these terms in the books was determined and it was examined whether there was a change in time, and the scientific language in using the terms of the psychology of religion was tried to be understood in line with the qualitative method. As a result, the psychology of religion changes some of these terms over time, while others still use them. By examining whether the purposes and bibliographies of the early psychology books were similar or different, it was understood that these terms used in the books of the early psychology of religion kept pace with the language and psychology science language of that period and their changes over time. In addition, it is understood that the works written by theology-based religious psychologists do not only serve the science of psychology of religion, but also they have an individual, educational, political and social goals.

1980-2017 Arası Telif ve Tercüme Matbu Türkçe Tefsirler Bibliyografyası

1980-2017 Arası Telif ve Tercüme Matbu Türkçe Tefsirler Bibliyografyası

Author(s): Hikmet Koçyiğit / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 2/2017

Bibliography studies are studies that require constant updating. In Turkey, between 1980 and 2017, the acceleration of migration from the village to the city, the bringing of compulsory education, opening of many formal and private universities have caused enormous mobility of the scientific field and numerous researches on the field of tafsir as it is in every area. This situation has increased the number of copyright and translation works, so it has become necessary to identify these works. Here in this article, as a current contribution to the bibliography of tafsir, a list of the works of copyright and translation which was prepared and printed in Turkish between 1980-2017 is made. However, as a difficulty of bibliography studies, it is necessary to state that some of the works may have escaped the attention anyway.

A „mintha” színházi valósága

Author(s): Mónika Rancz / Language(s): Hungarian / Issue: 4/2020

In my thesis I will be making the theatrical “as if” a question of cognition, I investigate how stage work opens up to our perception. I define this particular reality’s inner workings as the essence of the work, play-opportunity, theatric experience. At the end of my research the “as-if” shows up as reality whose quest is to step in from behind the scenes upholding its own truth.

A beszéd és a beszélgetés hermeneutikai problémája.

A beszéd és a beszélgetés hermeneutikai problémája.

Author(s): Irma Bogya / Language(s): Hungarian / Issue: 1-2/2006

Because the interpretation is basically a speaking with the text, so because the understanding and the interpretation are also done linguistically, Gadamer is seeing the language’s essence in the act of speaking. Every conversation supposes a common language, or in other terms, it creates a common language. Gadamer sees the word as defined by the being, namely that word which passes the truth in. In the “word”, as language’s basic form, goes on the truth and by that the word is the truth happening’s place. By Augustine’s belief, the original conversation or thinking is something from within, it is the language of the heart. This inner talk does not have material or amative form yet, it has only intellectual aspect, which here only means that it has not taken the amative or historical languages form yet. Platon calls the thinking the soul’s inner talking with itself. The structure of the conversation becomes obvious here. We call it conversation because it goes on like question and answer, because we ask ourselves just like we ask the others and we talk to ourselves as we say something to the others. Augustine already advert to this kind of speech. Everybody is somehow, a conversation with itself. Gadamer is saying that the conversation is on “art” in that hermeneutically meaning of word that the creation as happening is an expression.

A Discriminative Ontology for Future Selves

Author(s): Juraj Odorčák / Language(s): English / Issue: 4/2021

The article presents a critique of the commonly held assumption about the practical advantage of endurantism over perdurantism regarding the problem of future-directed self-concern of a person. The future-directed self-concern of a person crucially depends on the possibility of the right differentiation of diverging futures of distinct persons, therefore any theory of persistence that does not entail a special non-branching relation of a person to only their future self seems to be counterintuitive or unrealistic for practical purposes of personal persistence. I argue that this pragmatic rationale about future-directed self-concern is equally challenging for both theories of persistence. Moreover, I indicate, that both of these theories fall and stand on the practical feasibility of hidden ontological presuppositions about specific second-order notions of concerns of persons for their future.

A DUAL PERSPECTIVE IN LEGAL TRANSLATION

A DUAL PERSPECTIVE IN LEGAL TRANSLATION

Author(s): Radegundis STOLZE / Language(s): English / Issue: 7/2014

The article describes, on the basis of hermeneutics, the specific perspective from which a translator may approach legal texts, as translation is seen as a personalized activity. Different text types are rooted in a specific legal system and fulfil their function within a special field of law, and the cultural and legal background is evident in linguistic aspects on a textual level. Comparative law carries out research on the differences in legal concepts, whereas translation studies and practice use this knowledge as a basis for work. Legal terminology has various levels of abstraction and appears in texts along with general language words. Fields of orientation for the translator are presented here, such as legal contexts, genre, concepts and style. This should be combined with proficiency in writing according to the text function, terminology and standard formulae. The translator tries to make source cultural and legal aspects transparent for target readers, as translation is always a means of comprehension that furthers communication.

A megértés tapasztalata

A megértés tapasztalata

Author(s): Károly Veress / Language(s): Hungarian / Issue: 3-4/2006

This paper provides a comprehensive and systematic inquiry on the central problem of contemporary philosophical hermeneutics, the question of understanding. The strain of thoughts starts by the critique of the methodological concept of understanding, as it was worked out in romantic hermeneutics and in social sciences. This is proceeded by a touch upon the approach of fundamental ontology, the Heideggerian concept of existential understanding. The study continues with a detailed exposition of the hermeneutical understanding-concept. This incorporates the scaling of hermeneutical experience as the nexus of negativity, openness, finitude and historicity, the connections of the hermeneutical situation and horizon, the development of the anticipatory- and question-structure of this experience. The study concludes with the presentation of understanding as a process of the tradition of questioning.

A Prelude to Material Hermeneutics (2021)

Author(s): Don Ihde / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2020

This paper, originally given in Groningen, the Netherlands, proposed a ‘material hermeneutics’, or, metaphorically, an interpretation which “lets things speak” via new scientific imaging technologies. Such a material hermeneutics would add to, perhaps often displace the usual linguistictextual hermeneutics so refined by Paul Ricoeur. I outline several examples of such a hermeneutics here based on some 40 or more years of technoscience experience.

A Timokratés elleni beszéd érvrendszerei

A Timokratés elleni beszéd érvrendszerei

Author(s): Dániel Seres / Language(s): Hungarian / Issue: 2/2021

The current study has two objectives. On the one hand, it provides an in-depth analysis of the argumentation of the oration Against Timocrates. On the other hand, the analysis focuses on the issues of textual criticism that arose in the 19th century and have been debated ever since. Approaching the problems from a new perspective – augmenting the convincing arguments put forward by E. M. Harris with the analysis of the argumentation – the study argues that the two halves of the speech are in fact parts of a well-planned, and precisely edited whole, and the integrity of the text need not be questioned.

Absurdo idėjos transformacijos mirusio dievo pasaulyje

Absurdo idėjos transformacijos mirusio dievo pasaulyje

Author(s): Marijus Šidlauskas / Language(s): Lithuanian / Issue: 1/2017

This article discusses the origins and transformation of the idea of the absurd in the modern secularized world. Submitted for consideration is the Latin locution “credo quia absurdum,” a saying ascribed to Tertullian, and how this locution was implicated in the evolution of the idea of the absurd and reflected in literature and art. Examined in the paper are the modifications caused by existential and social changes as well as the interaction of both objective and subjective factors. Using sociohistorical arguments, the author begins to polemicize with the absurdity-suggestive deduction considering the emptiness of existence and the absence of God as somewhat absolute facts. Regarding the reflection of absurdity in Lithuanian culture, the context of religious existentialism, represented by such works as Jobo drama (The Drama of Job) by A. Maceina and Žmogus be Dievo (Man without God) by J. Girnius, was of significant importance. The abovementioned works stimulated a deeper and more authentic artistic insight into the problem. In the panorama of Lithuanian literature of the 20th century, signs of absurdity can be seen in the works of classical (V. Mykolaitis-Putinas, B. Sruoga, H. Radauskas, M. Martinaitis), avantgarde (P. Morkūnas, S. Šemetys) and postmodern (M. Ivaškevičius, S. Parulskis, G. Grajauskas) authors. The performances of A. Ambrasas, which were staged at the Institute of Art in the late sixties, stand out as a distinguishing and methodically framed phenomenon of the theatre of the absurd.

Accuracy and Reception: On Theological and Aesthetic Novelty in Two Novels by Teodora Dimova

Accuracy and Reception: On Theological and Aesthetic Novelty in Two Novels by Teodora Dimova

Author(s): Ewelina Drzewiecka / Language(s): English / Issue: 10/2021

This article raises the question of functioning of the Biblical narrative in modern literature in the context of the local/individual experience of faith and the epistemological and existential question of truth. The focus is on two novels by the Bulgarian writer Teodora Dimova (born in 1960): Марма Мариам [Marma, Mariam, 2010] and Първият рожден ден [The First Birthday, 2016]. This case is particularly interesting because the Biblical story about Jesus has not been used here in order to create a parody or blasphemy, which could be expected as far as the postmodern de-contextualisation and re-evaluation of tradition are concerned, but to offer both an aesthetically original and theologically orthodox vision of the Christian God. So how to paraphrase the Biblical story and remain orthodox? How to actualize the existential potential of the Bible and achieve novelty? The analysis is conducted in the perspective of Paul Ricoeur’s existential hermeneutics and phenomenology of memory, especially his concepts of testimony and mimesis, with regard to the question of the reception of Biblical paraphrases in (Bulgarian) modern culture.

Actualitatea filosofică a aplicării

Author(s): Károly Veress / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 1/2018

The text develops the ideas of philosophical application, taking into account various philosophical traditions, the most significant ones being the hermeneutical and the postmodern tradition. Therefore, the author’s conclusion is that the hermeneutical practice of application has the chance of bringing philosophy closer to human condition in the most adequate form for present-day conditions, as applied philosophy.

Actualization of Axiology Development: Problems, Searches, Solutions

Author(s): Lyubov’ Shabatura,Anton Yazovskikh / Language(s): English / Issue: 4/2020

The article examines the concept of “value” in the context of the general planetary process of anomie at the level of local cultures and subcultures, when the possibilities of value-normative regulation of social processes are reduced to a minimum. Under these conditions, the predictive function of axiology has become particularly relevant, and the authors raise the question of the basis for the values evolution reproduction. The search to this answer involves the application of system analysis and retrospection. The study of the main axiological concepts based on the connection between objective and subjective in this perspective allows to identify the main contours of value consciousness that coincide with the dominant concepts: biological (objective-naturalistic concept), social (dialectical-materialistic concept), individual (subjective-psychological concepts) and existential (objective-transcendental and ontological ideal realistic concepts). The material summarizes the main methodological and cognitive limitations of these concepts, which are in fact natural, since they belong to specific contours of value consciousness. At the same time, a number of provisions can be considered as general ones. As a result, the authors hypothesize the possibility to develop a synthetic concept of axiology allowing predicting the development of cultural value core as an imperative of socio-cultural processes.

Author(s): Osman Kara / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 1/2015

Some israiliyyat reports in report hermeneutics caused negative claims about prophets to be propounded. In this article, it is claimed that although none of Prophet Adem's deeds was underlined, he committed a sin by giving his son the name of the devil. This article aims to contribute to understanding the verse by drawing attention to other interpretations after analysing the reports based on this comment.

Aksjologiczna nieprzejrzystość. O silnych wartościowaniach w dziennikach pisarzy

Author(s): Robert Piłat / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 1/2021

In the present article, I discuss the issue of whether writers’ diaries reveal strong evaluations of their authors. Following Charles Taylor, I understand strong evaluation as the best axiological explanation which a given person is able to formulate and present as the reason for his or her preferences. This axiological awareness is a non-trivial internal choice made from among many possible explanations – it is a self-interpretation aimed at showing the source of the goodness instantiated by the person’s values. In the article, I look for evidence of such awareness in several well-known writers’ diaries. My conclusions are skeptical. Although the journals provide some clues in the search for strong evaluations, they are too chaotic and inconclusive. David Parker believes it more promising to look for fundamental axiological awareness in autobiographies instead. I find his approach correct; distanced reflection seems to be the only chance to reveal strong evaluations. This is despite the aporias involved in self-knowledge.
