Деинституционализация на пълнолетни лица с увреждания и стари хора в България

Деинституционализация на пълнолетни лица с увреждания и стари хора в България

Author(s): Evgeniya Bratoeva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2023

The process of deinstitutionalization of adults in the Republic of Bulgaria is laid down in the National Strategy for Long-Term Care and is legally regulated through the Law on Social Services. It is planned to reform the existing homes for adults by the beginning of 2035, and those for old people by January 1, 2025. Our country is in a situation of serious transition from an approach established over the years of providing social services for the elderly and the elderly and persons with disabilities to a new, modern and expectedly effective approach - life in the community. The reasons for carrying out the reform are the provision of better social services, which would increase the quality of life of persons from vulnerable groups.

Предоставянето на социални услуги – от институционализация към живот в общността

Author(s): Evgeniya Bratoeva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2023

Deinstitutionalization is the process of developing a range of services in the community, including prevention, with the goal of eliminating the need for institutional care. It is carried out on the basis of strategic international normative acts. The challenge in this process is to organize it to ensure that the new systems of care and support will respect the rights, dignity, needs and wishes of each person in need and guarantee their good quality of life. For the effectiveness of the process, the following are essential: the importance of the vision; the need to involve civil society; the need to include all stakeholders in the process and the crucial role of leadership in its implementation.

Evde Bakım Desteğinden Faydalanan Ailelerde Bakım Yükü

Author(s): Muhammed Çağrı Ademoğlu,İhsan Kutlu / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 35/2024

Studies in the field of disability focus on the disabled person and his/her welfare. However, it is also important to reveal and develop the capacities of the people and systems that the disabled person interacts with, based on a holistic approach in the field of disability and the approach of the individual in his/her environment. In this context, it is thought that studies to be conducted with family members who spend a large part of their time with the disabled person and provide care to the disabled person will contribute to the welfare of disabled individuals and the field of disability. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the demographic and social characteristics of family members who provide care to the disabled person and their burden of care. The study was designed with a quantitative research design. The sample of the study consists of 263 caregivers residing in a province of Turkey and benefiting from home care support. Within the scope of the study, the "Burden of Caregiving Scale" (Burden Interview) developed by Zarit, Reever and Bach-Peterson and validated for the Turkish population by Erdem and İnci in 2007 was used. As a result of the study, it was determined that most of the caregivers were women (87.1%), housewives (85.9%), married (81%), had children (84%), graduated from primary school (44%), had a large family structure (56.7%), lived with the disabled person (98.5%), and did not receive training to provide care (92.4%). It was determined that there was no significant relationship between the care burden of caregivers and their family type, living with the disabled person, receiving education for providing care, duration of caregiving, educational status, occupation, and income; there was a significant relationship between the care burden of the caregiver and age, gender, marital status, degree of closeness with the disabled person, having children, and disability group of the disabled person.

Religijność skazanych kobiet – dynamika zjawiska. Na podstawie badań przeprowadzonych wśród kobiet osadzonych w Oddziale Zewnętrznym w Lublińcu

Author(s): Barbara Grabowska,Paweł Czajka / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2024

This article presents and analyzes the findings of panel research con-ducted in April 2023 among a group of 77 women serving prisonsentences in the External Ward in Lubliniec, part of the Herby Pris-on. These results are compared with an earlier study conducted inJune 2012 in the same group of women at the then Lubliniec Prison. The aim of the study was to identify changes that occurred in the religiosity of incarcerated women, in terms of their knowledge of reli-gious doctrines, emotional connection to religion, frequency of religiouspractices, the relationship between moral life and religion, and theirsense of connection to the Church. The findings suggest that the inmates generally exhibit an average lev-el of religiosity—most frequently reporting a moderate self-assessmentof emotional connection to religion, religious practices, the link betweenmoral life and religion, and their relationship with the Church. However, there is also a noticeable shift toward more extreme positions, with anincrease in self-reported levels at the very strong, strong, weak, andvery weak ends of the spectrum. These results may indicate a possible“de-churchification of religiosity,” which is likely related to significantsocietal changes taking place in Poland.

Towarzyszenie w rodzinie osobom starszym

Towarzyszenie w rodzinie osobom starszym

Author(s): Jan Kochel / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2(34)/2023

The article presents a familiological approach to the problem of education and formation of the elderly. Various circles are interested in what constitutes positive aging, among them the family as the first and fundamental "school of social virtues" (cf. GE 3). Gerontology is the study of aging and old age, field that has been developing dynamically in recent years, proposing new educational models of (transcendent) culture pedagogy, e.g. "gerotranscendence" or "accompanying pedagogy". It is worth confronting them with biblical sources and the teaching of the Church on contemporary aging processes. An important direction of senior education and accompanying the elderly in the family is correcting the negative image of old age and presenting it as an opportunity for intellectual, socio-cultural and spiritual development. Hence the urgent need for pastoral care for the elderly in the family and parish community. The value of the chosen concept lies in a positive but also realistic approach to the involvement of seniors. After all, it is only in direct contact with elderly people in the family that all theoretical foundations of the pedagogy of the elderly give the opportunity to verify the proposed solutions on the basis of gerontological reflection.

Predicting Quiet Quitting: Machine Learning Insights into Silent Resignations in Healthcare Industry

Predicting Quiet Quitting: Machine Learning Insights into Silent Resignations in Healthcare Industry

Author(s): Rachid Alami,Agata Stachowicz-Stanusch,Sugandha Agarwal,Turki Al Masaeid / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2024

Quite quitting, an increasingly widespread issue in healthcare, poses substantial problems to patient care and labor stability. This study presents a comprehensive review of quiet quitting in healthcare, addressing their ramifications and providing a machine learning model to predict and address this challenge. The technique adopted in this research involves decision trees, random forest, KNN, logistic regression, SVM (Support Vector Machine), Ensemble models, and neural networks. Based on organizations evolving in emerging markets, key results demonstrate a range of variables leading to quiet quitting, including, in this order of importance, fear of retribution, leadership styles, working conditions, meaningful jobs, level of bureaucracy, absence of career opportunities, and lack of trust. Surprisingly, salaries do not appear to be influential in quiet quitting, while paradoxically, years of experience are inversely correlated to silent quitting. Evaluating various machine learning models based on different metrics reveals notable performance differences. While Support Vector Machine (SVM) excels in precision and F1-score, Logistic Regression demonstrates high accuracy and performs well across multiple metrics, indicating its suitability for prediction.

Současné pohledy na seniory a jejich postavení ve vybraných úrovních společnosti

Author(s): Anna Václavíková,Lucie Kamrádová / Language(s): Czech Issue: 1/2024

The aim of the article is to provide an up-to-date view of the issue of seniors, from a slightly different angle. Not to stigmatize the elderly only as a group of people who burden the social system year after year, demanding better pension security and a better pension policy, but to show the elderly in different situations – as economically active, to evaluate their age and share of the total population, what is their marital status, but also to watch as partners who have not yet resigned to their lives and are still thinking about the future. The aim is also to point out that the aging of the population is indeed a process that continues and deepens, not only in the Czech Republic, but it is necessary to emphasize that not only seniors contribute to this situation, but also, for example, the decline in the birth rate. It is necessary to take into account the state and level of our society, which, with its social and housing policy and approach to young families, does not create an ideal and perspective pro-population concept. The article will use methods of analysis, comparison and description in the text.

Influence of Digital Health Technologies among Healthcare Providers on Long-term Care Services Implementation for Elderly with Disabilities

Influence of Digital Health Technologies among Healthcare Providers on Long-term Care Services Implementation for Elderly with Disabilities

Author(s): Hu WENTING,Shadiya Mohamed Saleh Ba Qutayan,Madya Datin Nooraini Binti Othman / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2024

The traditional paradigm of home care in China is not up to the challenges posed by the country's increasing population's advancing age and lack of available resources. Digital monitoring technology solutions are thought to be advantageous for managing caregivers' workloads while also improving resident safety and care quality in assisted living facilities. To effectively provide the best possible services, teamwork is crucial in New Hampshire. Due to several issues such staffing shortages, rising resident expectations, and increased demands, NH are consequently embracing the use of Knowledge Management (KM) activities more and more to facilitate knowledge development, storage, transfer, and application. In China, the lack of an established system for caring for the elderly is having a significant impact on society as a whole, making it imperative to establish one. The researcher examined the real impacts of their quality management system and KM efforts on service quality, as well as the KM adjustments made by two China state NH that adopted the E-Qalin management of quality model, in the qualitative research. Additionally, the researchers looked at the approaches used by two China private NH that address service quality from a knowledge management standpoint but have not implemented a certified management of quality program. There were eighty nursing professionals in the sample. Teamwork is crucial in every NH included in this study, and each participant in the researcher’s poll is a member of a team. In this work, the researchers used linear regression to analyse connections between individual variables.Between the development, transmission, and application of knowledge in the state of New Hampshire regardless of the E-Qalin certificate, the researchers discovered a strong and favourable correlation. The researchers found a statistically significant and favourable association between knowledge storage and service quality, but only in New Hampshire with an E-Qalin certificate. Thus, the researcher’s study's findings highlight the necessity of learning more about quality control and knowledge management in the context of New Hampshire. The government, tech companies, and nursing homes need to further restructure the current system before more elderly people adopt sophisticated technology in home care settings. The study's findings, which centre on the transmission of tacit knowledge, substantially advance the field of knowledge management research in New Hampshire.

Kvalitet života starijih osoba u institucionalnom obliku zaštite kroz korisničku perspektivu

Author(s): Nusreta Salić / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 25/2024

The quality of life of older adults is a highly relevant topic for researchers worldwide. Studies suggest that in Bosnia and Herzegovina, this topic is under-researched. Based on this knowledge gap, this study aimed to investigate the quality of life of elderly people living in institutional care facilities. The research focused on a sample (N=58) of individuals over 65 years old residing in public institutions: the Gerontological Center Sarajevo and the Pensioner's Home Tuzla. Data was collected through a survey using a questionnaire specifically designed for this study. The research aimed to understand the quality of life of elderly people in these facilities from their perspective. Additionally, the quality of services provided within the institutions and the material living conditions were investigated. The results showed that while most participants rated their overall life quality as poor, two-thirds reported being satisfied with their life within the institutions. When evaluating factors influencing quality of life, health emerged as the most important aspect for the majority of participants. In terms of satisfaction with specific areas, most participants expressed the highest satisfaction with services provided by the institutions and support from social workers. Conversely, reported satisfaction with support from family, neighbors, and friends was the lowest. Services within the institutions were generally rated well, with organized activities and social interaction receiving particularly high marks.

Srbija: Institucionalna socijalna Zaštita i Ljudska Bezbednost

Author(s): Author Not Specified / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 041/2009

Human security, as a part of the new doctrine, does not dominate yet Serbia’s public discourse. However, it gradually takes root in the actions by institutional, corporative and individual actors. Orientation towards Euro-Atlantic integrations unavoidably leads to the change of the deeply rooted though obsolete concept of security, based on protection of a state and its territory. Though still strongly present, the so-called societal security that mostly relates to identities of social groups (national and ethnic in the first place) also heads for a downslide confronted on daily basis with the highest value – human life.

Undernourishment in North and Sub-Saharan Africa

Undernourishment in North and Sub-Saharan Africa

Author(s): Hedhli Mayssa,Leila Nasri,Fatma MRAD / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2024

Undernourishment has continued to occur globally in recent years; the spread of this phenomenon shows that inequalities, between and within countries, are increasing. After a good period of stability since 2015, the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) dropped from 8.0 percent to 9.3 percent between 2019 and 2020, then increased at a less sustained rate in 2021, rising to 9.8 percent. The causal factors to eliminate or reduce its severity differ from one country to another. The causes of hunger in the countries of North Africa are: independence from food imports of primary products, loss of marine biodiversity, climate change (projected change in warm periods) and poverty in terms of available water resources cause while malnutrition or moderate food insecurity comes down to the lack of commitments in international conventions on the environment and the respect and enforcement of the law against trafficking in natural resources. The causal variables of these two phenomena in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa are identical. The great pressure that the population exerts on their environment and the enormous consumption of resources without having them protected, also the total deterioration of the agricultural sector and the Emigration to urban areas has greatly worsened the situation of hunger and malnutrition in these countries. The projects implemented to resolve these issues must be designed according to the causes identified in each country. In general, the reorientation of public support must currently be provided to strengthen the primary sector (food and agriculture), by implementing complementary policies relating to agri-food systems, promoting healthy food environments and providing consumers with the means to adopt a healthy diet.
