Author(s): Anzhelina Yaneva,Ivaylo Prokopov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2018

In the modern high-tech and rapidly developing world, it is imperative to provide training opportunities for all adults throughout their live – especially for disadvantaged ones. Lifelong learning covers formal, non-formal and informal learning, whether for the purpose of improving one’s basic skills or acquiring new ones, acquiring new qualifications, or raising qualifications - for finding a new job, personal growth or for achieving other goals. This is the reason for creation of systems for adult learning, characterized by flexibility, high quality, high level teaching and full involvement of all relevant institutions.Non-formal and informal learning does not oppose formal, but rather, they complement and conceive, at the same time may exist in symbiosis. The training can be done in a specific context, meaning the specific objectives, with appropriate resources (funding and qualified staff) and conditions. Lifelong learning can be an integral part of the goal for turning the European economy into a competitive and dynamic economy of knowledge.

Building a lieu de memoire in Romanian Consciousness: From Sorin Ilieşiu's Documentary "Queen Marie-The Last Romantic, the First Modern Woman" to the Golden Room in Pelişor Castle

Building a lieu de memoire in Romanian Consciousness: From Sorin Ilieşiu's Documentary "Queen Marie-The Last Romantic, the First Modern Woman" to the Golden Room in Pelişor Castle

Author(s): Marina-Cristiana Rotaru / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2018

In 2018 Romania will celebrate the centenary of the Union of 1918, or the Great Union, when all Romanian provinces united into one state: Great Romania, a national ideal which Romanians strove for and achieved on the battlefield and which the Trianon Treaty of 1920 confirmed. For such a time as this hundredth anniversary, it is only natural to call to mind people who made this ideal come true. Queen Marie is rightly considered one of the artisans of the Great Union, being regarded at the time and afterwards as “the living consciousness of Romanian unity, the symbol of confidence in final victory” (Boia 2001: 208). This article aims to investigate the manner in which the queen’s memory is kept alive, and draws on two distinct attempts to portray the queen: Sorin Ilieşiu’s documentary Queen Marie – The Last Romantic, the First Modern Woman and the Golden Room in Pelişor Castle, Queen Marie’s official residence in Sinaia, the royal resort in the Carpathians. These two attempts illustrate how present-day Romanian society tries to regain parts of a common memory that was purposefully obliterated by the communist regime, and strives to rediscover and remap places of their shared memory. My analysis of Ilieşiu’s portrayal of the queen is circumscribed to the field of social semiotics, mainly to the concepts of “distance”, “angle” and “gaze” which Theo van Leeuwen uses in the visual representation of social actors. In my investigation of memory remapping, I draw on Pierre Nora’s concept “lieu de mémoire” and aim to prove that the Golden Room in Pelişor Castle, a place that reflects the personality of the chatelaine and where the queen symbolically reconnected with her origins, has turned into a realm where Romanians have access to a part of their memory which communism did its best to extirpate.

Author(s): Blagovesta Troeva_Chalakova / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2016

The paper explores the strategies applied in teaching reading skills to pupils with the dyslexia. It starts with an analysis of some of the most influential theories of reading development in languages with an alphabetic orthography and the implications they have for teaching reading skills. Next, it identifies the areas of reading acquisition that are most frequently affected in dyslexia, acknowledging the complex and inhomogeneous nature of this specific learning difficulty. Drawing on research on reading interventions, the paper discusses the focus given to structured phonics presented in a rich language environment. It suggests that comprehension developing activities alongside the development of phonological skills should not be underestimated. Additional principles guiding instruction are identified and discussed – multisensory teaching, the role of context, mixed-ability grouping, reinforcement, overlearning and metacognition. Taking into account the variations of each learner’s profile, the author concludes that accommodating the reading instruction to meet each student’s individual needs is what teachers should aim at in order to secure the most inclusive learning environment.

Senior Citizens’ Existential Needs and Education for the Meaning of Life

Author(s): Norbert G. Pikuła,Katarzyna Jagielska,Joanna Łukasik / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2018

A contemporary man is embroiled in perpetual change. Living in the world in which it is more and more difficult to find permanence and constancy frequently evokes anxiety and confusion about the world and one’s own life. It is hard to find lasting values and set long- and short-term goals, which is connected with the fact that people stop perceiving their life and activity as a value, as something with the meaning and sense. They stop thinking about what is significant and meaningful and about their direction – apart from material goods, which gain in importance. However, possessing things does not make people happy because they lack the ‚essence’ necessary for achieving the climax of humanity, the meaning of life which is focoused an individual’s activity and essential attribute of his full developement. Meaning of life is made present not only in action but also in relationships with other people, God and oneself. It is very important to consider the role of meaning of life in education to old age. Education concerning meaning of life may help people function better in their everyday life, act more effectively and meet their needs. In this paper, it was presented the research about existential needs of 200 elderly people with using some standardized questionnaire “Unmet psychosocial and spiritual needs of elderly”. The final conclusions indicate the value of the religious, spiritual and social needs of the respondents.

Успешна социализация и социална интеграция за всяко дете чрез формиране на ключови социални компетентности и (меки) умения

Author(s): Julia Doncheva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 7/2018

European education legislation defines two main objectives of education policy: equal access to education and quality education. Equal access to education means ensuring that all children and students have access to commensurate quality education. It does not mean equal care for all children and students, but differentiation of care towards their different needs. Access to quality education, not education at all, is an essential tool in the process of promoting integration and inclusion of both minorities and marginalized groups, as well as groups of children and individuals with peculiarities and non-standard development in our society.

The organisation of the adaptation process, based on classical and contemporary scientific approaches and well-established practices abroad has a key role in child development.
